It Waits (2005)
Not your average forest ranger romance.
Easily one of the top ten forest ranger horror/romance/buddy parrot movies of all time, hands down. Steamy. Scary. Tragedy. Triumph. It has it all, + a monster.
Pig (2021)
Surprisingly good
So good. Rich in the terroir of the land and the life of the characters. Mellow overall but rich in character and belief; like an acoustic version of John Wick with deeper roots.
The Pond (2021)
Lots of visuals no plot
My theory: Somebody had a bunch of ideas for horror movie visuals and tried to string them all together without really coming up with a story. It's too bad, the trailer looked pretty amazing.
Brightburn (2019)
Great trailers
The movie doesn't explore much beyond what's shown in the trailers. I was stoked, I thought it looked awesome; I was disappointed that it didn't seem to get the attention it needed to really take off.
The quality was good, just really basic; superficial. No style or atmosphere like I was hoping for from a good horror movie, just a basic plot, characters, 90 minutes long.
Halloween (2018)
"Halloween" with identity politics
Complete garbage. Lots of minorities, strong women, weak men falling over themselves to allow angry women to lead the way, a boy who spends the majority of his 3 minutes screen time protesting his hillbilly dad's attempts to take him from his passion of dancing and force him to participate in cis-gender activities like hunting instead, and a totally brainless plot with nothing new or even barely interesting to add to the series. A masterpiece of liberal fantasy for sure, but at the same time proving that even at their best, liberal identity politics ruin everything.
