Everyone should watch this film. People have criticised it for not offering solutions but that wasn't the aim of the film. It is aimed purely at making people aware of what is happening and for them to do what they think they can to make a difference. It shows us that we just can't go on as we are and we have to make changes. I am old now and I have two young grandchildren and would hope that they can lead a life as full and happy as mine has been but I'm affraid they won't be able to. Are they to be denied the pleasures of having children and grandchildren of their own because of the naked greed and avarice of my generation? Watch this film and think of ways you can help; all the small individual acts add up to the groundswell needed to ensure our species survives.

Absolute Masterpiece!

Get Luc Besson to write a story and then direct it on the screen; get Jean Reno and Gary Oldman to star, throw in a devastating performance from a TWELVE year old Natalie Portman, add a pinch of a bevy of supporting players who are all stars in their own rights and you have the recipe for one of the best films ever made. And the music was superb along with the cinematography: it is one of those films where every frame is an award winning photograph to hang on the wall. If you do get to see it then be warned: set aside a couple oh hours every few months to sit and be re-amazed!

A good idea spoiled by bad acting and direction and the worst continuity goofs I have ever seen. I haven't got time or room to list them all but what about this? The cop fights with the criminal on the roof of a building in the middle of the night. The back up arrives to see the cop bringing the criminal out of the door of the building in the bright sunny daylight!!! Need I say more?

An incredible series: 16 hours long that just flew by in a whirl of brilliant acting and direction. There are times when you laugh out loud and times when you cry. I just hope they think of doing a second series.........please?!
Trial by Netflix.

Sad story but a brilliant film!

This is a great, must see film. You can't fault anything by J M Coetzee and if you put Mark Rylance in the starring role then you are on to a winner. Johnny Depp is good but Mark Rylance is superb; for me the greatest actor alive today. A dark, brooding story that keeps you riveted to the end titles.

A good film about true heroism
23 March 2021
This is a good film about true heroism shown by ordinary ordinary people in the face of pure terror. The end titles told us the fate of the main players; it's just a shame they didn't mention that Klaus Barbie the "Butcher of Lyon", the man responsible for the death of thousands of innocent people, was protected after the war and after being convicted by the French was helped to escape to Bolivia by the Americans because of his fierce anti communist views. He died in his 70s. People should always know the real truth.

Gripping thriller series
22 January 2021
This really is a great series in every way but it would have been so much better if there were English subtitles available! There were Indonesian, Arabic and Korean and of course French subtitles but no English. A lot of of it you could work out but there were long french language dialogues that just went over my head. Notwithstanding this, I was gripped from start to finish.

Simply brilliant!

A fitting tribute to Hilary Mantel's incredible volumes. Every actor fulfills that tribute; every frame is a breathtaking snapshot in the rich tapestry of a turbulent time in English history. I won't even try to say what happens and why it is so good: just watch it and you'll see.
Shoplifters

Thought provoking from beginning to end.

A beautiful and powerful film that leaves you sad and angry at the same time. I would put it up there with my favourites; Cuckoo's Nest, Paris Texas and The Road Home for the range of emotions evoked and that exhausted feeling as the end titles role. Every aspect of the film makers art is superbly portrayed in every frame; the acting, lighting, photography and direction were all superb: it is one of those films where every frame would make a stunning photograph. Without giving anything away I would just say that when it comes to the "family", it's not your genes or the blood in your veins, it's your spirit and the love in your heart.

I loved everything about the first series but I'm so disappointed with this second offering. The first series ended on a real high; Tony was beginning to see what a jerk he was and was pulling himself together to get on with his life, in fact the last episode was so emotionally upbeat and heartwarming. I was looking forward to the new series to see him getting on with his life but it just sees him right back where he started, only worse. And what's with the psychoanalyst and Matt?! You're really stretching it a bit thin there Ricky.
The whole thing almost seems like it's written by someone else in the style of Ricky Gervais.
Sad, but I don't think I'll watch any more.
Brilliant!
