Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Poor Harry Potter. Poor J.K. Rowling.
Don't get me wrong: I absolutely loved J.K. Rowlings books about the little orphan boy trying to accept his past and his future in a ruff world coated with magic. It is probably exactly that; the care and detail in which Rowling describes her characters, their emotional world and experiences, which have made even the grown ups standing in line for each new Potter release. Naturally it is not easy to reflect the incredibly detailed books in an approx. 2 hours length film. Despite this the first and second movie managed to capture the enchantment the concerning books mediated and the viewers were plunged into the dreams and hopes of Harry Potter and his friends and their adventures in a wizard society located in a muggles world. The third movie reflected the growing pains of HP and the other main characters, which are really the main issue in Rowlings books, very well and managed to spellbind the audience once again. The little children had given way to the young adults they where bound to grow into facing the world as it is, magic or no magic. Still, the movie, and the book, contained a great portion of humor and made it real treat for the public.
But then something happened. With the fourth movie the spell was slowly loosing grip of the audience. Harry Potter was turning into a big time production with a hissing number of special effects smothering the actual story. Suddenly it became all about 'Adventure' and 'Action' and the movie showed uncomfortable similarities like any other big 'young audience' production such as the slaughtered new version of Narnia.
The fifth and latest movie added 'Epic' to its vocabulary. With it, the final bits of magic are diminished to expensive special effects and fast scene cuts. The initial depth of the characters, and thus the story, has now completely vanished, leaving an empty superficial and completely uninteresting shell called 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'. Be ware, might you not have read the actual book, the huge gaps in the movie's story line, because of the o so bad editing, will leave you completely confused and disorientated after less than ten minutes and initiate a frustration for the rest of this 'Action slash Adventure' flick, filled with special effects and combined with 'Epic' scenes and camera slides failing to capture the public.
Both J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter deserve better than this evil treatment of Mr. Yates.
Mysterious Ways (2000)
This show totally sucks...
OK, lets face it, if you're not a humble, faithful (and probably voting republican) American, craving to be choked on continuous moral lessons so obvious and predictable, I strongly advice you to skip this crappy non-original TV-show.
Actually I think u would do more good in church or read the story's in the good book; they're way better in a moral sense and offer at least some excitement so your brain gets activated.
This show is a total waste of time ánd money and I can only applaud it got cancelled, it was the only right thing to do. So to all of you out there who claim this show is great; get real, get a life and use your spare time in a better way
Torchwood (2006)
Corny and cute but never embarrassing
I would describe this Sci-Fi show as incredibly corny and cute. For a strange reason though it never gets really embarrassing even though some of the episodes use such obvious story-lines that not much is left to the imagination of the viewer. Indeed it rather feels like a fresh gust of wind after all the American crap available today. This could be because of the actors involved; their performances is way above the ordinary usually presented in this kind of shows. They are believable in how they put down their characters and it is obvious they have fun in doing what they're doing. The show even manages to actually be exciting and thrilling here and there, despite its sugary-sweet and sometimes o-so-obvious story lines. I can nothing but recommend it; give it a try and have fun!
Supernova (2000)
Star Trek Enterprise III ?
This movie would have been great as a "Star Trek" Enterprise III series. James Spader seems to be an excellent but slightly foolish captain and he's convincible in his role. Beside Peter Facinelli, whom really sucked at trying to convince any viewer he's more then just a weak, if not bad, actor, the other actors performed rather well. As said, if the movie would have been a part of the Star Trek chronicles that is.... As a SF/Thriller though, as which the film has been categorized, this movie is silly, slightly pathetic in a way and incredibly stupid. As a SF/Thriller the actors take themselves way to serious and the whole thing gets rather sad, then again, it ain't that bad if you don't have Thriller demands;
