Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1979)
Horrible editing
I would have loved to see more of what Bowie was doing, but instead for minutes at a time I was watching dark, blurry footage of girls in the crowd. For an extended scene we watched a girl overdosing, then it finally cut back to the stage where the bassist and guitarist were mid-battle of a shredding contest. Really missed the mark in editing and what we want to see. Certain cameras were whizzing about out of focus and others had a clear shot- so why did the editors ever show the out-of-focus footage over and over again? I don't understand. Bowie was excellent. I would have liked to see him back stage more. I would have liked to see better footage of this show overall- hence the low rating. Bowie and Jeff Beck deserved better.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
There were some things I'd change, and most things I wouldn't.
I do wish they made the entire movie slow, creepy, alluring like the original. In some parts, cheap scares were unnecessarily put in and ruined small chunks of the movie, but for the majority of the film- it was great! It made for a solid sequel to an ultimate classic from a genius writer/ director duo.
Morbius (2022)
Half Bad, Half Fun
Matt Smith's performance is the saving grace of this otherwise mediocre film. Some parts were witty, aesthetic, and fun... others were cliche' and cringy with over-the-top CGI. Hence my low rating. Sony doesn't always bring the quality, but always brings the action. Think mid-2000s Hellboy, Elektra, Daredevil, and later Venom, because Sony has been churning out the same garbage for decades. Some parts were visually and conceptually well done, like how they explained his ability to fly or the fight scenes. I hope to see Smith in more large roles because his ability to be both the comic relief and evil villain simultaneously is incredible.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
It was a lot of fun
Robbie plays a FANTASTIC Harley. She's quirky and quick on her feet. I like how this movie only served as an introduction to the birds of prey. Some scenes had that goofy animated series type of feeling to them. While yes, all of the enemies are men, I never got the vibe that this film was meant to put males down. It simply felt like a fun action movie with a few kickass leads. I had a great time. I'm giving it a 7 because it's definitely only meant to be a fun comic book movie. There's not a lot of depth and a few plot holes that are expected going in. I felt it was worth the money and time. I'm not sure why people hated it so much. I'm convinced they went in the theater already in a bad mood about it. Harley is as quick, powerful, unstable, and cute as ever.
