Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
I'm not a die hard fan of comic book movies BUT...
*minimum spoiler*
I don't get all the bad reviews about this film. I went to opening night IMAX 3D. Everyone had a great time. People laughed, they cheered, they clapped. I am not a die hard super hero fanatic but I really enjoyed this film. It sustained a 2+ hour time frame and I never felt bored. There are some beautiful scenes such as the beginning of the film when they are all fighting next to each other as well as the scene at the core area. It was some of the best cgi/slow motion I've ever watched. I also really enjoyed the party scene. The humor was fun and right on for a marvel superhero movie so I'm not understanding the criticism. I loved all the characters, even the bad guy...This is great entertainment if you like this sort of movie. Yes, plot lines are important but what you need in a movie like this is fun, witty dialogue and kicking ass and it delivers!
No Good Deed (2014)
Predictable/brainless
I am usually a fan of this kind of movie. But this was just so typical and unrealistic that it was boring.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No crazed man who is thought to have murdered 5 women, his girlfriend and a guy at a bar who looked at his girlfriend would take the kind of abuse this woman inflicted upon him without retaliation. She sprays a fire extinguisher in his face and beats him over the head with it and he points a gun in her face and says, "don't ever do that again". She signals a cop, he pulls them over...she admits to the cop she signaled him, he overhears it...he kills the cop. Does nothing to her. She stabs him a letter opener, nothing. He just keeps pointing a gun at her until the predictable final scene where they duke it out. (he's huge, she never would have stand a chance, she hints to the fact that she was a bad ass woman at some point in her life i:e setting up the fact that she will win the fight scene later on) of course she shoots him until he flies out the window and dies.
This is at best a lifetime movie. It has no guts!
The Babadook (2014)
Parenting, the real horror story..
****MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS****
With the boring horror movies Hollywood is putting out these days, this is refreshing. This movie is not for everyone though. If you're looking for gore/jump scares this movie isn't for you. This is a psychological thriller/horror/character study.
I knew right from the beginning where the mother was coming from. She's tired, she's a single parent having to deal with the endless patience it takes to deal with a child who has behavioral issues. She resents her son and loves him at the same time. He makes her a social outcast because of his problems. She's lonely and misses her husband who died in a car accident while driving her to the hospital to give birth to their son.
What I took from this movie was that everything is figurative. The babadook is her anger, frustration and fears. She doesn't want those feelings to take her over. With the babadook becoming real to her and to her son who sees the changes in her, she can keep those feelings in check. Some people did not understand the movie and I get why. Everyone is to take what they want from it. But to me, her feeding the babadook in the basement is her way of "feeding the beast", i.e her fears and rage. It's a way to keep it all under control.
I think the ending is brilliant and it sums up everything that happens throughout the movie. It's a well thought out, unique movie. The actress and the actor who played the mother and son were really great as well. This movie is a thinker, give it a chance...
Remember the Titans (2000)
If Rudy, glory and Disney had a baby........
I just now have got to see this movie after hearing all these good things about it, even getting a recommendation from my history professor!
I think it's a great films for kids but for me I thought it was a little too corny and unrealistic...
yea, i know, i know, Hollywood has to cram a lot of characters, story lines and history into a short film...but, I felt as though there was something missing...I didn't feel joyous when the movie intended you to, I felt as though it was forced..I cringed when I'm supposed to be crying, it felt too cheesy...I did a little research after the movie to find out about the real story and of course a lot was fabricated and overly dramatized....but it's Hollywood! But when you do a movie well that flubs history or events, people believe the movie version rather than actual facts (apocalypto, Elisabeth, 300, and memoirs of a geisha), that's not the case here!
I do think Denzel and the other main coach did a good job but that's all I took from the film..
BTW, a young Ryan gosling is in this! I would rather watch it for that reason then the rest of the movie!
It's worth watching once...
Passion (2012)
where to start?!
This movie's content is lifetime movie caliber....and the style seems like De Palma was confused about whether he wanted to rip off Hitchcock or Tarantino. It was a bad attempt at being stylish.
The dialogue is corny. Bad writing, bad acting, bad direction.
I don't know what kind of movie this was supposed to be.
I don't get bored easily watching films, but half way through I just didn't care.
It doesn't have a view, a point or direction...
No character development...
Not worth spending money on to watch, I do feel like I wasted my time and I've watched the English patient!
Dexter (2006)
Ohhh that Dexter..
Best show on TV since it began, period. Great cast, great story line. Writers on this show are top notch. I'm very sad for the show to end...I looked forward to it every season. It will be a long time I'm guessing that I will find a show as interesting and fun as this one!
I actually like the entire cast and that is rare, there is always someone who annoys me on most shows. There is some old cast members from another show I loved, OZ (HBO).
I actually got rid of Showtime until Dexter seasons would come on and then shut it off again. (HBO is better for movie selection)
If you like Dexter try OZ and the Tudors, good writing there as well.
The Tudors (2007)
Tudors: The show of the close talkers....
I know that this show is historically inaccurate........so what? Inglourious Bastards and a lot of other movies and shows are inaccurate, but does that make them any less great? This show is wonderfully shot, beautifully costumed, greatly acted and interesting.
I did not start watching this show until it was already over, but I watched every episode back to back, I was entertained.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers commanded ever scene he was in, and beside my interest in the Tudor lineage, without him I wouldn't have kept watching...He gives Henry a fresh update and in a time that we don't hear much about, His younger days.
I think even though its very inaccurate, if people are that interested maybe they will seek the truth and learn something! People do not give TV and movies the credit they deserve for educational purposes, I've learned many things through researching stuff I've seen on TV....
I give the show a 10! it did its job....to entertain, and quite wonderfully at that! If every TV show and movie had to be historically accurate, we wouldn't have any entertainment!
Camp 14: Total Control Zone (2012)
This guy is a survivor...
!!!@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@!!!!!!!! I came across this movie after seeing shin speak about his experience on Anderson Cooper. I knew it was going to be a sad story, one of torture and the freedom of escape from a horrible place....What really struck me, is at the end when he says that he misses his pure heart and would rather live in the camp he came from and endure the beatings and abuse than to live in the modern world with the constant struggle for money and the constant worry that comes with everyday life....What does this say about modern day society? This man still knows no peace even with freedom because we are still slaves to something, all of us. I can only imagine wanting to taste something you only ever heard about, to think you are in heaven and then to be let down by it and realizing the places are different, the situation different but you still are not free. He misses the ignorance of his sheltered life. It makes me sad for humanity that consumerism and greediness has ruined us. And we wonder how people can be institutionalized and even feel a comfort after time in it? I understand it, and I wish him all the best the world can offer him. I thought it was a great documentary and an eye opener!
