Murder in Coweta County (1983)
Just another vote for "what a great movie".
There are so many good reviews and plot summaries of this film I won't repeat them I just want to add my voice to say I was so impressed when I first watched this film I could not believe it was a made for TV movie. The script (adapted from the book of the same title) is well done, the photography is excellent and the acting is top notch...the entire cast. With such good reviews on all the sites I am amazed that this is only available as a bare bones DVD-R. I guess the quality does not count as much as the quantity of sales. I would love to get a "restored" Blu-ray version with SDH but that is not likely to happen. The picture and sound are very good and it does not show its age like some made for TV movies from the same period. It is in full screen (as that was TV in the 80"s)and I still count it as one of my favorite true crime films. Be warned this is about rural Georgia in 1948 so there is use of the N-word, not excessive but there are some scenes where it shows up, but is necessary to the film.
Chillers: The Day of Reckoning (1990)
Chicken Factory Farm leads to death
I had to keep reminding myself that Sam Fuller co-wrote AND directed this adaption of a Patricia Highsmith (Strangers on a Train, The talented Mr. Ripley, etc) story. As I was watching it it kept screaming "FRENCH" (like Purple Noon). Now I know it was made in France and the actors were French (I believe) as some of the voices are dubbed but it did not seem like a Sam Fuller picture more like some French Alfred Hitchcock wannabe, rife with symbolism and dialog only a Frenchman would consider serious. It is one of four episodes of "Chillers" (American title for the series "Mistress of Darkness") on a DVD featuring Patricia Highsmith stories which deal with everyday people being drawn into life and death situations, reminiscent of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". I found it hard to take this one seriously. Each episode runs 50 +/- Min. Other episodes of the series (I have found 12on 3 DVDs)were stretched to fill the time and should have been 30 Min. long, as an hour show they drag. This one, to me, just seemed to be not worth watching.
