Merlin's Apprentice (2006)
Disappointing
After the first Merlin mini-series (which got showered with nominations and what not) I thought that Merlin II was going to be great as well.
I was wrong.
Not only are we left with a lot of questions, things could also have been explained more (the Forest scene with Brianna, Jack, Graham and Yvonne for example and the Lady of the Lake... she puzzled me, compared to the first Merlin mini-series), and some should have been completely left out (the kissing scene between Graham and Yvonne and Jack and Brianna... it was... odd and it really didn't fit in the time period.) The special effects were so/so.
The acting was terrible, even by veteran actor Sam Neill, who didn't seem to have fun with this movie, like he had with the first Merlin one.
And even though John Reardon (Jack) is a pretty boy, he had some strong points in this movie, but he was a total let down otherwise.
One (2001)
Pretty... confusing and beautiful
I've seen short movies that are more clear, where it's obvious where it's about. "One" is not one of those movies. If you don't want to be left hanging wondering about the theme, then don't watch it.
I liked it. The message came across pretty good and I think that the director and writer intentionally did this. You have to think for yourself. Your own meaning behind this movie, your feelings, your ideas.
Drew Fuller is great. I only knew him from Charmed and I recently started to collect other stuff from him so I am really looking forward for the rest of the movies of him to see it!
Trinity (2003)
I want more!
Movies like this... I don't know. Usually I don't watch this kind of movies (ahem... I have a few more odd movies in my collection), except when an actor that I like is in it. Just like this one. Tom McCamus is a very talented actor, and in a few weeks of hanging around on the internet with Tom McCamus fans, it's hard not to become one yourself. So, I'm game.
They say that this is the movie that got Tom McCamus his role as Mason Eckhart in Mutant X. Tom McCamus plays Dr. Clerval. According to me a mixture of Adam Kane (because of his arrogance) and Mason Eckhart (just.. the voice, the glare, the movements... wow).
The lightning is great, the acting is magnificent, especially by Tom McCamus. That man can do a lot with just one look or the tone of his voice. The 2 other actors, Lucy Akhurst and Stephen Moyer are so and so. Stephen Moyer's character is just... annoying and Lucy Akhurst plays the role of the tormented and lost Schiller well. The soundtrack is neat, and the movie shows that you can do a lot with one subject only.
It got me on the edge of my seat all the time. I loved it.
The weird thing is that the movie hasn't been released on DVD overseas, but in a small country like Holland (and Belgium). (Come on Fireworks! Release it already the proper way!)
Another Day in Paradise (1998)
shocking, but amazing movie
Soo... I'm a Vincent Kartheiser fan. And I like James Woods... sometimes. I was shocked by the first few minutes where Bobbie (Vincent Kartheiser) gets beaten up and such. I decided not to watch it at night time as I usually do with movies. The whole movie is shocking, with lots of swearing, drugs, alcohol... (and smoking, but I smoke so I am not complaining about that) But I think it's well played by Vincent Kartheiser and that girl, and I've seen better of James Woods and Melanie Griffith. It's a surprising movie. and well, I'm going to see it again! Sure, the camera work looks like it's done by an amateur... But it has a great story and nice environment.
