Flikken (1999–2009)
Don't believe the hype...
19 September 2004
Why do people like this so much? It's just another police show where some actors and actresses play the good and the bad. It's said to be realistic, but what city's got so many murders in a month? The actors (and especially the actresses!) are not that good. Their fans, who know them from "Flikken", are fan because they just like "Flikken". I don't really think people would like Andrea Croonenberghs if she wasn't in "Flikken". The whole show is about here, too, when there are way better actors and actresses in "Flikken". If you like police shows, don't watch this one, but try "Crime Scene Investigation" or even "Luifel en Luifel".

The kids should watch it!
8 August 2004
A famous comic, some famous Flemish names and a lot of promotion. A guaranteed good movie or not…? People said it's a great movie, others say it sucked and IMDb gives it a 5.7. We'll see about that.

Every Flemish citizen and even furthermore everybody knows Suske and Wiske from the comic books. So a movie couldn't last, right? But the first thought that filled my head says: 'What did they do to Stany Crets?' This cute guy, who plays Jerom, opens the film by shouting he's not coming. Stany Crets isn't the only guy they messed up; everybody meet Frank Focketyn, Dirk Roofthooft and Peter van den Begin. But I know, that's supposed to be in this film and after a while you get used to it. It's actually kind off cool to see those big people like that. All dressed up like Willy Vandersteen, who was responsible for the comic books, meant it. The most realistic one is the magician, played by Daan Hugeart. His make-up and clothes are perfect and well, it's the best costume to end with.

The movie starts straight away with mystery and I think that's good. It keeps people awake and alert for what's coming up. This a typical child movie, though. The actors – most of them are supposed to be pretty good – seemed to lost their talents and de special effects aren't always that good, but in the end: children won't mind. I'm sure the like this movie, but the real film fans should watch out: if you wane see a really good Flemish movie, please leave this one for a while, and try something as 'De Zaak Alzheimer'…

Anyway, I enjoyed the film after all. The length of the film is just 1,5h, but that's just long enough not to get bored. The kids should watch it!

I, Robot (2004)
I, love this
7 August 2004
`I,Robot' is the reason people make movies. To create lives and things that probably never really will exist. Who can tell if this will ever happen? Let's hope not, but wouldn't it be great if we could create something to help us, even to be our friend? Who says robot's will never control the world? OK, I know, this is just a movie, but I love they way people play with the future. To create your own world, your own things, cause oh my god, these robot rule! Who created them? Their faces are so not-robot, while the rest of the body is. They made the robot friendly and kind and they made me believe I could even really love a robot like that. With those cute eyes and nice lips. Why couldn't that red light be a heart, the only thing that made you believe those robot's feel. Though, it made them a little scary, like a red traffic light warns you to stop.

The movie was great, the actors amazing and the special effects even a little real. I love the shots, even when Will Smith just opens a door I can smile for the way they filmed and assembled it. It seems difficult to direct this movie, but Alex Proyas did a great job. I, love this.

Feestje (2004)
Party!
26 July 2004
I don't think they could make this movie in Hollywood. No matter who will fill in the cast and crew. Greg Kinnear and Penélope Cruz as main characters and Quentin Tarantino as director, it won't matter. Not even when you would fly Antonie Kamerling and Ruud van Hemert to LA to re-make the film. This is the perfect example of a real Dutch movie. I expected nothing, cause I'm not really Dutch-minded after all, but my god, I love this movie!

The story is about two friends, Ben (Beau van Erven Dorens) and Thijs (Antonie Kamerling), who are only chasing women for sex. Until Ben finds the love of his life and wants to get married. Thijs feels betrayed, but when Ben asks him to be the best men on his wedding, Thijs' got the perfect plan to make his own party...!

I like the story, I like Antonie Kamerling, but I'm not sure about the rest of the cast... There's Beau van Erven Dorens, who's, in my opinion, a really bad actor, and all these familiar faces for those very little parts. Great actors who just play one or two scenes. If it's not less.

I'm not quiet sure about the director either. His movie was great, and I've seen other amazing stuff he made, but somethings I could shoot him. There are, in my opinion, too many mistakes. Just little mistakes, but mistakes I really hate. I don't really know the word in English (cause I'm a Dutch girl with a very low mark for that subject...), but to translate it word to word: director's mistakes. You can see that some scenes took ages to make them perfect. Different haircuts, different clothes...

Anyway, after all I really liked this movie. Maybe I misted the Dutch actors watching only Greg Kinnear-films, maybe it was just Antonie Kamerling's lovely smile, I don't know, but I can guarantee this Dutch movie is worth watching!

The Italian Job: Nothing but action, humour, great music and sexy actors!
4 May 2004
An explosive expert, a computer genius, a premier wheelman and a guy with a plan. All with only one ultimate goal: get the gold from the guy who killed their (spiritual) father.

The movie starts in beautiful Venice, where someone package a silver necklace to send it to America. John Bridger calls with his daughter Stella and after that I fell in love. Mark Wahlberg, as Charlie Croker, comes on stage, naive, contented and with a little smile on his face. Charlie, John and their cast going to steal a safe with many, many gold bar's in it. They don't use weapon's, but that won't be necessary, cause Mark made their plan. Nothing can go wrong, and practically nothing goes wrong.

Up in the mountains the gangsters celebrate their victory with for everyone a bottle champagne and beautiful dreams about women and the perfect live. On the way back home - listen here careful to the music - they laugh about what they did, but they get stopped by guys who knew what the gang was doing. It ends totally wrong. Their gold gets stolen and John gets killed. They end up with nothing but wet clothes and tears...

One year later - Philadelphia

Stella Bridger works as a safe technician. She's happy and contented, but that Charlie Croker comes by to tell her they found the guy who killed her father. Charlie is planning to rob that guy, called Steve Frezelli now, and to steal all his left gold bar's. First Stella doesn't want to help him, but that night, when Charlie and his wheelman-friend Handsome Rob are playing basketball, she calls Charlie to tell him she's in.

Not only Stella and Charlie are in, but also Lyle, a computer genius who really invented Napster, Left-Ear, an explosive expert and Handsome Rob, a premier wheelman are part of the gang. With the newest technology our hero's can do anything they want. They open safe's without a key, making every traffic-light turn red or green and drive with mini-coopers through little subway's.

The Italian Job has got everything a perfect movie needs; a good story, action, humour, great music and good looking, great actors who bring this movie to a good end. The only thing missing is a thrilling love-scene and maybe some real romance, but a little Mark Wahlberg, some Charlize Theron and a few imagination can do miracle's..!

From Hell (2001)
The way I like it
27 April 2004
I never heard of Jack The Ripper, until I saw this movie. I expected a romanticized story, where in the end the two main characters end up like lovers and where the bad guy ends up dead, but I was wrong. The movie starts with a couple of prostitute's, looking for customers. One of them is Mary Kelly, played by Heater Graham, who walked in a lonely and dark street and get hold by one of the Nichols-clan. They want a pound a week from every prostitute, but the prostitute's can't pay some much money. One by one the prostitute's get killed with a knife. Than Johnny Depp comes on stage. He playes Abberline, a goodlooking police inspector who solves crimes by getting stoned. When he smokes opium, he sees images I only saw in a movie where the main character has Alzheimer (in "De Zaak Alzheimer"). But with these images Abberline can predict the future. When you see the movie twice or even more, you'll see that the killer Abberline is looking for, Jack The Ripper, is filmed in the beginning already. I always thought that Jack The Ripper was a cruel and lonely man, but in the beginning of "From Hell" he's friendly and he even wants to help Abberline with his investigation.

I've now seen the movie three times and still like it. It's suprising and exciting and it has a crazy end, were good guy dies...
