The Twilight Zone: Hocus-Pocus and Frisby (1962)
Mr frisby.....hilariously lovable.
This is for me one of the best episodes of The Twilght Zone. I had to re watch it the night after its first viewing because I enjoyed it so much. The star of the show is Andy Devine famous from all those old cowboys he played,he is brilliant in the role and is supported by a great cast. If your feeling a bit down in the dumps you could do worse than to switch on Hocus Pocus and Frisby and while away a half hour and have a good chuckle to yourself. I love this episode and will be watching it again in the not too far future.................................................. It is episodes like this that make The Twilight Zone watchable for generations old and new.
The Twilight Zone: The Obsolete Man (1961)
Brilliant episode.
I loved this episode not only because it stars the great Burgess Meredith who is one of my all time favourite stars, but the atmosphere it generates and the little guy standing up to the big guy i e government/ corporates etc. A good performance from Fritz Weaver as usual and the way it all turns sour for him i really enjoyed. It sends a message out at the time of the cold war which is as very relevant today regarding oppression of people as we are beginning to see in most of Europe and especially the UK where the government can ride roughshod over its people and treat disabled people not much better than criminals. A round of applause for the obsolete man.
Pillow of Death (1945)
Not a bad little movie at all
I recently purchased the Inner sanctum box set with all 6 of the Inner sanctum movies and was not disappointed at all.I really enjoyed Pillow of Death, OK its a corny title but it had everything in it if you enjoy old dark houses, whodunits, murders in the night etc.Lon chaney gave a decent enough performance in it and was supported by a good cast including the lovely Brenda joyce and the solid J.Edward bromberg i have read a few reviews which slate this film so i watched with trepidation and was pleasantly surprised it is a great little B movie which universal made in the 40's to much credit, it is atmospheric with many twists and turns moving along at a lively pace, i personally didn't find it dull or slow..if you enjoy the old black and white horrors from this period i am sure you wont be disappointed..just watch it with no great expectations and im sure you will see its not as bad as it has been painted. Without giving anything away it will keep you guessing all the way through..enjoy it for what it is.
Thriller: Masquerade (1961)
carradines fantastic as usual
I watched this episode and found the main male actor come honeymooner very very annoying his wife was not much better but just had a better pair of legs than him, she is probably bearable. The atmosphere and filming inside the house and outside was brilliant with the old spooky house and whats going to happen next routine, john carradine and his kinfolk were brilliant and for them alone deserved a nine out of ten but because of the honeymooners i only gave it seven out of ten. It is worth a watch as i did find parts very enjoyable, maybe its me but the lead males laugh and guffawing really got on my nerves. I found that the bats flying around looked better actors than the infuriating john poston.
