Amazing autobiographical documentary using Kilmer's own home movies documents his life, work, and art. A treasure. Unforgettable. After seeing it you will want to watch his movies again.

Great movie, sorry I didn't see it in the theater!! It didn't get enough promotion here!

Great psycho-thriller, draws you right in. Loved the understated style, movie manages to suggest what's going on without resorting to grisly torture scenes and other clichés. Most violence is shown after the fact, not too graphic. (Of course not suitable for children.) Great performances, beautifully filmed. If you love Apocalypse Now / Last King of Scotland type films where a mysterious megalomaniac is glimpsed or gradually revealed through the eyes of an outsider, you will probably especially like it (in this case it is just glimpses of Escobar, on one hand the family man, adored by his supporters, and on the other a completely detached and ruthless psychopath.) Of course Benicio del Toro is incredible in the role of Escobar and all the cast are excellent. Unfortunately it seems the title gave some viewers/critics the expectation that the movie should be a biopic of Escobar, and the fact del Toro was so good in the role just left people wanting more. But it is a really good movie nonetheless.

Pain & Gain (2013)

Three bodybuilders with small man issues who become involved in crime. Surprisingly psychological and charming. Not for all audiences.

Violent, psychological, funny, over the top, shocking, and even lovable exploitation dark comedy / satire / action comedy (based on a true story) about three bodybuilders with small man issues and the terrible and bizarre crimes they get themselves into as a result. Fans of Pulp Fiction, Scarface, Fargo, Jackie Brown, Barton Fink, Goodfellas, Godfather, Sonatine, Tarantino, Coen Brothers, etc, will probably appreciate. Fast paced, character driven action, extreme action, extreme subject matter and language, Miami scenery, dark comedy, gangster violence, psychological humor, slapstick humor, exploitation film, profanity, sexuality. Excellent performances, great characters, beautifully crafted. Rated R. Not suitable for children. Surprisingly psychological and charming and one of my new favorites in this genre. Not for all audiences or people who like straightforward, formula entertainment.

Sleek and funny movie about tax evasion, high rollers, lovable tax inspectors, love nests, gangsters, etc, in 1980s Tokyo. Too much fun!

I love all Jyuzo Itami's films and especially this one. The movie gives you the feeling of being able to glimpse behind the wall of many closed worlds, from the multi-millionaire's exclusive world, to the back rooms of pachinko parlors and yakuza offices, love hotels and mistresses' apartments, to the inner workings of the banks and tax department. Very funny with a strong, suspenseful pace, interesting settings, lovable characters, and heart warming moments. Great jazz soundtrack. For me, the combination of the humor + Japanese settings + tax evasion detective story + colorful characters + great soundtrack was just irresistible.

Nacho Libre (2006)
8/10
surreal silliness mixed with lush, beautiful visuals and fantastic soundtrack A++ One huge smile of a movie.

This movie gave me the biggest smile of any movie in a long time. Delightful. Totally heartwarming. Quirky, beautiful, and slightly surreal. The fun, hip visual design and fantastic soundtrack are a feast for the senses. These plus the warmth and lovable innocence of the story transcend the slapstick humor....yet the over-the-top silliness, as delivered by Jack Black and cast, is really hilarious. I was reminded somewhat of favorite quirky movies from the 60's-70's (Like Harold and Maude), and more recently the Wes Anderson movies (Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Aquatic Life) and was even reminded of that beautiful kind of psychedelic Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo and Claire Danes. Now that I've seen this I am definitely going to see Napoleon Dynamite. Usually slapstick type humor, and crude humor, doesn't appeal to me, and I have absolutely no interest in pro wrestling. Yet the combined elements of Nacho Libre really made me smile, laugh (and, strangely, tears came inexplicably streaming down my face at one point. Did it happen to you, too? This movie is more than just hilarious satire, it touches something in your heart.) Jack Black and all the cast are incredible. Thoroughly enjoyable, leaves you smiling.
