Harrison's Flowers (2000)
So VERY good.
This is one heck of a movie. Everything about it is just so wonderfully put together. The story is about a woman (Andie Mcdowell) and her journalist husband (I forget his name). While on a trip, her husband is reported dead, but Sarah (I remembered her name now) doesn't believe that is true, so, she sets out to find him. She doesn't go along, she goes with some other journalists (including Adrian Brody). This trip is a long, dangerous, and strenuous trip that shows the brutality of war, and the strong love between a woman and her husband. What happens I won't say of course, but the title of the movie has to do with the ending.
The acting is phenomenal and the direction of the movie is superb. The script is great, however I found the dialog to be bland and had a little bit to much profanity, but its a really minor turn off. But the movie is a movie you can't forget, and its a must see for war fans and for fans of anyone in the cast.
I rate it 10/10 (excellent) Rated R-Strong War Violence and Gruesome Images, Pervasive Language and Brief Drug Use
House of Sand and Fog (2003)
darkly wonderful.
This is a very dark, depressing, yet brilliant movie. Jennifer Conelly and Ben Kingsly steal Kathy, a down on her luck woman who's house is being taken away from her. It is sold to another family, a man who has been working hard to give his family a nice life in America. What happens after that is up to you to see, and I say this because this is a must-see movie in my opinion. This movie really throws out the heavy emotions. It is up to you who to side with, although its most likely everyone sides with the same person(s). Great acting, great direction. Its powerful, dark, and beautiful. If you haven't yet, see it.
I rate it 7/10 R-some violence/disturbing images, language and a scene of sexuality (I would not recommend this to anyone under 15)
Darkness (2002)
I liked it.
A 6 for this film doesn't sound that great, and it really isn't, but this was a pretty good movie. Its not the best, in fact, its pretty much your typical ghost house storyline, but there was a lot in it that made it good. The acting is great, and the film really comes through with that. The direction of the film was also really good, and the pacing of the movie was just perfect.
What surprised me was, this movie is actually quite suspenseful and frightening. I wasn't scared while watching it, but afterwords I had trouble sleeping. THere are many elements in that make it so. And the film isn't trying to be the most scariest, horrifying film either, which is also why it worked. Overall the movie is worth a look if your into horror/thrillers or anyone who plays in it.
My rate is 6/10 R(Unrated Version)-Terror/Violence and Language PG-13- Disturbing Images, Intense Terror Sequences, Thematic elements and Language
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
Very good and funny.
This is def. a classic comedy, full of twists and humor. Steve Martin and Michael Caine are brilliant, as is the lead female actress. I won't play into the plot that much, but it basically has to do with scamming and the people who do the scamming. The film is an original heist movie, it was just so good. The humor in it is somewhat typical, but it has a lot more darker humor in it to. All the actors make their characters so believable, and it is a must see for anyone who are fans of them. Movies like these are rare, the best example would be Oceans 11, and even that is a remake. This is a classic, and unfortunately can see this being remade by Hollywood, which would be a disaster. See this film, that is all I can say.
I rate it 7/10 PG My rating- PG-13- Some Crude/Sexual Material
Bird on a Wire (1990)
It was entertaining and funny!
OK, so this may not be the best movie, in fact, its not really good in a sense of writing and such, but it is fun and enjoyable. Goldie Hawn and Mel Gibson don't really have the best chemistry, but there not really suppose to throughout most of the movie. Both do good in their characters, and the acting from everyone who played in it was not bad. The movie does have a few cheesy moments, and of course the movie is far from being believable, but its fine. Besides the humor, what saves this movie is the action. Good action, not particularly original or suspenseful, but its fun and highly entertaining, which is what you should want in an action/comedy.
Overall the movie is for people interested in the actors, or those who want an action comedy.
I rate it a 7/10 PG-13-Action Violence, Some Sexual Content/Nudity, and Language (this isn't a kids movie either).
Chasing Papi (2003)
Incredibly Stupid.
I really wanted to see the movie because of Jaci Valesquez, who is a Christian musician. I thought it would be pretty good, but I was dead wrong. This is not a good movie at all, it was just dumb, unoriginal, and did not seem fitting whatsoever for a Christian musician to be playing in. Not that it is necessarily bad in content (well, it has a few moments), but it is not something to promote. The acting was fine, the entertainment was OK, but somewhat ruined because of the awful script and direction of the film. I cannot even recommend if to die hard Jaci fans either, it was a mistake of a film, and I never really rate movies harshly, but this one was just bad.
I rate it 5/10 PG-Mild Sensuality and Language
Betty Fisher et autres histoires (2001)
I just didn't enjoy it, but I can't deny it was well written.
It looks like a promising movie, and it is to some extent, but I feel like it failed to show us the characters. The acting was good, but not entirely convincing at times. The movie as far as suspense and such is bad. No suspense, no action, no intensity. I didn't really understand some of the movie, and that may be why I didn't enjoy it.
If you like intriguing story lines and (for the most part) a solid movie, this is for you. I won't give anything away, but the ending is a little disappointing. I rate this a 7/10.
In case no one knows (but you should), this is a French movie.
(My rating) R-Some sexual content/language, and brief violence
Almost Heroes (1998)
So my rating is wrong, but whatever.
I rated this movie a 10 just for fun. I would actually give this an 8. The story is very creative and very funny. I don't know why people have rated this so low. The movie is sort of kiddish, but it is funny and everybody should like Farley. Chris Farley always gives me a smile and it is sad he died. I will say this movie is one of my favorites of him, even if he plays the same role like he does in the other movies. The isn't exactly for children either even though it looks like it. If you are looking to enjoy a movie with good laughs and a good feeling, I would watch it, but if you are very critical of these types, I would most likely recommend a different movie. But Farley fans aren't fans unless they see this. I give this an 8 out of 10/ PG-13-Crude Humor and Nudity
Grilled (2006)
Just above average, but still a cute movie.
So, I heard about this movie through IMDb and decided to check it out. First off, it is a low budget straight to video movie, but, this has some big name actors. Ray Ramano and Kevin James are REALLY good together in this movie. THe chemistry is there and you can tell they are friends. The acting is really good to, although a bit silly some times. The movie is very entertaining. The only problem I had with this movie was it was a little amateurish (sp?). I almost could have been a little kids movie had it not been for the content. The humor isn't like non-stop, but is consistent with the movie. There is strong language and a bit of violent content, so if you don't like really crude movies, stay away. Overall it was just OK, but still a fun little movie. I give this a 6/10.
R-Language, some sexual references, and a scene of violence.
When a Stranger Calls (2006)
It is just so far out there
The movie starts out with the fair going on, and then a murder happens. Then we cut to Jill. We see her school life-her friends, and later see her family. She has to stay miss the school bonfire for going over her minutes. She has to babysit.
The house from the start is eerie and is not very welcoming. Later on, she starts getting calls, and that's when the adventure starts.
There are a lot of cliques. From the start, the acting is only okay. Camille Belle was sort of plain and boring at times. All the other actors did a mediocre job too.
the movie was actually creepy, and had some tense moments. But because so much of it as to unbelievable, it wasn't as scary as it could have been.
People should give this movie a break though. Yes, it is all around a poorly produced movie, but I think people didn't like it because it did not have a lot of violence or gore. You have to put yourself in her situation, and when you do, you realize it is very disturbing. It was certainly more intense than most PG-13 horror movies.
My rating is a 6/10 PG-13-intense terror[ this was a good and accurate rating], violence and some language.
Minority Report (2002)
Excellent!
This is an intriguing movie about a man who is accused of future murder. This was an awesome action-packed movie! One of Toms better characters. The movie is really a handful to watch but it really gets your adrenaline rushing. It's not the greatest movie and it is def. not Tom's best performance, but if you are a fan of his then you should see it anyways. Colin Farrel did pretty good as well but his role is small, but nevertheless. i'm a tad bit surprised by the PG-13 rating, but it's not a graphic movie at all. ZThe sci-fi part was the part that is somewhat over the top. If you like more of a realistic thriller, then you should skip it, but action/sci-fi fans should see it[ that is, unless you hate tom cruise].
PG-13- violence, brief language, some sexuality and drug content
The Horse Whisperer (1998)
Coull have been a good movie it it had the right morales
This ultimately could have been a good movie had it not been for the wrong choices the people made. The story starts with a little girl and her friend[ if I remember correctly] who are riding their horses when they get in an accident. Somehow the parents want her to start riding again, so they take her to this ranch. At first the girl is hesitant but eventually she starts to like. While the mother, choosing some wrong choices starts to fall for the horse whisperer as well as he falls for her. The father[ who didn't go with them] comes up for a visit and to watch his daughter ride. The girl is happy now that he is there[ she is unaware of the her mom's actions]. The father[ played by Sam Neill] notices her the mother's distance between the and the fact that she felt uncomftorable with him. The movie has a sad ending, yet the director seemed to want that ending to support the mother's actions. It could have been much better had he ending been more disapproving of the mother. My rate is 7/10
PG-13- an accident scene- it also includes muture themes and mild sensuality
Equilibrium (2002)
I don't remember much about it, but it was good
I didn't really want see it, but my brother rented it. It's one of those movies that have the look of a cheap action/thriller, but it's more than just that. it's not really action packed as much as I thought it would be, and the special effects or slightly off, but the story line was what kept you interested. Christian Bale and Taye Diggs did really well and any fan of them must see this. i hate the fact that one review said to forget the Matrix, you can't really compare the two, but if I have to choose the better of the two I can't, they both equal in my eyes. The point of the movie surprised me, but you'll have to watch it for yourself. I rate this 8 1/2 out of ten, but for IMDb I'm giving it a 9/10
Rated R- violence
Strike! (1998)
Youv'e gotta love it
It's a great movie with lots of laughs. I rented this movie because of kirsten dunst, but I didn't know for sure if I would like it, but I did. Kirsten Dunst character is hilarious. The other girls are funny as well. This is a movie both girls and boys will, but I think it will appeal to girls more only because it revolves around them. If your'e a fan of the movie check it out. Parental warning- this is definitely not for younger children, it contains sexual content and oher themes that, some are funny, but not suitable for kids. I give this movie a 8/10 rated PG-13- teen sex-related material language and some substance abuse.
Red Eye (2005)
fun little thriller
This is one of those cheap thrillers but you like it because of the movie stars
and action. Racheal McAdams did pretty well for a serious role. The other main character[ I already forgot his name] did good. It's a short movie and it's hardly worth the money the probably spent, but it wasn't bad, it just wasn't really a great movie. I was a tad surprised by the PG-13 rating because the violence level is a little heavy at the end. Overall the movie isn't bad, and if your into the main actor/actress then it is actually a must-see. My rate is 8/10
rated PG-13- some intense sequences of violence and language
Mean Girls (2004)
Not bad
I thought the movie was okay. It's nothing to rave about, and it is really more for girls, guys will just enjoy the eye candy. Since this was Lohan's first adult movie I'll give her props. She didn't do great, but she did not suck. I have never seen any girl go as far as the girls doin this movie, so I am not totally sure it's a "documentary" like movie. I would only see this if your a fan of any of the actress or actors, but if your looking for some deep meaning movie, save your money. I rate this movie a 7/10 rated PG-13- sexual content, language and some teen partying[ ages 13 and up, and only if your mauture enough to handle something this influential]
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
A bizarre and different movie, but it's good.
The movie revolves around 5 sisters[ Cecilia, Lux, Therese, Bonnie, Mary] who have strict parents and a strict life. They don't have fun and their parents take so much away from them. They all commit suicide in the end.
The movie really shows what being couped up can do to you. It not olny hurts you but it also makes you choose wrong decisions for yourself and other people. This movie isn't over the top, it may be slow pacing, but it's because it wants to show realistic events in an fiction movie. The actors and actresses are great, and the movie as a whole is cinamatic. It is rated R but it's not to bad besides some sexual content. Thsi movie isn't telling parents to let their children do anything, it's just warning them that if you shelter them like in this movie, they may end up just the opposite like in this movie.
My rate is 9/10
rated R- strong thematic material
Hide and Seek (2005)
it really was not THAT bad!
The reviews on this movie make it sound really horrible. it is not a horrible movie, it may be a recycled storyline, but it makes it it's own. The acting is mediocre but it isn't bad at all, in fact Dekota did really well for being her first horror movie. If you want something scary, this isn't it[ besides some tense moments]. If you want something suspenseful or even just just entertaining, then watch it. It does not have the greatest storyline or theme, but it will do. So Robert and Dekota fans, go rent this.
For kids fans of Dekota, they will have to wait, the film is to disturbing for any under 13.
R- frightening sequences and violence
The Terminal (2004)
An enjoyable yet strange movie
I wanted to see this movie when it came out, so we saw it. I was expecting a comedy with the usual Tom Hanks character. I was wrong. I was bored at first because I thought I was tricked, but I watched it and found it to be actually entertaining and boring at the same time. Cathering Zeta- Joner's character is introduce and that's when it start going a little better. She played her part well and seemed to enjoy doing it.
This isn't a laugh-out-loud comedy, the laughs are subtle, but it doesn't have to be. It's is a touching story with heart and compassion. I liked the romance because it wasn't your usual mushy lovey-dovey type.
A good film that, well may be slow and even boring, it is one to watch.
rated PG-13- brief language and some drug references.
Big (1988)
Every boys wish and nightmare
This is a great movie about a boy who makes a wish at the fair to become big. When he wakes up, he finds himself fully grown. It's been a while since I've seen this, but it is very funny and very touching too. This is more of a boys tale than anything else. The acting is great and anyone looking for an overall enjoyable movie will like this. There is some inappropriate material in the movie, so it is not for everyone. The film is a true classic and should continue to be a classic. It is also one of Tom Hank's best performance's. But get some popcorn and enjoy the movie! My rate is 9/10
rated PG- language, sexual references, and some sensuality
Melinda and Melinda (2004)
Charming
This is a fun little tale about a women who tries to get a life. Her story is told in a tragedy and a comedy. The acting is wonderful and it is funny in it's own unique way. If you like woody Allen or his style of movies I suggest you check it out. I found it to be boring at times but overall it is a perfect movie for fans of art Parental warning- contains mature thematic material, sexual references and language. note- for those looking for a more funny comedy, should check out something else, but if you enjoy a humorous tale, check this out. My rating is a 7/10
PG-13-adult subject matter involving sexuality and some substance material
Octane (2003)
it gets my vote
I thought this movie was overall very entertaining. It wasn't what people thought it was because they misunderstood it. The ending like most other people said was what ruined it, bet hey, I think I know who survived. The acting
was great, Madeline Stowe and Mischa Barton did great, it was very realistic. Ms. Phillips also did great. I
liked the fact that not to much material was shown about the cult because that would be like judging all cults fact, not an opinion It really was entertaining. My vote is
a 9/10.
rated R-strong violence, language, some drug and sexual content
