The Visitor (2022)
A real horror
For me the movie male lead actor was too weak . He eventually got better later on as the movie progressed, but because of his continually poor grip on reality the movie tended to drag on for me before finally starting to take on a real sinister air to it. Eventually it started to scare me because I could finally start to see where it was going. It reminded me of the movie Hereditary from 2018 but thankfully not as gory in its portrayal of the darker side of mankind. The acting was very good and the towns people's blissful reverance to the male charactor, and their honor to him for his lifes purpose was most scary to me. I would have scored it higher if the male lead wasn't a drama queen had a stronger presence and not make me think he was going to flake out at any moment. I can see however that the average person wouldn't comprehend the truly divine horror of the plot.
Downsizing (2017)
Another depressing man destroying the world movie
Here we go again pushing the agenda of man destroying the earth and doing insane things to counter the imaginary events ahead. Extremely depressing and shallow plotline that never really goes anywhere, while we are served up half bored charactors that have no endearing or attractive qualities what so ever. You would have to be stoned out of your mind to even remotely find anything entertaining about this movie. The stupidity and shallow mindedness of the director and producer flow through this movie. If I were an actor working in this movie I'd be starting the day with a good look in the mirror saying to myself " what the hell am I doing here?"
The Lost Room (2006)
Wonderful mystery sci-fi mini series
So nice to find a mini series that is so enjoyable and doesn't feel the need to explain every little thing to the audience. The spectacular actors really carry this along. The editing is great by not leaving out anything important, and more importantly, not leaving things in that don't really add much to the series or could possibly slow things down. The plot isn't predictable, nor did they pan the scene to any specific ditail or object that will have a later relavance to things ahead like others do. Much credit to the director. The added humor really help complete things and give the series a more realistic and human feel of irony to it. I think it's quite a little masterpiece worth keeping that thankfully didn't become a tv series that aventually runs out of ideas and ultimately becomes irrelevant.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Very decent
McGregor was as good as expected, but Rebecca Ferguson really made this movie for me. The movie could have been either trimmed down or changed around to add a back story of flashbacks where the group of people came from with more of a vintage past added to make the movie more colorful. Murder scene could have been changed to make dying more of an enjoyable experience for the individuals that were fed on, perhaps even made desirable and less bloody to appeal to a larger audience. Making the group more colorful and human would have been a plus. The group of followers weren't any more appealing than the group that followed Charles Manson.
Wire Room (2022)
Fast action nothingness
I'll agree they didn't Need Bruce Willis in this. I'll even go as far as to say having Bruce Willis in it hindered it. Bruce appeared to having problems walking around and appeared angry and uncomfortable the whole time, distracting me from the whole movie with its worthless plot and instead focus my attention on Bruce and wondering how he is doing. Perhaps Bruce owed someone a favor and regretably did this movie as distressing as it may have been for him. So as one person put it, it was one last time to see Bruce even though he added nothing but create speculation as to how he is doing in his personal life. Dillon did well and deserves any credit due for keeping the movie moving along.
Chompy & the Girls (2021)
Silly, and funny with a happy ending.
Very pleasant low budget movie. The lead charactor of Chompy with such unusual behavior and movement is what kept me wanting to continue on at first. The acting bordered on poor at times to very good. The lead female actress was very good. The plot wasn't easy to figure out right away like so many movies are, and was out of the box in a very good way. I give credit to the director for following a different course of camera angles and attention and shoots that I found refreshing. The editing was good and the movie didn't drag on anywhere with anything unessasary to the plot. The idea of Chompy with the giant mouth, although very silly at first made perfect sense later on and much credit for not feeling the need to spoon feed information to the audience like talking to imbicils.
The Prisoner (2009)
Dramatic garbage
The people responsible for this garbage have no idea what they were trying to accomplish. They took a completely cerebral miniseries and turned it into a bunch of dramatic gibberish. Casting was way off. Directing would have been better if a monkey had done it. Absolutely horrible. The original series by Pattrick McGoohan wasn't meant to be a series, so the only thing right about this remake was it was a miniseries. I would have hoped that if they wanted to take something older and just ruin it, they would have done it to something more deserving of an honor. One would think that they were just looking for anything to remake that was old enough that no one remembered how good or bad the original was, to copy and not make a stink about how horrible they made it.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
Vapid
I only gave it 3 stars because Cunis was in it. The other actors we shallow and unfunny especially Mckinnon. Mckinnon is attractive and full of energy, but not funny and eventually got on my nerves with her overboard "MadTV" style of acting. The plot was too simple and stupid. The movie couldn't decide if it was trying to be serious or funny, but accomplished neither. Naked gun movies were over the top and so rediculus that they were funny, but when this movie started to follow that pattern it suddenly started heading in another direction. It was as if the movie was being directed by two different directors.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Only season 1 worth watching
Not a fan of flashback sequences, and these ones were far too lengthy and unnecessary . Do yourself a favor and cut out all the flashbacks and watch only the present day scenes before you it watch again later on. And don't bother with season 2 unless you have a sleeping disorder and are desperate to get some sleep. Most of the actors were very good, but the two main charactors with the sexual tension between them is what kept me wanting more. Toss the season two in the garbage and call the only season worth watching a mini series and you will feel better about the whole thing. After the two main charactors went their bitter sweet ways should have been the end.
Harvest Lake (2016)
A movie plot with potential
Bottom of the line is I thought it was an interesting plot with potential. I also found it interesting that someone reviewing it likened it to a lovecraftian style. I enjoy the way they tried to blend humans with plants and or interspecies in what might be considered a symbiotic relationship. They did very well on the special effects. Cons are that it needed editing to pick up the pace and speed things along more, and I just didn't really get into it like I wanted to. The charactors didn't make me believe that they themselves were really believing what was happening, or whole heartedly really into it. I think with the proper director, crew and a little bit of magic it could be made into a hit.
Netherworld (1992)
A little gem with some southern charm
I give the producers of this movie credit for great type casting. The actors did a great job in helping to make this unique movie and enjoyable. I hope someday someone will come along and remaster it to be seen in HD. I really like horror movies that rely on great story lines instead of gratuitous cheesy special effects.
BloodRayne (2005)
Good cast, terrible director. Save your money and rent it later on.
Movie was lacking in depth. The cast could have done with a better director. Movies like Queen of the Dammed and Bram Stokers Dracula were appealing for their closer exploration to characters, and the development of the romance. Bloodrayne was lacking in so many ways The range of acting displayed here was closer to the movie "A Polish Vampire in Burbank". Even some special effects would have helped. The lead character that played Rayne was perfect for the part. The rest of the cast were top notch actors in their own right. But when the director is not sure what they want or how to either convey that thought or get the cast "into the part", then Bloodrayne is the result. The fight scenes rambled on and didn't do much to add to the over all movie experience. The movie looks low budget, as if it were filmed in a few days.
