The Human Race (2013)
Time not at all wasted!
Spoiler Alert!!! Spoiler Alert!!!
I gave it a seven; honestly people on IMDb have become so cynical lately. True, some movies deserve their ire, but when it is obvious that someone is doing their best with what they have and Still managing to do a good job...?
I loved the smooth editing on the action shots and running scenes and I thought that the death scenes were awesome especially the baby! And I think that people just snatched up like this would probably act a lot like these did, especially the dark turn that it all began to take, when some tried to take advantage of the situation.
Even the rather open ended way that the film finished was totally believable for the situation..
We need more non cookie-cutter movies like these, Hollywood needs to stop regurgitating plots from the past and look for directors with fresh takes on scenarios, like this one...
In the past the only way that I could see a movie with some real imagination was with the odd Indie movie or...the Japanese! Japan is famous for making the weirdest, most entertaining movies ("Ichi the Killer", "Three...Extremes", "Suicide Club", "Dumplings", etc.).
In closing, see the movie..then make up your own mind...
Eat (2014)
You have Got to see this; do not listen to the others!
Spoiler Alert!! Spoiler Alert!!
There, that being said; I loved this movie! It is so hard nowadays for a movie to even hold my attention; I guess this is the fate of people who have watched movies as long as I have (I am in my fifties). But during this...I never once left the room to go get a drink or a snack; I was entranced.
First of all, the characters all just fit together very well, the doctor, Novella, and her crazy protective friend...I mean, how did they Find these people?
The star often amazed me by how much she looked and acted so much like Scarlett Johansson, her crazy friend was both attractive and crazy, but obviously in love with Novella, I mean it all just came together so well! Even the doctor looked like some famous actor that I have seen, his name is on the tip of my tongue..
And the thing that caused most to condemn the film is actually why I love it so...the pure Indie quality; you never know what to expect! Yes it doesn't "flow" as smoothly as Hollywood norm, but that gives it more edge and more room to stand out and be special, sort of like "Choke", "American Mary", "The Signal (2007)", "the Ruins", and others...
Triple Dog (2010)
A great movie, well acted, with some Amazing talent....
The thing is, if you go to IMDb (Internet Movie Database), the definitive movie site for All movies, you will see Many negative reviews for this movie. This is because with a title like Triple Dog (I Triple Dog Dare You), you tend to expect content along the lines of "Saw" meets "Mean Girls".
But actually it was just a Very well acted coming of age movie; the "Dares" were all really rather lame, but they all monumentally contributed to the film's continuity and meaning, and established what was important throughout, that is, "what Really happened to Stacey St. Clair"....
I Highly recommend this movie!...
Alien Resurrection (1997)
This was the best of the entire series!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, right up there with Hannibal, Titanic, Troy, and Black Hawk Down. I think the idea of *Spoiler Alert!* actually having Ripley "Become" one of the Aliens, so to speak, was brilliant, sort of like that thing where Blade is "sort of" a vampire, with all their strengths, etc. I loved Winona's role, that was also supercool, and the best line in the movie, and one I have added to my "favorite lines" list, is when Ripley, upon discovering that *Spoiler Alert!* Winona is an android, says, "I knew it! YOu were much too humane to be human". If you haven't seen it yet, run over to Blockbuster, and do so...
An American Vampire Story (1997)
not as bad a movie as some others seem to think
Don't be too hard on this movie. I myself have also seen many, many movies, both foreign and otherwise, and this was Not a bad movie. When you have seen bad actors in a graveyard, trying to re-incarnate a "dead man" who is some extra wearing a badly fitting dirt-covered mask, then being chased by a flying "alien" baby, which is obviously a doll being suspended from a wire making badly recorded backward-tape sounds, ThEn you have seen a truly bad movie (I forget what the name of it was). The key to ThIs movie is to see it for what it could have been, and not for what it is. And, also, to ignore the camera booms which appear in almost every scene. That was the fault probably of an overly tired camera boom guy, and an obviously comatose editor. The director, however, was actually pretty good, the music for each scene fit perfectly, the acting was kinda good, and the special effects were pretty good. And sometimes they even poked fun at themselves. And as for Adam West, if you have seen his Other acting projects, you would know that this is actually some pretty good acting on his part, the best hands down he has ever done. (My way of saying that this director milked the best possible performance from this guy that he is actually capable of giving)...
The girls all looked GrEaT, and acted really well. The makers of this movie were unfathomably jealous of their obviously PG rating, and went to bible-belt-esque pains to retain it; (there could have been more screen acreage devoted to traditionally hot vampire sex moments), but I find it hard to hold that against them too much, it made the movie capable of being watched by kids, and we certainly need more of those...
