Cavegirl (1985)
Not worth it...
Sorry, not a fan. Terrible acting, terrible script, not much of a soundtrack, there's really no reason to watch this movie. Unless you want to see a lot of breasts being gratuitously flashed on the screen. It's not worth the time.
A nerd is transported back in time to the time of cavemen. He meets a girl that looks remarkably like someone out of the 1980's. She is scantily clad, extremely friendly, and starts to hang out with our protagonist. Of course, she has no one else to hang out with, someone so beautiful with a perm and modern makeup.
The entire plot is him trying to get her into bed. That's it. Not much of a cliff-hanger here.
My advice: move along, nothing to see here.
Turn (2014)
Great Series, but not historically accurate
Turn was done very well and it is a series that will grab you. I enjoyed the character development, and the drama throughout the series is very compelling.
The costumes, scenery, and customs of the time as depicted really help to paint a picture of what life was like in Colonial America where one-third of the people were Patriots, one-third were Tories, and one-third were indifferent. It also does not take sides - Patriots and Tories alike are show, in many cases, as both loyal and courageous. Also, the British officers are given equal billings as men of honor as well as brutal butchers. It appears to me that great pains were taken to give each side equal billing, which I feel is appropriate.
However, as a student of American history for over 50 years, I can testify that this series for the most part is not historically accurate. It started off so in season one, but so many things were added in the later seasons that are not factual. It puzzles me as to why they would do that? The list is far too long to put in this review, and some would be spoilers so I would not list those. But here are a few examples: the spy ring did not start in 1777 but actually two years later; Abe's father, Judge Richard Woodhull, was a patriot and not a tory; Abraham did not have a son named Thomas and was unmarried when the ring was started; Peggy Shippen most likely did not have a romantic relationship with John Andre (there is no evidence of that); and Robert Rogers was not as involved in this story as depicted in the series. I hesitate to list more because they would be spoilers. But, trust me, there are many, many discrepancies. That many not bother most people, but I cherish our history and hate to see it changed to make it more "dramatic." Our history is dramatic enough and does not have to be embellish.
I gave it a rating of "5" for the acting, cinematography, and script, but a rating of "0" for historical accuracy. Some of the dialog was true and accurate, but much of it is not. I did not read the book so I do not know if the movie was loyal to it or if the director decided to take liberties with the story line. But, what a shame that they could not make this series reflect our true history more accurately.
Haunted House on Sorority Row (2014)
Awful. Just awful.
This has got to be the worst written, worst acted movie I have ever seen. I've seen better acting at an 8th grade Christmas play. If you like to look at ugly girl's breast, then that's about all it offers. But, trust me, they aren't that nice to look at.
The writing is bad enough - there is no great plot here. The dialog is not very true. But the worst part of this film has to be the acting. They should have gone to acting school. They cannot deliver a line without it looking like it was being fed to them in their ear. It's just a stupid attempt to get people to watch it because there are naked female bodies in it.
There are much, much better options out there. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would. Life is too short to waste watching this film.
She Devil (1957)
Not well done...
I love thrillers from the 1950's, but this one is worth skipping. Poor acting and writing dooms this from the beginning. Too many plot holes to list them all. There are much better ones out there, IMHO.
The Haunted (2018)
Underrated, IMHO
I feel this movie has been harshly criticized. Yes, it is a slow-moving film, but not every movie has to go at a break-neck pace. There is very little foul language (which I applaud), no sex or nudity, and not a lot of violence. There is, however, several good "jump out of your seat" scenes that make this what I would call a good horror movie. Emily, our protagonist, comes across very likeable and believable. The ending is abrupt, but most people will get it if they paid attention throughout the movie. I liked the ending, but I don't want to give it away so I will leave it at that. Watch it and give it a chance.
Circle (2015)
Worst movie I've seen in a long, long time.
I cannot begin to tell you what a waste of time this movie was for me. It was very preachy, non-sensical, immoral, and filled with unnecessary expletives. Whenever writers overuse the F word, it tells me that they don't know how to write. I hated this movie and would recommend not watching it. Poorly written, terrible acting, and a plot filled with holes. For instance, at one point, we learn that no one can see who others are voting for. Yet, there is a scene where a man knows who his neighbor votes for. To me, this looked like a high school student made this movie for a school project. Don't waste your time - there are too many good movies out there. This is a piece of crap.
