Haunted Highway (2012)
Entertaining
Haunted Highway is a good, fun show to watch. It can be a little too "Blair Witch" in regards to the unstable camera shots. So be careful if you get motion sickness easily. There little to no "spooky music" piped in post production. Of course, there's editing to make the show more interesting, but it's not as bad as some of the other out there. And the fact that there's no gang of camera operators running around with them is a plus not seen on many reality paranormal shows. Jack is a well known person, but I also like that they typically have another group (Jael & Devin from Destination Truth and Fact or Faked - both SYFY shows) that do their own investigation. Also, it's good to see other legends and, to a lesser extent see and learn of other parts of the country and other cultures. I gave it a 7/10 simply because there's room for improvement. But still a good show to watch.
American Horror Story (2011)
Very unique - in a good way
First thing you'll notice about this show is its theme music. It might not make much sense until you've seen an entire episode. Then it makes perfect sense. The acting is good - the characters seem to work well together. Some of it can be easy to figure out, but most of it isn't. The characters are written very well and acted. The wife can be sweet and then minutes later, go a little psycho. You can feel for the dad at times, but mostly you just wonder "what are you thinking?!" And that's what makes it so much fun to watch. Just ensure that you keep youngsters from many of the episodes - it's for adults. A great show during the first season. Season 2 will be very different. I'm not sure it will work, but I'll definitely tune in to see!
Chernobyl Diaries (2012)
Great horror movie
There were a few things I found odd about the movie, but overall, I enjoyed it. The Ppripiyat backdrop looked almost identical to what I've seen on TV. The attention to detail was great. The acting was good. The few actors speaking Russian lent some credibility to the film. There were creepy parts, parts that made you jump and parts that made you laugh. The actors were easy on the eyes, which is always a good thing. I didn't even recognize Jesse McCartney. Nor Nathan Phillips. By far a more enjoyable movie than The Avengers. And at 90 minutes, it wasn't too long nor too short. There's not much more they could have done to "get it right". Great movie. Worth the $10/ticket to see it.
Destination Truth (2007)
Love it
I loved this show from the get go. It just gets better each season. I wait impatiently for the next season every year. Josh is by far the best reason to watch. He's funny, adventurous and down right entertaining. His current crew is relatively new, so there's some "getting to know them time" that's necessary but typically, the crew seems to work well together. The show's not about absolutely finding what they're looking for (although they have found some interesting evidence that gained world-wide attention of the scientific community), but it's about the journey, visiting new places via the TV and interacting with new and different cultures. It's about the adventurous spirit for those who don't have it or the finances to travel the world looking for themselves. By far this is the best SyFy show and the best cable reality show! Those that don't like it probably have a poor sense of humor, adventure and lack the inquisitive nature of the human spirit.
