Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! (2013)
Oh Imran, i am so sorry for you
Yes i saw the trailers and yet i went to this movie, i knew how the movie will be. It was a treat from my friend so i went anyway and my friends are big fans of Bollywood movies, Hence GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN.
I am sorry to say this but Imran you don't have what it takes to be the leading man in the movie. I remember seeing your movie JAANEY TU YA JAANEY NA that movie was plain awesome and so far i remember you solely for that movie. When i see him on the screen acting i don't see him loosened up he always seem to be in his reservation, i never saw him loosing himself in the character. He seems uncomfortable and tight just like his dancing, i really don't care for the actors who don't know dancing but they should be able to act. I don't believe a word of it when media says that imran is very closely mentored by amir, if he is mentoring him then he must be conspiring his Bollywood exit. Jaane tu ya jaane na was a romantic comedy and it clicked and imran very smartly did not want to associate himself with one genre of movie and moved on to do serious and different roles which he failed at, whether its bad luck or he is not talented enough. Eventually he came back to doing Romantic comedies and after his back to back flops he has delivered yet again a flop movie and i feel its time that imran accept and move on from his acting career. Its unfair to see him getting offers with big banners and opposite big heroines in spite of delivering back to back flops, everyday talent is exploding with new comers entry into Bollywood if only producers give them a chance rather than casting actors upon influence.
Sorry about my Ranting for Imran, now coming to the movie. Film started on a good note but lost its track in the second half, the concept was fresh but the story was about a boy and girl from different communities and their disapproving families(Nothing new here) in spite of Imran's average acting i liked the first half of the movie as it was paced. But right after the intermission it just went down and down, director and writers just realized in the middle of the movie that they can deliver a social message on a much bigger subject rather than a romance story and then they just turned the movie in to completely different direction and forced us to watch a much much dramatic second half. I was embarrassed to sit in the theater to watch such level of drama, the scenes were so melodramatic i felt pity for the actors that they had to go through that . I felt if you wanted to make such a movie why not make two different movies each dealing with individual topics rather than confusing and boring the audience and making them pray for the movie to end. I am sure when they sat down to write the story they might have though to themselves that they found the love story of this year but it wasn't it. the directors vision just did not reflect in the movie.
Kareena is drop dead gorgeous in this movie and she is a marvelous actress but sad to see her doing such a movie that to with an amateur Imran, this is the story of actresses in Bollywood. Talented actress have no choice but to work opposite young and talent less actors. actors such as the kings, badshaahs of the Bollywood will only work opposite young and fresh faces (Disgusting). I give this movie 4 stars solely for kareena and for the first half of the movie. The music of the movie is forgetful and i was not blown away with the cinematography or anything. Humor is very dull and i don't even remember supporting cast's performance. I will not stop you from watching this movie, do watch it if you like too much of drama.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Funny, catchy music and beautifully shot. I am sold !!
When the trumpet started playing of the Badtameez Dil song in the trailer, i knew the movie is going to be exciting like wise. Normally movie do not do justice to the trailers but YJHD was an exception, i was hoping for the movie to loose its track and go in a wrong direction midway but it never did. I was entertained through out the movie, i do agree that the ending was prolonged a bit but i have seen disasters before so i overlooked it and saw this movie 4 Times.
Music in this movie was just top class and fresh, when the movie opened with a melodious kabira song with all the wedding theme it looked so beautiful to the eyes. I easily felt comfortable with the movie already, i don't really get the hate this movie has received. Ranbeer acts naturally as ever, deepika looks stunning even in a Geeky avatar and the supporting cast Kalki and Aditya does more than justice to their roles and contributes to the film as equally as the main lead. The first half of the movie is excellently paced and Balam Pichkari is my favorite Holi number of all time; so colorfully shot. Ranbeer's character is a very interesting one and he does reflect our youth culture, yes we refuse to follow the same path, do as we are told and born and die in the same place. In some way his character is inspiring, little selfish of course but the guy wants what he wants. He can undeniably lead a movie and does justice to his role, i mean who can pull off an entry like the one he did post Interval in the "Badtameez Dil" song. Second half of the movie is lengthy and the pace gets slow which i feel was required, very few movies can make you like the second half and specially make you laugh. So YJHD was a winner in that, i just cant get enough of the movie's cinematography. Its just beautifully shot be it Manali or Udaypur, its good to see India so beautiful.
I may get lot of disagreements or hate but this movie is one of the coolest movies of 2013, I am a big fan of the YJHD's music. Ayan mukherji has done a great job and finally delivering a commercial movie like this after Swades and Wake up sid shows his versatility. Thumbs up to Actors performances, thumbs up to the music and of course the director. Hope to see such pleasant for the eyes and soul movies in future, definitely a must watch and a collectible.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013)
Romeo and Juliet is the Greatest love story ever !! Ram Leela was nowhere near it
I think we all knew what we were getting into for all of you who are complaining about the movie, we have witnessed previous works of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and trailers pretty much gave us an idea about G.K.R.R.L.
It is very clearly mentioned in the beginning of the movie that the story is an modern adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". When it comes to S.L.B movies it is all about Huge sets, great music, good actors and a long run time. However G.K.R.R.L has slight changes it is roughly 150 Minutes but seems longer due to the slow story, it has good actors but their potential wasn't used enough, the music is forgetful and i guess we have seen some great sets in his previous movies so G.K.R.R.L sets look average.
Romeo and Juliet is a great romantic story ever, any one can make a good movie out of this story; but what the story needs is the intensity and passion which lacked in G.K.R.R.L. Ranveer and deepika seemed high on drugs while doing their romantic scenes , chemistry between them seemed more lustful than passionate. Of course SLB wanted the heat between the actors to show the audience a strong bond between them instead it looked cheap. SLB might defend this point by saying as the story is set in the modern times hence the fast forward romance, trust me young people in this age do not act like horny teenagers at least people in the serious relationships, it just seemed so stupid and UN-real the way Ram and Leela fall for each other. I had to write this in double quotes so yeah "SLB should have spent some couple of scenes on the RAM - Leela budding romance story, at least by keeping Indian audience in mind" anyways moving on the songs in the movie were so situation less and the way the dances were choreographed felt it meant for small children. However acting by supporting cast was much better specially "Richa Chadda" she stands out and delivers a strong performance, Gujarati culture did reflect in the movie and i laughed here and there on a joke or two. I was bored while watching the first half and was wondering whether we do not have an intermission in between (AS this is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet "PUN INTENDED") much to my misery there was an interval and left me wondering how will i sit through the next half, however movie did drag till the end with the actors getting more and more confused with there characters. I felt Deepika knew what she was doing and was acting like a typical SLB's movie heroine. Ranveer seemed completely lost after the first half of the movie, i was confused whether he is playing a good guy or the bad guy i feel ranveer can pull the comedy roles better than the serious roles.
After a dragging story it came to an end. No surprises there as how the movie ends, i guess SLB was trying to give us all a message ? or was trying to show a great love story or was just trying to entertain the audience. In my opinion none of them were delivered i am not saying the movie is UN watchable or something but Romeo and Juliet is the God of love stories it should make us cry out of emotion not out of pain or boredom. Well again i am not terming the movie as worse, trust me i have seen some worse movies, i feel when talented actors, a vintage director and a big budget meet. The movie should stay in our minds it should not be forgetful as this its just waste of money and time for so many people. Now that said i rate the movie 4 out of 10 for the beautiful screenplay and acting of the supporting cast and also for Deepika. I wont tell you to save your money and time by not watching it, but yes may be what you are looking for is not in this movie. Trust me it isn't !!
Khiladi 786 (2012)
Its high time Bollywood takes its audience seriously
In spite of witnessing recently released classic Akshay Kumar flops ( Tees Maar Khan , Joker ) i still went for this movie remembering Akshay's old action flicks (Khiladi, Khiladiyon ka .....) hoping to see Akshay in a serious yet a comic role. I realized my mistake 15 minutes in to the movie.
Making funny faces, speaking in a funny tone and funny character names does not make audiences laugh. Using a concept which was tried tested and horribly failed at makes the movie even more boring,if i could recall i hardly laughed that too at the stupidity of the film makers that how could they even think that this stuff will sell ? to defend their faults they will title it 'Mindless Comedy' there's no such thing as mindless comedies we pay good amount of money for purchasing a movie ticket and we deserve an intelligent script, lately film makers are making such movies and calling them comedies and changing the audience perception about comedy movies. Where are the movies like "3 Idiots , Dhamaal , Hera Pheri , and the legend 'Andaaz Apna Apna' those movies are called as comedies they were intelligently funny.
I really wouldn't suggest this movie to any one, and there isn't anything worth reviewing in this movie. I felt insulted and stupid going for this movie, and would want our film makers to stop treating audiences as foolish as their movies, and work a little bit harder when they are writing scripts and stories.
I rate this movie 3 because of the effort of 100's of people put in to this movie even though it was horrible and also for its music ( though i am sure it must have been copied from somewhere, still two numbers in this movie are catchy remaining songs like Saari , Saari Raath made me laugh like crazy though it was meant to be sad or a romantic song Himesh reshmaiyya stooped down to one more level just when we thought that he couldn't be any worse )
If you are looking for a comedy there's nothing new here, i would rather suggest you to rent few Hindi classic comedies and enjoy them instead of making the actors and film makers of this kind rich for free.
Talaash (2012)
Was this Amir Khan Movie ?
Somehow right from the time i saw the first look of Talaash, i wasn't looking forward to see the movie, not because it was not interesting enough because it looked very sad ( I had my own reasons for this) but somehow i went for it anyway.
Unfortunately before i went to the movie i came to know the twist so it literally killed the whole suspense, i never really got a chance to get occupied by the movie or by its story. The twist is quite silly as it unfolds in the end you can enjoy the movie until then but if you know the twist already and watch the movie you cant take this movie seriously, i liked the movie but the story could have been told on a bigger platform as in the suspense or the story was very simple. The crime was not complicated or intelligent, the hype generated about the movie and the caption of the movie "The Truth Lies Within" doesn't do justice. The acting of all the three characters was top notch, good thing the movie run time was short and thankfully the movie wasn't like a typical Bollywood movie.
When i came out of the theater i was regretting a little bit as to why i watched the movie, i started comparing my last movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan with talaash and was hoping that talaash would have been something like it, until next day i saw Khiladi 786. I was glad that movies like Talaash at least exist and was happy that i went for Talaash. I would suggest people to watch this movie at least once, but i would say not to expect too much as we do for every Amir Khan movie. Its not of that magnitude but yes much much better than Khiladi 786
Heroine (2012)
Disappoints all the way to the end
I admired Madhur Bhandarkar's work in Fashion, that movie had the flair right from the beginning till the end. Everything was just right on place, with high hopes and confidence that i will witness something fashion like cinema i bought the ticket for Heroine ! ! 15 minutes into the movie i felt cheated.
The beginning of the movie itself was confusing, i am sure Madhur wanted to try something new this time. Rather than repeating his same old formula of showing his character's life right from the beginning. When you are telling a story there has to be a beginning and there has to be an End, and what an end it was. He just rushed through the ending, in fact he just rushed through the entire movie. He kept his mandatory elements in the movie ... Smoking , Booze , Gays , Lesbians , Bisexuals and this time "Spoiler Alert" even cursing (which did not help the movie in any way).
I was unable to understand what madhur tried to portray in this movie ? that Movie stars are desperate and can go to any level for fame ? or they are way too emotional and lonely among thousands of people ? or they are horny all the time ? Sad thing is , he showed all the actors in the movie who played "Actors" just the same. Does that mean that there are no inspiring actors in this movie Industry ?? Like Amir Khan , Salman Khan .. The whole kareena kapoor's character was confusing in the movie. I understood Priyanka chopra's character in fashion but i was unable to relate with Kareena's character as to what is that she is. I only felt sad for kareena as to why she did this movie ? I went to this movie hoping i will be witnessing kareena playing a legendary actress role just a modernistic version. All hopes shattered, film had no strength, a very UN catchy music, and the Hoard of his usual caste. The 2 stars for the movie goes to ' Ranveer Shorey ' for his spot on screen presence. Apart from that movie is a mess.
I never crib this so much after a movie but, next time i will do my research and buy a movie ticket.
