Working Girls (1986)
Realistic look at a very 'realistic' profession
I have to admit that the only reason I had an interest to see this movie was because of Ellen McElduff, who plays Lucy, because I wanted to see her in something else. I had a completely different expectation from this movie, but I wasn't disappointed. This being a low budget 80s movie seemed very "worn", but I loved it. The music was cool to listen to.
Aside from that, I was appalled by how respectable young women would want to subject themselves to a job so grueling and rough. Especially because Molly is college educated and could easily work to get in to a good job. I guess you do what you have to do. This film was so real, my jaw dropped with certain scenes. I didn't expect to see so many older men show up, and I felt for the girls having to "satisfy" them. When Lucy kept wanting Molly to stay for an extra hour and then another extra hour, I felt so horrible for her, as she looked so fed up. Some of the clients and the scenes with them were especially disturbing. I really liked the end when Molly turned her back on the business and left Lucy without a solid regular. I also thought that having the film start and end with Molly and her girlfriend sleeping in bed (coming full circle) was genius.
Ellen McElduff did a great job as Lucy. I can't see how Ellen never received more leading roles. She played Lucy so well and played a B**CH perfectly. A perfect example of a boss you can hate.
Overall, an unexpected gem. (9 out of 10)
Maximum Overdrive (1986)
Weird, scary, and entertaining
I recently watched this on TV. It's the edited version, so I can't really say how I feel about the whole movie. They cut out the ATM scene, and a lot of the death scenes in their entirety. My sister likes trucks, so she loved this film. I was amused by how stupid everyone was. Also, I am just hooked on the movie for some reason.
The parts that concerned me and grossed me out were the steamroller scene, and the Suburb scene. The kid never freaked out, which isn't what would happen in real life. I was just grossed out to see a neighborhood with dead people, including a dog, a pizza delivery guy, a guy on his porch, and a girl who was strangled by her hair dryer. I would have passed out if I even saw one of those people dead. Curt and Connie were annoying, but Yeardley Smith is one of my favorite actresses (she appeared on "Mama's Family" in addition to being Lisa Simpson). Obviously this comet brainwashed these people, otherwise they wouldn't have stood in front of the trucks waiting to be hit.
Like I said, if you freak out looking at dead bodies and blood, this movie is not for you. I want the DVD, but know there will be more graphic scenes on there.
Family Matters (1989)
Love this show!
Family Matters was a great show. I realize that people hated the inconsistencies of the show, and believe me, I felt that getting rid of Judy was awful, I still love the show. You have to take this show in "eras". The first two seasons, the middle seasons (the best), and the last seasons. I DVR'd my favorite eps from the entire series and watch certain seasons at once. I used to watch on Friday nights at 8pm from around 1993 to 1997, then forgot it moved to CBS. I re-discovered the show on TBS in 2000 in re-runs, and have been watching ever since now that it is on ABC Family. I also feel bad for Jaimee Foxworth and how she was fired in 1993. Then I found out she went in to porn, and felt even more sorry for her.
My favorite season was Season 4 (1992-1993). I liked the opening from this season the best, and the show was at its peak here.
