Irish Wish (2024)

Most generic movie ever
23 March 2024
I expected something harmless but pleasant, maybe too sweet. Nope. I wish! It is flavorless, totally bland. Completely generic in every aspect. Even silly stuff requires some creativity to be fun. Some chemistry between the actors. Unfortunately this movie lacks both, to such an extent that it seems created by AI without human intervention. Characters are not characters but points on a checklist. Cardboard cutouts. And let's not talk about Lindsay Lohan, who always delivers her lines in a frenzy, giving the impression she's in a hurry to be somewhere else. I know people cheer on her because of the troubles she's had but sorry... she is far from being the only troubled actor in history, shouldn't we wish success on the really talented ones?

Like Bruno but less funny
17 January 2024
In a nutshell, this is the story of an awful guy - who speaks like Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno - who is married to a man but is converted by Adele E.'s loveliness and then keeps changing his mind. If you think it sounds like a bad joke... it is. The script is reduced to basic scenes which don't reveal much about the characters but hey, at least the costume designer seems to have something to say. Nice crop tops! There are some quite explicit sex scenes, so something happens. Sometimes. Seriously, I get that the film tries to say something about modern relationships, fluid sexuality etc, but ultimately it's like an essay with just a title.

Not much under the surface

It's not a terrible series, but it's unoriginal. More style than substance, it's a glossy production with a shallow script. Gugu MR does her best, but her character fails to be that interesting. And no, having a black protagonist married to a white man is not "woke" or propaganda. If you think that in 2022 you need to go outside and observe reality.

The Cave (III) (2019)

Amateurish
29 July 2022
What a bad movie. Very amateurish, with generic dialogue and music. The drama is non-existent so the whole thing is flat and boring. The boys are hardly shown in the cave and don't even seem that bothered by their ordeal, so that as a viewer I didn't care much about them. After three days inside they are just a bit thirsty. Okay.

Underrated and inspirational
3 May 2022
As a non-US viewer, I'm really enjoying the series. Maybe I'm less biased than American audiences, since I don't know a lot about these first ladies nor I had Michelle Obama that often on my TV screen, so I find it interesting and engaging. All these 1 rating are a joke. Come on... The time jumps, with frequent flashbacks, are done well and not confusing at all. The acting is very good from the whole trio of actresses, and some criticisms are silly. For example, how was Anderson supposed to impersonate Mrs R without some prosthetics? She would just look like Gillian A. With brown hair. The 3 first ladies all shine with warmth, intelligence and the determination to change things and not just be the president's wives. The series is good at making this point.

Unbalanced but still interesting
14 October 2020
It's more like 7 and a half for me. I'm a big fan of the original movie and I had big expectations for this doc. I wish it was more about the writing, characters and themes, instead it delves more deeply into the making of the special effects. Of course they were revolutionary at the time and it's an important aspect of the movie, but I could have done with less details (the part about making Slimer feels neverending). It's still interesting and rich though.

About j z a p p a's review
13 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Shame! User j z a p p a copied an analysis of the movie by rewriting it. It's on the Psychology Today site and was written by Ilana Simons - and is very good.

These are only 3 examples from j z a p p a's review and Dr Simons's piece - compare:

S More, it's about the misguided ways in which we all deal with the fact that one day, as the writer Roy in the movie says, we're going to meet the "tall dark stranger" who is not a lover but the grim reaper. vs JZ More, it's about the imprudent manner in which we all cope with the truth that one day, a character in the movie says, we're going to meet the "tall dark stranger," not a lover but the grim reaper.

S Then there's Roy, a writer, who wants to live forever by writing novels. When he sees the limitations in his talent that would keep him from historically lasting fame, he steals a novel from a dying man, to cheat his way into public memory. vs JZ Brolin longs to achieve immortality through his work. When he sees the limits in his flair for it that would hinder him from enduring renown, he steals a novel from a dying man.

S There's a color-based counterpoint in Alfie and Helena, too. Both appear throughout the whole movie in white outfits. Alfie's white comes to represent the medicinal sterility of his desire to live forever; Helen's white represents her growing affinity for the angels. vs JZ There's a color-centered counterpoint in Hopkins and Jones, too. Both appear all through the film in white clothes. His white comes to characterize the therapeutic unproductive of his longing to achieve immortality, hers her budding adulation for the white light.

People, you get easily caught in the age of the internet. Don't be a prick, don't COPY.
