So Far, So Frasier
16 October 2023
The first two episodes of this show feel like you just found your old favorite, comfortable, sweater, and even though you've gained a few pounds over the years and your life has changed, it still fits as well as it ever did.

This reboot hits all the right notes so far, and the best part of it, besides the cast and writing, is that it doesn't slap on the nostalgia for the original as thick as molasses to choke you with it, much the same way the original didn't with Cheers. There will be moments, to be sure, because that's how life is with things that have come before for us, but honestly the hate I see is undeserved and most likely coming from people who want more of the same that the original provided.

But, just like life, as this art imitates here, it goes on and things change, and if you don't move with it and keep growing and learning, you drown in the past you can never get back.

Great start. I really hope it keeps it up the whole season, and that it's picked up for another.

Too Much Raimi
24 June 2022
Too much Raimi. Way, waaaay too much. Just call it Evil Dead 4, with superheroes. Probably some of the worst CGI I've seen in a Marvel film to date. Xochitl Gomez was the lone shining spot in this film. Too much campy overacting from usually wonderful actors. No wonder Derrickson walked away from making this film; terrible script.

About An Hour & A Half Too Long
27 February 2021
Far too long. Terrible dialog. It's a sequel to 2014's Forbidden Kingdom that completely recycled the plot, except this time it's in China. The visuals are great but the story is all over the place. It feels like they tried to cram three different scripts for three different films into one movie. But then, this is what happens when a Russian filmmaker tries to make a Chinese film with gratuitous international film stars.

An Hilarious Homage To The X-Files, Through The Lens Of Jaded Middle-Ages Gen Xers
1 November 2020
This is the kind of show that has been missing for awhile now. The acting is perfect (Malcolm McDowell steals every scene he's in), the writing feels familiar but fresh, the humor is organic and natural, and if you loved the monster-of-the-week type of episodes, that's what you're going to get, but with its own mythology arc running throughout.

On my second watch already, and it's only been out for two days!

Stunning Visuals, Wonderful Songs, Hilarious and Emotional
23 November 2019
This. This was the sequel I was HOPING for. I was in tears of every variety for the majority of the film. The animation was flawless, the songs were abundant and wonderful (nothing quite as earwormy as Let It Go, though) and the laughter was non-stop.

The character growth was also a treat. I didn't expect that, especially from a character like Olaf.

All the negative reviews I see complain about it either being too dark or all over the place. It was neither. Sure, it had some darkness to it, but so does life, and like most moments in life, their is a shining bright light waiting on the other side, even if it's not the ending I would have expected.

And to those saying it was all over the place? It wasn't, if you bothered to pay attention. But most of you are adults who write off every animated feature as children's fare and don't really care to pay attention. And that is because you've lost the child inside. You've forgotten how to feel joy and excitement and embrace it like you did as a child. You confuse your contentedness with your children's happiness with actual joy and live vicariously through them than embracing what's inside of you and living your own happiness yourself. And for that, I pity you all.

Alien Highway (2019– )
10/10
This review is 10/10. The show? Maybe a -8. 10/10 would smash Heather Toddy, though.
28 July 2019
Exactly what the title of my review says. And maybe recast this with Nick Offerman as Chuck, Jason Sudeikis as Dan, and keep Heather as Heather, because she doesn't have that many speaking lines, so who needs to pay a big name actor? They'd hit the scripted comedy better

How A Zombie Apocalypse Would ACTUALLY Go
6 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, most of these reviewers have either obviously never seen a Jim Jarmusch film or seem to understand this wasn't meant to be some laugh out loud big budget comedy or the same old zombie movie.

This is how a zombie apocalypse would actually occur. There would be no heroes, every normal human who is weird or quirky, angry, or downright boring would be affected, and there would be no happy ending. It would end the way the film does, exactly the way you would expect it to: immediate, bloody, and uneventful. It's just like every day life would be, except with zombies killing you. Boring, routine, ordinary, ends with you going to bed.

This film is a brilliant commentary on not just public consumption, but society in general and the state of entitlement of instant gratification. If you come in looking for THAT, you'll be sorely disappointed. Just enjoy the show.

Don't believe the haters: this is a GREAT origin story
9 March 2019
Haters gonna hate. What a wonderful origin story adaptation that stands alone from the MCU films thus far, except a mid-credits extra scene that ties it to them.

Great 90's soundtrack, funny as hell, and answers quite a few MCU questions that have bothered me for awhile. CGI was great. 2D and 3D equally good watches; nothing lost in the visual translation.

Will definitely be seeing this again!

What A Crap Film
20 February 2019
No originality here, nor many jokes that hit the mark, either. Don't waste your money. If you loved the first one, you're gonna hate this one.

What A Wonderful Film! For The Child In Us ALL
12 February 2019
I remember, as a young boy, loving the stories of King Arthur and other fantasy stories. But what if I, an average kid, suddenly found out one of those stories was true, and not only that...I GOT TO LIVE IT?!!

This film, the second from the wonderfully talented Joe Cornish, instantly evoked that emotion in me. The cast was brilliantly put together and, unlike most films with kids these days, the young actors were actually believable charicatures of children their age, with real depth and emotion portrayed.

Great acting, great action, wonderful addition to the Arthurian mythology, and even though it was two hours long, it didn't feel at all like it, and as the credits rolled, I wished for more.

I laughed, I cried, I cheered. You will too

A Worthy Sequel
11 January 2019
I've seen so many negative reviews here and online that I didn't go watch it until today in the theater.

I was pleasantly surprised. It picks up right after the first film, jumping right into the story assuming everyone present watched the first (and why wouldn't you have? Who goes to a sequel without seeing the precursor?) and doesn't waste time reintroducing characters.

Some complain it's hard to follow and there is too much going on; I disagree. Every supposed sub-plot has the exact same mission and ending: get to Creedence. It all ties nicely together, with a nice little twist at the end.

The visuals, again, are amazing, and the addition of Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore was a brilliant choice in casting.

I recommend this, and will be watching again and again.

Big, Dumb, Fun Prehistoric Shark Summer Film
12 August 2018
Fans of the books, I hear you, but get over it. The movie adaptations are NEVER as good as the books are. Let that go and you'll find yourself enjoying a piece of pure summer action fluff with just the right amount of gore, humor, and decent acting and action sequences. This is what summer popcorn flicks are SUPPOSED to be.

Jason Statham plays a rescue diver who, in the past, loses two of his friends during a mission due to some kind of massive beast destroying a nuclear sub.

Fast forward to now, his ex wife gets trapped at the bottom of the Marianas Trench and he is called upon to go save her.

Enter The Meg.

From here on out, it's just a fun, action packed giant shark flick; it's like Jaws, but more fun.

8/10 only because they didn't make it gorier with human deaths and get that R rating.

Festering, Predictable Turd
5 August 2018
I figured out the ending in the first 15 minutes of the film. What boring dreck from otherwise fantastic actors. Must have been a desperation paycheck kind of film. Don't waste your time

The Lost World: Jurassic Park Pt. 2 (A Festering Turd)
14 July 2018
Half of this movie's plot is ripped from TLW:JP, the other half is an unterrifying camp horror film. Bad CGI all around, over the top performances, the same T-Rex saves the day at the last moment shot (used twice here, no less) with a lot of bad environmentalist ideology that leads to humanity's future being decided by a ridiculous twist that I saw coming a mile away and called early in the movie because of ridiculousness.

Save your money. Go see something else. Take a vacation. Pay your bills. Buy a cat. Just don't waste your time on this.

Most FUN I've had watching all year, and far superior to TLJ
26 May 2018
I just got out of seeing Solo: A Star Wars Story, and this was the most fun I've had at the movies all year (and yes, I've seen Avengers, Deadpool 2, Super Troopers 2, etc.)

THIS FEELS like a Star Wars film, a series I've been a major fan of since I was 3 and saw ROTJ upon original release in theaters. The abomination that was TLJ left me feeling like I wanted to abandon future entries, but I decided to give Solo a shot because Han has always been my favorite character...and it was worth every second of watching.

I will be repeat viewing this tomorrow.

Superior To The First Film
19 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I see lots of reviews complaining Deadpool 2 has no plot, and I have to disagree. If anything, the first really had no plot at all, whereas 2 sets up the plot of the film and the surprisingly heartwarming message of the film, the real meaning of FAMILY throughout.

The early X-Force characters introduced in the film were wasted (quite literally) and Domino wasn't nearly developed enough, which is why I dinged this one star off.

Some complain there isn't enough humor in it. Personally, I think it's the right amount. The first and its 5-jokes-a-minute pace made you miss some of them due to laughter and felt like someone with ADD picked the pace.

Overall, very funny film with a superior plot to the original, exactly enough violence, and a perfect setup to make a full-on X-Force film where Mr. Pool is only ONE of the main characters, not the only star. A complete film that is surprisingly heartwarming.

How Spielberg Got His Groove Back
1 April 2018
I'm not going to spoil anything here, because this film needs to be seen to be enjoyed. This harkens back to the days where a Spielberg film was full of magic and could move you and your inner child, instead of bore you for three hours with a dark period piece where there isn't a happy ending in sight. Sure, it's pure pop escapism, much like The Oasis of the film is, but people need that kind of escape these days from the gruesome reality of the world we live in. So, for two hours and 20 minutes, go escape into a beautifully crafted dream alive on the silver screen, preferably in IMAX 3D if you really want to lose yourself.
