The Purge (I) (2013)
4/10
The Purge is all cheap thrills and spills
4 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The Purge had every potential to make a mark on the horror genre. The concept was original and with the producers of SINISTER and INSIDIOUS behind it, there were high hopes for myself (and i'm sure many other horror fans). However, the reality, was far from pleasing.

The Purge took it's original concept and rushed through it with no real backing as to what this whole idea was even about. It was flimsy and lacked basic explanations about who the characters were, when this Purge concept came to be and why exactly it has actually helped society only have 1% crime-rate. (and no, saying ridding someone of their inner hatred for a night isn't sufficient, thank you very much).

The film moved painfully by as I sat there cringing at it's cheap thrills and it's extremely forced use of 'creeping' the audience out. The masks were scary, don't get me wrong, but were forcefully used and placed inappropriately around the film in order to gain a cheap reaction from the audience as the rest of the story seemed to sink in a puddle of cheap quick sand. Shots of people in the masks on swings, tilting their heads, skipping through the house (which seemed incredibly unnecessary when attempting to kill a family), was just a little too forced and was my confirmation that the director had definitely lost all artistic integrity (and/or hope) in this film.

The shock end that saw (SPOILER AHEAD) the lead character Ethan Hawke die was about the only risky and exciting thing that the film did. In a film that ended up feeling like a cross between a cheap horror TV programme and a constant string of people who are 'just about to die but get saved in the last second', killing of the lead character was somewhat of a relief. At least James DeMonaco, who has actually had no directing experience before this, did something right. Too bad it was too late.

The Purge is just another disappointment in a genre that is desperately trying to reinvent itself, but keeps losing it's footing. Oh well - at least the bitch neighbor got what she deserved. (Kind of. Even though I know everyone was secretly wanting her to get shot)

Enchanted (2007)
4/10
Dreadful.
1 December 2007
This was a pathetic attempt, despite a couple of quirky and fab moments. Enchanted was an utter disappointment, and I am in complete shock at its high rating on IMDb. This film had a fantastic and original idea, I must say, but sometimes things don't work out. The film at times was too cheesy it made me cringe, and it got so terrible, that I walked out of the theatre with my friend near the end of the movie (So I did actually see basically all of it). There is a fine line between good cheesy, and too much cheese for one film. This was too much. The acting was rough, and alright. Nothing which made me go wow. Some of the ideas though turned into catastrophe. For example, the over the top dance numbers which made me what to throw my drink at the screen. The film was just dreadful, to say the least.

Although, I am sure there are little girls who would enjoy the film, basically only because there is a pretty little princess in a pretty little gown who had to marry a hunky prince, and has a squirrel friend who talks. Other than that, I suggest you stay away from this film. 4/10.

Shocked!
16 April 2007
I recently got back from my easter break, and on the plane i watched four movies, this being one of them. I didn't really excpect myself to like it much, especially after my dad said it was bad. But I brought myself to watch it, and I was shocked. The film was brilliantly created, and should have gotten many more awards and nominations than it did.

I just loved all the different stories, though personally some of the characters were pointless (ie, Ashton Kutcher - who may I add, just was terrible). I feel the performances were great though. Demi Moore did a brilliant job, and im not a fan of hers but I think she gave Oscar worthy material. Lindsay Lohan is a great actress, and she shined. Shia was also brilliant.

By the end of the film, I was not smiling because of course it was sad. I was touched, and I had goosebumps like never before. The film was directed and written amazingly (I loved the real footage and all). The film surprised me, and I am glad I watched it. 9/10.

The Queen (2006)
7/10
Watchable, and surprising.
16 April 2007
Another film I caught up with on the plane was The Queen. To be honest, I really only watched it because I wanted to see what the whole buzz with Helen Mirren was. What I got out of it though, was much more. I actually enjoyed it, and I thought it was surprising. To start with, Helen Mirren deserved every single praise she got. Her performance was classic. She was absolutely stunning, and gave an amazing performance. To follow on, supporting cast also did fabulous. Everybody did very well in the film.

The way the film was made was very emotional, and touched me. I learnt a lot also, which is always good. I loved the real footage, and the direction of the film was great. It wasn't an amazing movie though, but yet again, it isn't exactly my type of film. Overall, Helen Mirren is the best bit of the film. 7/10

Slow...and disappointing.
7 March 2007
I watched it, and honestly...I was expecting it to be really good. What I got was nothing more than a slow, and not very impressive film. Firstly, Heath Ledger was brilliant. He played his role nicely, and it was very realistic. That was probably the best part of the film, plus, a few other bits. Unfortunately, there were too many bad things about the film. 1) It was too slow!! 2) Jake didn't give an Oscar nominee/worthy performance, though it was good. 3) You could hardly hear what they were saying, and thats not a lie. So overall, the film was disappointing, I ended up turning it off near the end because...I just didn't really care. 4/10.

The Hours (2002)
10/10
Almost too much to handle.
19 September 2006
The Hours is an absolutely intense, and dark story of three different women of different eras, and how one is writing a story called "Mrs. Dalloway" while one is reading, and the other is living the life of Mrs. Dalloway. The film was very sad, and very touching. It was almost too much too handle, and was very intense. The plot was absolutely amazing, and it was so intriguing to see what would happen. Nicole Kidman gave an amazing performance has Virginia Wolf. She deserved that Oscar. The role was very tough, and she nailed it. Julianne Moore was brilliant too, though I don't feel she gave an Oscar-nominated performance, but maybe if I watch it again I may change my mind. Finally, Meryl Streep is one of the greatest living actresses of our generation, and she did fantastic! Disappointing to know that she wasn't nominated for this film at the Academy Awards, but she was nominated for another film. Absolutely an amazing and intense movie! Fantastic!

Most Intense Movie Of 2005 - Amazing!
4 November 2005
10/10 10/10 10/10

FlightPlan, I must say, is the most intense and brilliantly made movie of 2005. There is SO much suspense through out the movie, and there is SO much to think about. I enjoyed the film from the beginning and it was BRILLIANT! The script was great, and the director was amazing. There wasn't a dull moment EVER...And it went with a flow.

The cast were very good. They were so realistic and it made the movie 100 times better to see that the cast were actually good. :P

A MUST SEE... THE MOST INTENSE THRILLER OF 2005... AMAZING! BRILLIANT! SUPER! DELIGHTFUL! INTENSE!

Craven Doesn't Charm Like Scream...
1 November 2005
A disappointment I must say... Wes Craven is known for making GREAT scary movies, but CURSED didn't follow in the foot steps of the brilliant Scream Trilogy. It was scary at parts, and frightening in others, but the film lacked excitement... It was too slow and didn't have much fun. Some parts could have been a bit scarier or more exciting.

Cristina Ricci was awful in this movie. She is usually a brilliant and talented actress, but she was awful in this. Williamson WROTE the movie well, but some parts could have been... better.

Overall, 5/10 - It had potential but to be honest, a disappointment. But all in all it isn't a AWFUL movie, just a disappointment.

"The Ultimate Scream!"
19 October 2005
I have loved every scream film made, but this one was by far the one I enjoyed the most. This humor-laced horror film is original and lets out a lot of suspense, and may I add, a few laughs. The first one is classic and brilliant. The second was a perfectly good sequel but wasn't as good as the first. This one though, just has that twist to it which makes you love it so much. And I must say, I did love it and it has become my favourite scream. All cast were brilliant and did well. Of course, the plot was original and I loved every second. And Wes Craven has done it again. Made a brilliant movie! 10/10 - The Best Scream! VERY well done!

Good Sequel, But Still At Third.
19 October 2005
This was a well made sequel which was full of suspense, horror and some comedy. It was well made but it had something which didn't make you like

it better than the original and the third one, which followed after this one. As lovely as the cast were at acting their parts, and the script was well made, as well as the plot. It just didn't stick out. It wasn't a movie you could say OMG! I LOVE IT! It is just a "Cool Movie"

Wes Craven is an amazing director and I love his work. This one was NO exception. It was well made, and even if it wasn't my favourite, it was still a good movie. :D 8/10

Scary, Fast, Chilling... Brilliant!
24 September 2005
Scream... One of the best horror movies EVER made! The story is basically high school teens who are getting stailked by a suspicious murderer. After several deaths, everyone starts to worry. And EVERYONE is a suspect. The film is fast-paced and scary. From the beginning it has high energy and the film is kept high energised until the end. Some parts may be funny, but most of the film is chilling and full of suspense. All cast were brilliant! Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, COurtney Cox... Everyone did brilliant and made the film 10 times better to watch. Even though you don't like the movie, you have to agree, this film started the whole scary movie thing. Everyone was inspired by this film, from the famous "Im making popcron" line to the silly garage death scene. But this film is TRULY brilliant! Wes Craven is amazing! 10/10 - Best Scary Film Ever!

Small Budget, Big Power! Hilarious Family Film!
24 September 2005
At first glance I bet 90% of people would under estimate it. But I tell you, this is one heck of a film. It should have been put into theatres because it is SO much fun, and you can watch it with Family, friends, Anyone...and it NEVER gets boring! The comedy is everywhere. Jokes, gags, everything! It is so hilarious and you could seriously laugh through out the whole film. The acting was GREAT! It was clear and good. Finally the PLOT. Truly original! It is simple but the film is truly GREAT! Overall I give it 9/10. A bit of work here and there and the film could actually be PERFECT! RENT the film, actually, BUY the film because whenever your bored or feeling low, this film has enough comedy to make you feel better again. Small Budget, Big Power!

Full Of Laughter- Great for a Saturday Night!
25 July 2005
This film was VERY well done. Where should I start? The cast. Perfect. Every cast member did their job well and everyone shined through out the movie. GREAT cast! Curtis could have won an Oscar for this performance! It was great. The comedy never stopped. There is ALWAYS something funny that is happening in the film. Curtis and Lohan, you could see they had great chemistry. They worked well and were perfect for the roles.

This film could go down as one of the best teen movies of all time. What a GREAT movie! 10/10 - Go buy the DVD and watch it with your whole family!

A Sheer Disappointment. - Duff and Locklear Keep it Together
28 June 2005
I am one of Hilary Duffs biggest fans, but this film was a disappointment. Firstly, it lacked on comedy. The movie had maybe 2 REAL laughs through out the film. There was not enough comedy to go around. Secondly, the film was just a bit boring. It was VERY slow... and not enough movement and action in it. It was mainly boring because of the lack of comedy, but also because they didn't use the plot the way they should have. The cast. Did a good job. Duff and Locklear shined on the screen and they kept the whole movie from falling. But they didn't look like they had enough energy. The most disspointing part was that, the plot was GREAT, and it could have been so awesome. But the makers, just made it slow and boring. 6/10. A Sheer Disappointment.

Amazing!
4 March 2005
This is an amazing and very heart warming movie. Hilary Duff showed the world that she can act in a romantic drama. This film got bad reviews and some good. I think it was under-rated. It is a great movie and has so much meaning. That's why I love it. It will make anyone cry, even the toughest man on the planet would probably cry. I give it 9/10 for good plot, script, acting and the overall movie. Congratulations to everyone who was part of this film because to me, it was a great success. This film has mature content so it is not for very young kids like most people would think. The soundtrack is also very nice. It includes great ochestra pieces and Hilary has a few of her songs in it. A GREAT film for Hilary fans and people who aren't!

In Search of Santa (2003 Video)
Happy and Fun!
8 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
In Search Of Santa is a cute, short movie based for children around the ages of 6-10. It is a fun movie because of its adventure, music and comedy. Of course I am 13 and only got the movie because I am Hils Biggest Fan but I still found it funny. Hilary and Haytlie, plus other cast did great jobs as voicing this movie. **May Contain Spoilers** The animation in this film was OKAY. But it seemed like you were playing a video game! But that doesn't matter as the animation is still fun. So overall, it is based for younger children but if you are 13, like me, and watch the film you can watch out for the funny parts in the movie that children wouldn't point out. (Haylies Voice!!!) Overall, 7/10

Lovin' Every Dozen.
29 January 2005
This film is defanatly an awesome film. It is made for the whole family and anyone can simply enjoy it. Every actor/actress in the film showed 100%. Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, who were the main characters, were awesome. Hilary Duff wasn't seen in this film as much as fans would have liked her to be in, but when she was on the silver screen she stole the film. Cheaper By The Dozen has a great family moral... You family will always be there for you no matter what happens to you! This film was so heart warming and it is a MUST-SEE movie, especially on Christmas Time. Everyone who gets their hands on the DVD will fall in love with it... it is for all ages and extremely awesome. Overall, 8/10

Good Disney Movie!
29 January 2005
Kelly Collins is a typical teenage girl. But when she has to go to a military camp... things change. This movie includes great laughs and is a heart warming family movie. Hilary Duff and Christy Carlson Romano bring so much energy and talent onto the screen. This charming film which premiered in 2002 was announced the highest rated Disney Show of all time. (Unfortunatly in 2003, You Wish stole the title - But for us Hilary fans, Cadet Kelly will always be the number 1 movie of Disney) The film is based around the age group of 6-15. It is good for both genders and doesn't include any bad language or gestures. I loved watching this film because it is so awesome and has a great plot. Overall, 7/10

Lizzie McGuire (2001–2004)
Number 1 Teen TV Show!
29 January 2005
Lizzie McGuire is one of the hottest TV Shows out there. It is based for Teens and Children, but who said adults couldn't like it either? I know a few people above 20 who still like this adorable TV Show. Starring Teen Queen Hilary Duff, in this Show Hilary shows full frontal good talent and her style is awesome. As well as Hil there is Lalaine and Adam Lamberg. They all show great talent! When the show first released in 2001 it was a HUGE hit and was the highest rated Disney show in history. I know why... this 25 minute TV show is full of laughs, teenage problems and sometimes even heart warming moments. This is a must see TV Show.

The Teen "Bond" Movie
20 December 2004
This film was very entertaining. It starred Frankie Muniz and Hilary Duff. The film included lots of action (with great effects, may I add), romance and comedy. What more could you ask from a film? The movie is defanatly for 13-18 year olds. Some parts could be a bit violent for children and the movie does include some profanity and rude language.I recommend this film to people who like spy-movies, are into lots of action filled movies and of course if you are a fan of the amazing Hilary Duff. Hilary wasn't in the movie as much as fans would have liked her to be, but when she was in a scene she stole the movie! GREAT acting and a good movie. Overall... 8/10

A Kids based film...
20 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I recently got this film on DVD. Hilary Duff is SO adorable. She defanatly stole the movie with her adorable charm. The movie is defanatly a kid based film. Older than 13... probably not going to enjoy it. The acting, GREAT. The plot was cute and had a great meaning. The movie was cute but not the best movie ever. many bits were boring but others were high energised!

***SPOILER*** The movie of course has to include flying and stuff. This films graphics were not good. Yes, it was made in 1998 but the graphics will turn you off. I would give the graphics about two out of ten!

Overall, I think the movie was sort of disappointing but yet it was cute! If you are over 13 years old, I would say, do not watch this film because it is based for children. 6/10

Adorable and Charming!
9 December 2004
Hilary Duff is an amazing and talented young actress and made this film even better! The film is extremely charming and makes you want to watch it over and over again. It includes lots of comedy and is full of power from the actors. Every part of this film was adorable in its own way and I really enjoyed it. People who have not seen it, WATCH IT! It is based around for kids/young adults but even if you are 18 or above you can enjoy this film. I am really glad they made this film because it is so enjoyable. Also congratulations to all the other cast members because they were fab too. Especially Alex borstein who played miss ungemeyer, she was one funny character! OVERALL... 10/10

Hilary Shines as the new Cinderella
9 December 2004
I am a Hilary fan and I just want to say that this is my fave Hil movie so far. Hilary seriously shined as the new 'Cinderella'. Her acting had improved so much and it was a joy to watch her in this GREAT movie! it was full of comedy and was very cute and sweet. I wasn't bored in any parts of the film and enjoyed the whole flick. All the cast members did well and the script was greatly written. The movie kept the audience enjoyed and entertained, as well as me! Overall I give it 10/10 because it is an amazing film. And for people who haven't seen it... it is not only for like kids/teenagers/girls. I am a guy and enjoyed it. It includes some mature content so of course it isn't only for children! Well made movie!
