New Amsterdam: Pressure Drop (2021)
Well, I did like it at first....
Though I never liked Max, I can hardly bear to look at his face now, I dislike it so. That quick, fake smile he makes that instantly disappears, OMG. And his wobbling head reminds me of a ball on a stick. Aside from that, he is a horrible father and the daughter would be so much better off with her grandparents in a safe and cozy house, regular hours and her own bedroom where she can entertain her friends instead of with Max and his hyper, scattered life. Now he just wants to up and run off to England? Without a thought to the hospital or his daughter's life? Then there is the utterly unbelievable way he "runs" the hospital. In no way would a board of directors put up with that. He doesn't help people, he just makes a mess. He doesn't listen, he doesn't HEAR. Other people are ranting about his white savior BS so I don't need to get into that, but I still can't get over how he stupidly let a thousand covid shots go to waste. The supposedly rich white people waiting in line - first of all, how does he know they're rich? How does he know that several of them, perfectly good people, might not die of covid because of his selfish, stupid behavior? And even if some of them were rich, how does he know that they might not donate to the hospital and help all the hoards of humans he imagines he will save? We just started season 4 and I'm not sure we'll make it to the end.
Ramy: Uncle Naseem (2020)
Best episode yet
Fabulous study of someone's intense inner struggles. Naseem's fundamental religious indoctrination and his own bigotry fighting full throttle with his very nature and urges - couldn't have been expressed any better than it was. The stress eating said it all. His loneliness and that last scene with the tear running down his face - perfection. This definitely deserves an Emmy! I don't know why it hasn't been more noticed. Excellent writing, acting and direction. I love the episodes in this series in which they concentrate on one character. The ep about Ramy's mother and the Frenchman was also very touching.
Resident Alien (2021)
Just love this show
I so look forward to this show every week. Laugh-out-loud hilarious, perfect twists and surprises and in the most recent one, The Green Glow, an excellent explanation for why Harry's planet would want to wipe out humans.
Grace and Frankie (2015)
Lots of good things about this show, some not so good
I had never liked Jane Fonda but after watching this, I totally appreciate her. I like the characters very much, even hard-to-take Brianna, EXCEPT for Frankie. Watching her behavior in season 5, I can only conclude that she is certifiably manic. There is no other description that fits for her behavior about that asinine promise she posted on Facebook. Also her attitude about Grace's marriage, not kind. Not liking Frankie much anymore. Re Grace's marriage, even though Jane is beautiful in the show, I find it hard to believe that a rich man in his 60s would marry an 80 year old women. But that aside, the whole thing is fun, and Grace & Frankie have done wonders for the image of us older women. Go, girls, keep it up!
Love, Lots of It (2011)
Excellent and moving
I apparently didn't see the story in the same way as the other reviewers here. She sold her soul to the devil for "love" now. Whatever was in those boxes glowed. Why were they wrapped so shabbily? I can only conjecture it was to show the lack of value their original owners placed upon them. The man was in black in a black car and showed disdain for the earth as he kept throwing his used bottles on the ground. He was no guardian angel.
Enterprise: Daedalus (2005)
The episode angered me
We are finally catching up in 2018 by watching all of Enterprise. Some of it is terrible (boring, repetitive lowbrow action) while some is up to old Trek standards. My husband and I have rated Archer as the worse Star Trek captain. Talk about selfish! In this one, risking the entire life of the crew and allowing one of them to die just to please his old family friend who was obviously a nutcase. And refusing to listen to Trip who has proven himself over and over as one of the most trustable people in space! I wanted to personally strangle Archer who, more than half the time, acts like he needs to be put on meds. At least this time, Archer didn't get beaten up - I am really tired of seeing people in this show getting beaten up. Remember how cerebral Picard was? Or how sly Janeway could be? Sigh. Frankly, I don't know how someone as bad as Archer in controlling his childish emotions could even get this far in Star Fleet.
Lost in Space (2018)
The no gun thing is utterly absurd
I pretty much binge-watched it so it did hold my interest, though it soon became exhausting to have no breaks, just endless catastrophes. To me, nothing matches Star Trek series in TV sci-fi and those writers knew how to alternate between high danger and having a cozy drink in the bar. Everyone needs a break now and then, including the viewers. Some other comments: 1. Utterly ridiculous to not have weapons. This is a freakin' OTHER PLANET where obviously, there can be something every other minute that wants to kill/eat you. Also, what's with sending the kids out whenever they like (and again, without a weapon) after you know dinosaurs are walking around? Just because the robot finished off two of them hardly means there aren't a thousand more out there. 2. Wanting to get rid of the robot. WHAT? It can do a zillion fantastic things and if you are kind to it, it is kind to you. 3. Dr. Smith. Please. If you are going to have a psychopath, at least make her have a reason for her ridiculous behavior. If her goal is to survive, then wouldn't it be in her best interests to play along with the crew and make sure they get off the planet instead of constantly and sneakily sabotaging everyone? It's also hard to believe that the woman even lasted a day on the space station without someone noticing she is a total flake. You would think that Mrs. Robinson (I forget her first name) would have had a serious sit-down with her family and made damn sure no one lets the nasty woman out of her closet in the basement! If anyone needed to be pushed off a cliff, it wasn't the robot. 4. What's the deal with using a whole ship for a family of three (the Indian family)? If you need many people to colonize a new planet, why wouldn't you cram more families on or choose families with lots of kids? And 5. Mrs. Robinson. She gets on my nerves. Most of the time I wanted to punch her in the face. Other than that, I was pretty hooked. The kid is totally adorable.
Nyukhach (2013)
Much fun to watch
Great idea and I don't see it as entirely impossible, though possibly only with some kind of enhancement to the body. Being a writer myself, I see more possibilities with the idea than I've seen so far in the show, but then I've only watched four episodes so far. The Sniffer would be able to smell disease in humans like some dogs apparently can. Not only could he use his talent to solve crimes, he could work for doctors and quickly tell what a person has, such as diabetes, kidney disease or various cancers and metabolic imbalances. The show could go in that direction too and turn him into a super House. The guy who plays the main character is perfect, his expressions subtle and though the character is a bit of a snob or maybe it's just that he's too sensitive for normal social life, the actor makes him very likable, at least to me.
