Light of My Life (2019)
Looks like we've been down this road before
As many others have already said, this is Def a been there done that movie. Literally plagiarized the road, but not nearly as gripping or fast moving. I actually have the road in my top 10, ever. If course comparing the two main actors is not even fair.
The Big Short (2015)
There is no other way that I know of to clearly explain CDO's and MBS's (SLIGHT spoiler alert)
Both the CDO and the MBS are non-tangible, complex assets. How complex are they? Watch this movie to find out. These very "creatures" nearly took the stars and stripes off of Ol' Glory. Combine the greed of several thousand money-hungry loan officers, pile on bankers and bond traders that find out they cannot produce enough crappy debt (read: subprime mortgages) to keep the machine wheels spinning freely enough, and viola! You have a perfect storm. I am NOT a Brad Pitt fan, however, he puts in a solid performance. Steven Carrell (sp) is one of my favorites because he brings it. He brought it in The Office (TV), Brad Almighty, Foxcatcher, and now - The Big Short. He carried the movie well. As in all books that I have ever read, the movie is a bit clip of the book, however, it was 2 hours and 2 minutes WELL spent and there was nary an empty seat in the theatre on a Saturday over a holiday weekend. Very highly recommended.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Save your time
This movie has its moments, don't get me wrong. It attempts to shed some light on the misgivings of men, and in particular, a man, in this case. The violence is so prolific it really should be classified as an action movie versus a sci-fi flick. Needless to say, I feel the movie rather misses the mark as it could have benefited from further character development and perhaps a few more drops of reality. Could this actual event ever take place? NO. Should I give it more grace with that in mind? NO. It still needs more character development. There were several funny moments and also a few moments where you will be left with slight breathlessness, however, overall, I would not recommend taking the time out on this one if you are a true post-apocalyptic movie fan such as myself.
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
ONly cause its 3D (minimal spoiler here)
Movie was good, gave it a 6 of 10 only because it was 3D. This is not the blue-and-red shades 3D, it is the REAL 3D, both lenses are gray. It has 4-5 points in the film where you get the shittake scared out of you, like any good slasher film. There are also the 2-3 points where u r like "man I am glad this was done in 3D". Being a PA resident I knew they would film it somewhere in PA once I saw the bridges (kind of reminded me of The Office TV series). I have seen much better horror films, and I have seen better 3D movies. My fave is actually the Freddie movie where the last 20 minutes are 3D, and Freddy's mouth opens again and again, and it flies right into your face! Good scroll of young actors, but I had a question the movie couldn't answer. Why would the miner be waiting in the truck drivers truck? How did he know he would go to his truck?????????????? Anyway, the bad guy (no spoiler LOL) does a good job of showing himself near the end of the film, I will leave it at that.
20 Years After (2008)
The MOVIE needs to caught in a nuclear blast, and FORGOTTEN!
1. Acting: Deplorable, except the black guy know-it-all with the funky trashed ear 2. Editing: atrocious. As the movie tried to play through 3 to possibly 4 story lines, I literally felt like I was given ADHD because I could not physically sit through the end of the movie. The blue bottle tree becoming yet another uneventful side story was the last straw. That and the fully intact F150 in the cave with no wheels??? I mean c'mon! The KICKER is that this movie was shown on the redbox cover display as if it belonged up there with the "Best of '08" selections. You want to see a great movie from this year (or 07???) that will stick with you for many, many weeks? See no country for old men, and this time TLJ does NOT steal the movie. You'll see. But back to my limited synopsis. This movie sucks so bad it HAS to get at least ONE razzie!
Basic Instinct 2 (2006)
great flick *spoiler*
has all the brawn and guts of the firsat film with no other known faces than Sharon Stone. I could not have guessed the ending before it occurred, well written psychological thriller. Writing was crisp, plot lines were thick. Sharon Stone somehow still looked good. I think the British accent made for a better movie. Drug confusion was key in confusing moviegoers to now know who the killer. I was quite surprised Stone showed "so much of herself" but was also (pleasantly) surprised she was in SUCH good shape. Well done Miss Stone. Compared to Michael Douglas' recent flicks, which have NOT fared ass well. she did well. She should have 2 or 3 good films left in her, in my opinion.
Norbit (2007)
How'er YOU doin?
I went on a movie rating site and saw BOMB after BOMB thrown at this flick. Let me tell you all something, I have NEVER laughed more during one flick in YEARS (maybe ever). There were people in our theater laughing out loud so hard it would usually make them (or others) feel uncomfortable, but we were laughing along with them! We will be seeing this movie again the the theaters, and will definitely buy it on DVD (and my wife does not watch more than a handful of movies more than once, and on this we both agreed). (SPOILER ALERT) If you see Eddie Murphy when he is stuck in the confines of his basement I was bouncing in my recliner at the theater, it was literally outrageous! (LAST SPOILER I PROMISE) when he is caught at Wong's restaurant and she proves he was there by what he was eating, again, it was really (REALLY) funny!
The Girl Next Door (2004)
spanking good flick
I will be the first to admit I expected this to be a zit covered teens nightmare (which it is), BUT it also has a very, very good story line...with SUBPLOTS! I was surprised the acting was so good (by the starring actress moreover than everyone else). Kelly played a very good role as the bad guy, and made the movie quite humorous. The lead did not make me laugh, but more so made me wish I was 20 again...four stars. this girl WILL be in movies for a while, so get used to her. the fact that she is dating J T's assistant bothers me, but that will change. BTW she started in Canada, went to the series 24 and then Love Actually, and now GND. Very good stuff.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
one of the better movies I have ever seen
There will be no sequel to this gem. Jim Carey DOES give the performance of his life (which is no small feat) and I have always been a fan of Kate Winslet so this movie was already something I wanted to see. The filming of the piece is what makes this film truly remarkable. You could easily watch this movie 3-4 times and pick up new stuff. I will give it 4 of 4 stars, and have no negative feedback less the unnecessary use of the F-Bomb more than a few times. The only other movie I have ever seen that even remotely relates to the way this one was filmed would be "Brazil" or the one with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman (from a filming standpoint ONLY). Best of all, it has a happy ending that is *not* a Hollywood ending. See it; you'll understand. STAR-STAR-STAR-STAR
