What Jennifer Did (2024)
Poor Jennifer
A tragic story of pressure to perform and too little love that leads to a terrible tragedy.
I sympathise with Jennifer, even though she lied and didn't often make the morally right decision. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
None of us have any insight into the family circumstances of the Pans. It is therefore impossible to judge "what Jennifer did". The law must decide whether she has broken the law. In any case, I feel very sorry for her and hope that she can find peace and love.
Netflix has actually managed to retell a tragic case in an exciting way without an agenda. In a pleasant running time. No gimmickry. Bravo.
Damsel (2024)
Netflix is killing the cat!
Constant squealing, screaming, whimpering of the "hero" called Elodie (oh, the irony), non present villains but a female wannabe version of Smaug from The Hobbit and a ring toss from LOTR.
Weird atmospheric pacing in the 2nd act that feels like a typical Gen Z trippy ritual while there's time for your small attention span to scroll through your phone before overzealously placed sound effects and an AI music score tear yourself out of your trance and one totally misses the second plot point. But hey, at least Eleven's make-up and her dress look sooo cute, she's a baddie, so brave. U go gurl!
They're not even trying to do action movies anymore. Those shots are way too dark as usual if they want to hide their CGI. You can't see anything. It's not even a fantasy tale, not about dragons or knights. Who was this made for?
We're living in the Great Creative Depression with time-filling content promoted as films. Soulless efforts being made, no stories being told.
Is this the best you have to offer for International Women's Day, Netflix? Pathetic. There are real Heroines out there, in movies and in real life, all around the world, in every decade of human history. Salute to you, ladies! Thanks for being.
28 Days Haunted (2022)
Whether or not you believe in ghosts - don't watch this show!
You have been warned! How come that in the year of 2022 this kind of scripted reality show finds its way into mainstream media? Netflix, you didn't do yourself a favour.
How would anybody believe this show could be real... I mean I don't say that ghosts and the afterlife don't exist because I can't tell and I find it plausible that there are things in this world that cannot be explained. But seriously, this is poorly scripted and more poorly acted by the cast.
"I am outta here" and "get back" and "I am shaking" are the most common phrases this show makes use of anytime the editor finds this is the time to be scary.
Spoiler, it isn't scary at all. It's not funny either because they really believe in their techniques. Gee, what is this world becoming...
Office Invasion (2022)
Gotta admit, I laughed
I had doubts before hitting the play button. But to my surprise this comedy from South Africa really made me laughed several times. It has a flair of the Asylum films but without the CGI storms. Nothing special, but it was entertaining.
Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 (2022)
Rome burnt: You cannot control 300 k people
This should not be titled a documentary. It's more an opinion. A lot of facts are thrown under the table but anyways, I am more surprised how many people are falling for this narrative.
Michael Lang did nothing groundbraking back in 1969 and he didn't do anything in 1999 except giving his name for a lot of money. The summer of love from 1969 was about peace and love, no war. For a generation in the 90s without any problems at all and more opportunities than ever, this event had no basis whatsoever.
So why was it made? For money. People who called themselves music lovers didn't even know who KORN was? And then they blame the moshpit for energetic vibes? They didn't know anything about music, they didn't even want to - they just wanted to make quick money.
Besides that think about who the real creators of Woodstock 1969 were. Some 20 year old "religious" people (look them up) who were born in WW2 to military operators didn't do anything. They were placed in sight for marketing reasons.
"You cannot control 300.000 people" was a statement from the documentary. Yes, you can. Woodstock 1969 was one big operation, a social experiment to control the mass through music. 30 years later the same people behind the curtains are doing the same thing with a different vibe.
Woodstock 1999 was not only a social experiment, it was a ritual. Saturn. Cube. Laurel Canyon. And you guys think, Netflix documentaries will paint the whole picture...
Lightyear (2022)
Not bad but one logical question
LIGHTYEAR is actually a good movie although it doesn't match the atmosphere of the TOY STORY movies. It stands for its own, has some good clever jokes and really nice CGI.
But I wonder why the time dilatio is all new to the space rangers team. I mean they are space rangers, shouldn't they have heard of such thing? It is not explained how or why this happened and most of all Buzz is not eager to find out.
This to me is complete nonsense and bad writing since space rangers would act logical and never do the same mistake over and over again.
The Most Hated Man on the Internet (2022)
Doesanyonecare?
I'm not victim blaming but also I don't have much empathy for the people who got exposed on this website. Stupid people doing stupid things. It's a crazy cyberpunk world.
Crime Stories: India Detectives (2021)
Embarassing amateur police work
Seeing how Indian police officers work takes the viewer back to ancient times. One might not imagine what happens to suspects once the cameras are turned off. And the policemen still brag about it.
Culture or not, these social issues in India come up because of the thousands of years old caste system. Conflicts are pre-programmed.
Hardly any human rights, officers who are scared of the crime scene, no barriers and forensics. But a lot of prejudice. Jesus, what amateurish behavior.
What's in a Name? (2022)
Focus puller so bored he fell asleep?
Dave Chappelle considers himself as an extraordinary genius, one in a million, artist of the millenium. Wow, how arrogant is that. It's his 2nd or even 3rd Netflix special where he is only talking about his fails and successes. Not really funny, he seems to have become a highly paid narcissist. He is proud of having stepped back from Chappelle's Show when they offered him millions but now he is taking millions from Netflix.
How to Change Your Mind: Chapter 4: Mescaline (2022)
Social contradiction?!
Yes, native americans have been treated unfair. No doubt about that. And their fear of Peyote getting taken away from their land and culture is real as well. But why are non-indigenous people not allowed to use their Peyote? Just because they were the first on their land? It is god given nature so all human beings should have access to the natural Mescalinium and not the one made in the lab. This, I think, is a social contradiction.
Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill (2022)
Yaaawn...
First of all, I am a big Bill Burr fan so my expectations were pretty high. He is better alone on stage. All of the rest shouldn't have made it out of quarantine. Real bad "comedy", especially that loud squeaky redhead... No content, no message, no punchlines.
After Hours (1985)
Proof Scorsese is a BAD storyteller
Never really felt that Martin Scorsese is a genius. He made a few good films but let's be honest - this is his worst work ever. Why? The movie itself can't decide what it wants to be. Is it a drama or a comedy? Is it art with commercial cast? This is not a clever Hitchcock parody, the director didn't even know how to end his movie. Hitchcock knew film, Scorsese doesn't. Scorsese is overrated, there, I said it.
Stranger Things (2016)
How to artificially lengthen episodes
I had high hopes when I started watching the first episodes of the very first season. But I was disappointed as soon as I realized this show is all about filler scenes and not actually storytelling. They pushed it to the limits by doing so in season 4 - they artificially lengthen each episode with long shots and musical pieces to build up a strange, wild, dark irritating tone for the show. Seriously, what is this show all about in the first place?
So Not Worth It (2021)
From 3 to 6 within 1 year: Why I changed my rating.
On June 20, 2021, I wrote the following lines as a review:
"I have no clue what this was and I felt way too uncomfortable watching this series. It's like watching an inside joke - it's funny but I just don't get it. 3 * for diversity and creativity. I guess."
After having watched this series I tried to figure out what it was about. Also, the style itself was very unique to me and I am used to watch international movies and series, mainstream and independent. Apparently I wasn't prepared for this Korean type of sitcom.
I gave it another try on a lonely weekend and that was kind of a turning point to me. Watching episode after episode it kind of developed from uncomfortable to comforting without really understanding the Korean style elements of sitcom.
After a third watch I really could feel the international cast. Now, I want more. I hope there will be a second season. And I will dig deeper into Korean entertainment.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
I shouldn't have laughed so much. But I did!
What in the Netflix is this show at all? All clichés in one tv series which should have been a 80 minutes movie. But also then Kristen Bell couldn't make a good lead. This show is unwillingly funny where it is supposed to be serious or sad. I had a really good laugh.
Inside Job (2021)
Hidden in plain sight
Thanks, DS, for the truth. By making fun of all conspiracy theories you are proving them right. Ridiculous attempt to be funny. No new stuff, invent something innovative.
The Raincoat Killer: Chasing a Predator in Korea (2021)
Netflix, please reconsider your sound design!
This series' criminal case is actually pretty interesting and exciting. But I couldn't stand the permanent loud sounds and base that wants to build up and keep tension. It's necessary from a storytelling point of view - but please not all the time. Less is more. The people speaking are too quiet. The sound design distracts from the story.
Die schlechtesten Filme aller Zeiten: Liebesgrüsse aus Fernost (2021)
Censorship all the way
First they create problems with the film "Time Breaker" where there are none (censorship of their own artistic freedom because of alleged ⚫facing, although inapplicable) and now they simply cut a scene they like because two cocks are fighting. And then having the audacity to curse Filipino culture. That's the worst. Kalkofe and Rütten have finished. That would not have happened with Kai Blasberg. Meanwhile unusable.

Dave Chappelle: The Closer (2021)
Chappelle making excuses. GOAT? No, woke.
Another one bites the dust of wokeness. Chappelle used to be so good and creative in his last specials. But this last one is ruining his legacy.
Instead of telling funny jokes he is making excuses to the exact same people he has been making fun of before. But then he claims "Oh, I have respect for everybody". Hypocrite.
You got vaccinated? Good but don't wear it like an Oscar or your personal agenda in front of you.
Colonia Dignidad: Eine deutsche Sekte in Chile (2021)
Narrated as it was a mockumentary
Colonia Dignidad was a real and terrible thing were adults and children were humiliated for way too long. But seriously this mini series feels like they are mocking the subject. It is so scripted and most of the affected people who portray themselves are bad actors. One has to ask: Is this a real documentary or just fiction? Wasted opportunity. Again.
Ride Along 2 (2016)
Kevin Hart is annoying. Still.
As I have written in my review for part one: Small guy, big mouth, nothing else. He is the most overrated comedian out there. Like he was so annoying convincing Hollywood producers that he is actually funny that they said "give him some movies and Netflix specials so he'll shut it".
Monsters Inside: The 24 Faces of Billy Milligan (2021)
Starts good...
And ends up with Netflix lying again and denying a whole bunch of facts. Victim blaming at its best when it was definitely a huge experiment by big pharma, legislation, and Hollywood.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Another one as DJ Khaled would say...
Oh boy, another DC disaster that actually starts out very promising and good-looking. But they somehow manage to get lost in their own story. From one point on the characters are on their mission and you have to follow. No questions. Follow. Period. No side quests, no deep characters, flat jokes. And what's their main goal actually? At some point I didn't even care because I lost interest.
Jolt (2021)
Unbearable predictable kitsch
Another Amazon Prime Original. I don't know what to say, this movie is just lame and glorifying violence by making it look funny. Waste of time.
