1899 (2022)
Unexpectedly excellent first season
I saw the whole first season in 24 hours. That says much when it comes from a person who always needs days or weeks to conclude any 8-10 episodes series. Yes, I liked it THAT much! Of course, you know right from the start that nothing is what it seems and you remain puzzled as to what is actually going on. 1899 will have you questioning what you see every minute, but not in an annoying way. It had everything: the right amount of "Dark" ambience, European style, action, drama, atmosphere, great sets, suspense and mystery, emotion, nice modern music and, quite unexpectedly... gay interest. Can't wait for season 2.
Do You Take This Man (2016)
A funny and realistic approach to the true meaning of marriage
A slow paced/theatrical plot with a good message about a gay couple (they could be straight as well) and their inner questioning of marrying each other. Excellent acting makes it very enjoyable to watch. I'm glad I did.
Life Like (2019)
The most charming male actors in quite some time
The biggest asset of the movie are the super charming -and not without acting skills - male actors. They could be just walking around for the whole 90 minutes, doing nothing and still the movie would be enjoyable. Seriously now, the movie is interesting, much more than one expects from its low budget.
It Chapter Two (2019)
It Chapter Two - Revenge of the.morons
A bunch of self called losers (but who actually behave more like morons) do the most idiotic things in order to create an almost 3-hour long movie.
The Boxtrolls (2014)
Very artistic but not for small children
I saw this movie in 2019, five years after its release and I must admit I was sorry it took me so long.Very clever, nice combination of stop motion and 3D. Small children will probably miss a lot but adults will certainly enjoy it.
Frankenweenie (2012)
Good old Tim Burton
Tim Burton goes back to his roots with this dark animated film filled with classical horror elements, yet full of heart, enjoyable characters and childhood innocence.
Still, I think that this is not a movie for children, not because it is scary in any way, but due to the fact that the director pays homage to many old horror/science fiction movies of past decades (the list is impressive), so adults will certainly enjoy and appreciate it more, especially those who ever had to deal with the stress of losing a beloved pet.
Tim Burton not only made me laugh and cry with this heartwarming movie after a long run of impressive yet emotionally empty movies, but also reminded me that the child inside me is still there.
