John Carter (2012)
Absolutely fabulous!
I find it amazing and not just a little depressing that so many "reviewers" here hate this movie. I won't waste anyone's time by going into the details like so many here do. I will just sum this up as briefly as I can: SEE THIS MOVIE!! It is awesome. Period.
I really wish more people had ignored the idiots who trashed this movie when it came out because "it only made $30 million it's opening weekend so it is destined to be a flop" Really?? This is a great movie by all standards!
I even read some reviews here that complained that "Star Wars already did this" and "Avatar already did this"... Well what the heck do you think inspired those movies? It sure wasn't "The Hangover"
Unless you are a pretentious, simpering film critic with an over-inflated ego, you will LOVE this movie. I promise!
Behemoth (2011)
Predictable, but still fun
No surprises here and fun if you play the "Cliché Game": Watch the movie and try to count the clichés. 1 point for standard cliché, 5 points for ridiculous. I lost count after about 500 points.
This is pretty much standard made-for-TV movie fare. With the predictable moments fighting it out with the ridiculous moments for top prize.
One of my favorite "what the BLEEP" moments was when the Sheriff finally decides to believe the "experts" and evacuate the town all he says to the townsfolk is, "Grab your stuff and get out of town!" Since the town is so small, "out of town" is about 200 yards away. Not a lot of help...
The actors do their best with a horrible script but, as another reviewer stated, the women for the most part stand there screaming, "What's happening!!" over and over. There is a character named Zoe that you really want to slap repeatedly after 2 or 3 scenes...
Watch this for an excellent lesson on how to make a really bad movie!
2012 (2009)
The BEST End-of-World movie ever!
After reading a lot of the reviews here I'm amazed at how many people missed the point entirely! This is an end-of-world "blockbuster" of a movie. As such, it is without a doubt the best one ever filmed! Those of you who snub movies based on lack of compelling drama or intricate character development will not like this movie. Those of us who LOVE a fantastic action-adventure-epic "everything goes boom" kind of movie will see this again and again.
See this movie at the theater if you want to be completely amazed at stunning visuals and fantastic scenes of mayhem and destruction. Don't see this movie if you are interested in only pretentious social commentary or compelling dramatic content.
Thoroughly entertaining!! Bravo Mr. Emmerich!!!
The Fog (2005)
Not quite the "worst"
Just saw this movie for free, I borrowed it from a friend. I would have to say it's definitely not the worst movie I've ever seen, (for that, see "Mutant" with Wings Hauser) but it comes very close. I was hoping for something better than the John Carpenter original but was very disappointed.
To sum up the bad things:
Bad writing, directing, acting (with the possible exception of Tom Welling.. he was good), editing, plot, casting, continuity... hmmm, everything else was OK.
The good things:
Music. Graeme Revelle (one of the best underrated movie composers) does a good enough job but the tension never really builds. He most likely needed a bigger budget for music to do it justice.
If you want an OK movie for your younger children to spook them a little, but in no way scare them in the slightest, this is for you. Otherwise your 100 minutes would be better spent elsewhere. Anywhere... (By the way, I saw the "Unrated" version hoping that would spark it up a bit, but the Disney Channel could show the full unrated version with maybe 4-5 words edited out).
