Too much......
11 December 2021
A great story and a good idea of how to tell it. Feels historically accurate if a little graphic. The main problem I have is the swearing. It's almost constant and quite frankly unnecessary. Did they actually speak like it? I think not and there is no need ever to use the c word in what purports to be a documentary. Should have guessed by the title.

Stereotypical cliche

Well made and thought provoking but with every cliche and stereotype thrown in. Not for the intellectual but good switch off TV.

Good premise but why spoil by use of women stereotypes?

Some spot on acting right from the start and a good idea, if not totally original, it works well with all characters seamlessly fitting their roles. However, why the naked wo.wn scene was needed us beyond me? A woman who has just had a baby would not act like that surely? Why O why do screenwriters look for opportunities to display perfect naked female figures? Damaging to young women who get an impossible role to follow and setting back the Me2 movement. If it wasn't for that I would have given a higher score. I will watch because of the promise and despite the irresponsibleness.

OK reboot

I am quite enjoying this reworked adaptation but only quite. The scenery is spectacular, the actors play the parts with enthusiasm especially Samuel West, the music fits perfectly. The setting of 1930's Yorkshire is recreated well if not perfectly, What us not so good is the writing, which is weak. I want to feel empathy with the characters, but it is hard the way it is written and it seems that the adaptation has changed the book to update it for the 2020s. I don't think you should do that with an autobiography. The original story is honestxand heartfelt; this version not so. That said, it is watchable.

It's not elementary Watson!

Most if it has been said. I actually like the show, you don't have to think too much and can easily solve the murder, often before the leads. It is far too formulaic though. I have started counting how many 'new' pristine outfits the young detective wears each episode - not seen the same one twice yet. It also does a dis- service to us girls; those of us over 30 who will never get into a size 8( UK) again or who can never be film perfect. And by the way, not all males are inept as this show tries to tell us. If it concentrates on the story and stoped being so PC, it could be good, the potential is there but sadly I can't see the signs yet. A case of trying too hard.
