Fantasia 2000 (1999)

60 years

At the start of the new millennium the Fantasia sequel was released.

I remember seeing this in the Berlin Cinemaxx.

This sequel includes the rerun of the Sorcerers Apprentice.

Also some new stories.

Like flying whales that gives the movie an epic start.

Including a look back at old New York.

So, here are something for everybody.

But, it was one of the many Disney sequels that laid forgotten.

Despite the rushed running time the movie, and it's not for everybody Fantasia 2000 has some outstanding animation, humor and heart.

Gone Girl (2014)

Cinched !!!
19 November 2021
Just watched this with my movie theatre-working friend, his sister, and her husband. We were all enthralled watching this drama-thriller about a man whose wife had disappeared and the revelations about them both. Ben Affleck is the star with nice supporting turns by Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry (yes, the guy who's usually known as Medea!), Carrie Coon, Casey Wilson, and many others. However, the most compelling performance is from Rosamond Pike. I remember liking her as a Bond girl in Die Another Day but here, she's really on fire if you know what I mean! All I'll say now is you may or not be surprised by the twists and turns that happen in this film but you won't be bored, that's for sure! David Fincher has done it again! So on that note, I highly recommend Gone Girl.

Panic Room (2002)

Non stop
19 November 2021
Panic Room gives a hiding place a new meaning, where a divorced woman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter (Kristen Stewart) take refuge in a safe room inside their house to hide from three thieves, who are searching for a missing fortune.

You've all experience the thrills and excitement when you're in your hiding spot while playing a game of hide-and-seek. This movie takes that definition of a hiding place to an entire new level, as it is fingernail-biting to see the protagonists shield themselves in a safe room from the antagonists, attempting to protect themselves from harm and, at the same time, trying to figure out what the bad guys want.

Filmed with non-stop thrills, action and adventure, this crime thriller will surely give you an edge-of-your-seat entertainment, save from some lame acting moments.

Se7en (1995)

Rarely there has been a movie with such a good dark and chilling atmosphere. I even see this movie more as an horror movie than as a thriller because of that. "Se7en" is unique in many ways. The movies mood is already set right from the beginning on. The movie starts dark, intense, chilling and mysterious, a mood that is present throughout the entire movie. It's very depressing to watch and I mean that in a positive way of the meaning of the word. The mood is set by good camera work and lighting, or better said, the lack of it. The music from acclaimed composer Howard Shore also adds to the chilling atmosphere. Unlike many other movies from the same genre, the movie is slow paced and takes it time to develop the characters without falling into some obvious cliché's. The two main characters played by Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are presented as an unlikely police-couple that are different in many ways from each other but in a way that is also what makes them such a great couple. Brad Pitt for once has the opportunity to play more than just the pretty boy and he does it with success. Kevin Spacey truly plays a bone chilling character, almost just as legendary and chilling as Hannibal Lecter. I would very much like to see the two of them put in the same room, just to see who would make it out alive. Further more it was great to see R. Lee Emrey again as the police captain. The movie is filled with some truly gross, sickening and horrifying scene's, this seriously ain't no kids stuff! The movie has some of the most sickening murders I have ever seen featured in a movie. But it aren't just only the gross scene's that are good, there are also some scene's that are made with lot's of beauty and profession such as the library scene. Dark and chilling movie that you will never forget also thanks to the ending which I will not spoil for you. A real must see. 10/10.

Realistic
19 November 2021
I am a fan of Stanley Kubrick's films but this is not one of my favorites. He follows marine soldiers from boot camp on Parris Island where they are dehumanized and demoralized all at once. The marines go to fight in Vietnam where they find themselves an unwanted presence. Matthew Modine plays a soldier and a reporter for the Stars and Stripes newspaper. Modine gives a terrific performance about a man disillusioned with war. Kubrick is a perfectionist and a realist. This film is crude, honest, candid, brutal, and realistic. It is an anti-war film anyway. I still don't understand the ending. The war scenes are realistic and violent all at once.

Film is a Visual Medium, this thriller is a fine example
30 October 2021
The Europeans have a knack of gripping you in films about lonely disconnected characters who are suffering some sort of crisis who then emerge from ashes of some sort of grief and then seek revenge and it usually takes place slowly and VISUALLY and this is a fine example of that.

Telling a story in pictures seems to be something American film makers have forgotten, they are riddled with tons and tons of dialogue, Irving the explainer film making.

In this film you are given the info and you put the pieces together yourself, treating the audience with respect in that they have some intelligence.

The whole dream thing did occur to me but I continued watching, that shot of the beach at the end could be heaven or it could be just a shot of a beach.
