The Other Side of the Tracks (2008)
What Did I Just Watch?!
This movie may not be everyone's cup of tea; it's a love-it-or-hate-it experience. The performances were commendable, particularly Tanya Raymonde's, which held my fascination. Nevertheless, one must admit that the cinematography and dialogue did leave something to be desired. However, beneath these flaws lies a profound message, not overtly presented but subtly woven throughout, ensuring your involvement till the end. Initially uncertain about the plot, I found that everything was ultimately interconnected harmoniously. This film must be rewatched to fully understand it because a single viewing will not deliver the message. Overall it is a melancholic story about love, loss, and death. In my opinion, it was a good film even with a scant production budget.
Good Samaritan (2020)
Forced and cliché
Do not get me wrong, I sat and watched the entire film without having the desire to turn it off, but what was annoying were the forced jump scares and forced plot. Luckily, the ending was out of the blue, was not expecting it to take that turn. Characters were shallow, but they served their purpose.
Tonight She Comes (2016)
Interesting
The aura somewhat felt like « It Follows » Some of the time. Other times I didn't know what to think of this. The first act had strong comedic tones, but then jumped into horror. Very gory. Special effects very good.
Uncanny (2015)
Interesting...give it a go
Ex Machina is one favourite movie of mine and the similarities are evident. Definitely is not at that level, but still a good watch.
Long Weekend (2008)
Decent build, but then...
Firstly, I had an issue with a lot of Jim Caviezel's acting (mostly in the first act), but I powered through it. The characters become more believable toward the second act; however, the character depth was still lacking. It felt as if something was missing and not being said, nonetheless, we get enough to get a semblance of what's going on.
There is some good symbolism; however.
Too many unanswered questions and happenings. Why was the family down the beach killed? Who killed Carla (unless they weapon went off by itself while being in her vicinity)? How'd the dugungo crawl all the way up the hill? Why'd Peter leave Cricket by herself?
This was a painful movie to get through for me. Jim Caviezel's acting was definitely not believable in my opinion. I cringed at a lot of what he said and did; however, Claudia Karvan was a lot more believable.
Joker (2019)
Amazing film!
Joaquin Phoenix gives an incredible performance. He truly brings this character to life in a sympathetic, yet sinister way. The character build up was on point and the ambience of this was felt deeply. The music a created a serene and melancholic atmosphere that was hard to ignore.
