Sharp Objects: Falling (2018)
Secrets, Lies and More Secrets, then, More Lies
We've witnessed the slowest burn for six weeks and it all leads to this episode.
Everything comes full circle, and we finally understand what is happening inside the mansion of Crellins including what happened to the poor Marian. I don't wanna spoil anything but the scene between Camille (Amy Adams) and John (Taylor John Smith) at the bar is the highlight of this episode. The tension between two characters who have the same history of losing their sisters; oh man, this scene alone solved the paradox of John being a killer or not. The best thing about this episode is that even though the secrets are starting to reveal, the director avoid all the clichés of horror/thriller shows and films (like relying on suspenseful music, running in terror to save someone's lives, etc.) instead the creators make it simple without losing the tone of the show.
We have seen the cynical, stubborn, surly sides of Camille during the previous episodes but in this episode, we learn that she is still vulnerable and fragile like all of us after all that she's been through. We will see our Amy sweeping Golden Globe, SAG, Critics Choice and next year Emmy for her incredible performance as our unlikable protagonist, Camille Preaker.
The acting skills of all the major supporting actors (e.g. Chris Messina) and actresses (e.g. Elizabeth Perkins who finally got some scenes to shine in this episode) should not be forgotten espeically the flawlessly subtle performance by Patricia Clarkson. By the way, keep your eyes on young talents like Eliza Scanlen and Taylor John Smith; they are gonna be the next big things in Hollywood if they continue choosing the ambitious projects like Sharp Objects.
Hands down, this is the best episode of Sharp Objects so far and hope the series finale will be as amazing and thrilling as this one.
Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards (2016)
The BEST episode of the show; of the decade; of the century!
I'm proud of being a fan of "Game of Thrones" and this episode, 'Battle of the Bastards' makes me prouder than ever! Don't worry, I won't spoil anything (but, as usual, prepare your mind to say goodbyes to some beloved characters). The first twenty minutes are all about the battle sequence by Daenerys at Meereen; the standard of visual effects is quite superior than most ordinary action flicks (yes, I mean 'movies'. I wanna repeat: the special effects of "Game of Thrones" are way better than some other forgettable Hollywood summer movies, man. It's one of the facts, by the way.) And after that action sequence, you may think there's no more surprise or the climax's done; you're so wrong, mate. As always, the creators, David Benioff & D.B. Weiss (and the mastermind-author >>> the genius himself George R. R. Martin), saved the best for the last. The ultimate battle between the beloved Jon Snow and the hateful Ramsay Bolton.
I think there won't be enough adjectives to describe how excellent the battle sequence was. It's absolutely mind-blowing. By the way, there's the scene before the battle which will make you (which did make me) biting your nails and screaming at the top of your lungs with intense heartache or agony or you-can-call-it-what-you-want. Okay, let's continue about the battle between two bastards; the beautiful costumes throughout the episode, the impeccable direction (long camera takes of Jon Snow's fight scenes), the breathtaking cinematography, the brilliant sound and film editing, the astonishing make-up, the thrilling score, and the last not the least, the unbelievably astounding performances by almost all the actors and actresses (leading, supporting, even the run-ins). Dude, believe it or not, I was shaking while watching this adrenaline-pumping, larger-than-life episode.
Yes, I've been watching "Game of Thrones" for six years and we, royal fans, have experienced all the unexpected thrills and you know what, we're never ready for those great thrills no matter how much we've prepared our minds. That is one of many reasons we love "Game of Thrones".
If you're a royal fan and haven't watched it yet, I a-million-percent guarantee you'll love it beyond all reckoning. And it will become one of the best one-hour-s of your life! This is the kinda episode which will strike you to the core and will stick with you forevermore.
One word, "Masterpiece!"
