Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Ridley Scott does it again. Exodus is an amazing ride.
The synopsis on the film? Have you ever heard the 2nd book of the bible? Well that is what this movie is. Except the chain of events are explained even better.
Ridley Scott does it again with this epic tail, told by a master film maker. It's not quite as good as Gladiator but very close. Christian Bale (Moses) and Joel Edgerton (Ramses) do an amazing job as friends and then obsessed enemies.
John Turturro as Seti was a bit hard to take but he convinced me later in the movie that he was Seti. I think it was hard to take at first because of the other roles I have seen him do the past. Sigourney Weaver was a waste of an amazing actress as she only had what seemed like one or two lines.
The movie has an amazing way of telling how all the plagues are a chain reaction to one another and really makes it all very believable.
Ridley did everything he could "in camera" there are really some great full size sets in this. Everything else was photo real HUGE CGI effects that looked amazing and really kept you in the story.
It's a great epic story with the best acting and effects the $140 million budget could buy. Exodus is really a "must see!"
Hit Team (2015)
A Funny Dark Comedy
I may be a bit partial on this review because I directed Hit Team. I am good friends with writer, producer, actor, Myles Mclane and all the rest of the cast and crew.
This movie was a blast to make and I think it turned out great. I do have to say Hit Team is not for everyone. It really is a dumb, dark comedy that is very violent. We really didn't realize how violent it was until after the effects and the editing were done.
If you don't want to see people shot and killed even in a comedic way. This movie might not be for you. If you like dumb and dumber and The Interview then you will love Hit Team.
It's a fun fast paced movie with a lot of laughs. It all takes place in L.A. and if you are from here you will have fun recognizing the shoot locations.
I recommend Hit Team to anyone who likes an edgy movie and wants to see upcoming stars. It's guaranteed to make you laugh and is really a fun ride!
The Monuments Men (2014)
The Monuments Men falls short
Frank Stokes (George Clooney) puts together a rag tag group to try to save precious art from from being destroyed by the Nazi's.
The Monuments Men is George Clooney's sixth try at directing. Clooney wrote, produced, directed and stared in Monuments Men. To say the least, this movie is his baby. The cast is great for any movie, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Kate Blanchett, John Goodman, just to name a few. A real powerhouse cast. Sadly to say this doesn't help the movie in any way. The acting is very dry and almost every scene is lined up for a one line punch line in the end that just falls short. I kept hoping for the action to pick up in some way but it just never does. It's a very slow movie. There are some funny moments and the locations are great. George Clooney couldn't direct himself in this movie and that is why his performance is the only one that doesn't come across as dry.
