We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen (2005)
Great band, great movie!
I saw this picture at its world premiere in San Pedro at the historic Warner Grand Theatre on Feb. 25. The place was packed with Minutemen fans, (1500 seats, and it sold out!) and everyone was waiting to see if the filmmakers had done the band justice. We had nothing to worry about, because this is an awesome documentary! The selection of interviewees, the great archival performance and band interview footage, and editing which contributed to a coherent chronological storyline all came together to make this a definitely superior doc! If you don't know that the Minutemen were one of the greatest bands ever, you should see this film and be converted!

Look out for the RoboKill! (minor spoiler?)
My friend Nicholas rented this based on the title alone, but we were not disappointed. It seems like it is going to be a standard slasher, but it sorta changes gears near the end. The title was rather more accurate than I'd hoped; I was looking forward to some robokilling actually in the disco Layla, but true to the title all the robokilling really was beneath it. Watch for the Keith Haring-esquire mural... of death! I'll admit I fell asleep and missed a few minutes near the end, but that's what I get for watching a movie at 2am after all that thanksgiving turkey.
P.S. Don't miss the great neon sign at the disco Layla, it's stainless steel and neon in Arabic and English (in Japan, of course).
