Le passé (2013)
Just seen it in theater, and cannot believe it!
Being one of the very few international movies played in the Iranian cinemas, I wish to express my genuine gratitude to every single being involved in this masterpiece. there is no single glow of acting or directing, the movie is a solid work of perfection in all aspects.
Taking the performances into consideration, Bérénice Bejo was truly living the movie. Confrontations of Marie and Ahmad, accurately resembles the cultural and personal differenced between two geographically distant people who used to be in love and still have strong feelings for each other. Naïma's actions shows the true, gray side of human beings which is accompanied with lies and deceit. Lucie is a strangely well-played teenager played by an unbelievably young and talented actress, which deeply reminds us of the sensitivity and dangers of that stage of life.
And last but definitely not least Samir, who is perhaps the main character of the movie, reminds us of the very nature of love. His sensitive character, still not fully capable of emotionally bearing the fact that the mother of his son is now in coma because of a not yet well-reasoned suicide, is struggling in his new love life. the true nature of this dilemma is more and more explained when we find out that Samir is still in love with his ex-wife and blames himself for her suicide.
Not to deny the greatness of Farhadi's "a separation" but as far as quality goes "the past" is a perfect and unrepeatable event in every aspect. The Past touches us deepest in our true feelings. Reminding us of the mistakes we have made in our past.
The Dark Knight (2008)
this isn't a Movie, it is a Life
FYI: The following is my very first movie review. After watching the trilogy for 100 (literally) times (that was kind of a vow), I finally decided to write a review on it. The very first thing I noticed the first time I watched it was "NONE", I couldn't understand a word of it because my English was so bad and the picture was so blurry (that might seem awkward but the DVD I got at that time wasn't original. It was actually filmed illegally in a movie theater, by the way that is quite usual in my country!). Two years later, I was a changed man. I became familiar with the IMDb and developed a particular interest in movies in myself. In my journey through the "Top 250" list I gave "the Dark Knight" another try (this time the DVD was genuine), AND IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE! The movie I never respected was actually the best (again, literally) movie I have ever seen! First of all, there was technically very little CGI and that is absolutely respectable and special for a superhero movie. Secondly, it really demonstrated the very nature, soul and idea before all the superheroes: "sometimes truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more, sometimes they deserve to have their faith rewarded". We cannot live on our own, we need and we deserve "mythical superiors" to help us. Sometimes the truth is too unbearable that we have no other choice but to replace it, misinterpret it with a "myth", a "lie". The myth could be "A GOD", "GODS" or even heroes: imaginary but inspiring. After all (not to offend the ones who believe) the God (or gods) is also made by the imagination of the Man, although the passing of time might make us to think that they are "real" but they are not. It is also noteworthy to understand the magnitude and the immortality of an "idea" and the trilogy represents this concept perfectly, just like V for Vendetta. Last but not least, it does not help to pretend that you are strong, and it might even bring horrible harm to you. If the reality is too dark, you just need to open the door and go "outside".
