Donnybrook (2018)
Honesty
It is not quite surprising to see the rather mediocre public rating of this film as this is not quite your average, formulaic and moralistic audio-visual spectacle we were trained to lament. And that's exactly the reason why I would highly recommend to see this work.
There is a quite infamous video on Youtube of Kurt Vonnegut talking about the mysterious marvel of ambiguity in storytelling. If you did not like this film, I suggest you take a look at that presentation because maybe it might spark a new sense of perception within you. Perhaps we do need to re-educate ourselves a little bit in order to learn to see the beauty in works such as this one.
It is difficult for us to accept something if no answers are provided. We go along with the journey expecting a lesson at the end of it, only to be disappointed when it turns out there is no lesson at all. Or perhaps the lesson is hidden. Or perhaps the lesson is how you perceive it personally without anyone telling you what it means. Maybe you have to find the meaning for yourself or maybe there is no meaning at all.
The film itself is beautifully crafted. The cinematography in its minimalist yet very eloquent and balanced framing as well as its simplicity in movement and rhythm is quite stunning if you're into that kind of aesthetic. Visually, this has been crafted as well as it gets.
Musically, in my opinion, the films did strike quite a few difficult notes in my personal view. Some bits were right on the mark but other bits were over-the-top and out of place. Some moments would have been better served with an introspective silence.
The performances were honest and quite touching at moments. Everyone did a great job in opinion.
A big bravo and thank you to everyone involved in making this piece. Thank you for the honesty, I very much appreciated it. Beautiful, beautiful work!

Right on Time
If you're a thinker, this film is definitely on your watch list with high(est) priority. If you're not really a thinker, this film might have the power to inspire you to do so anyway.. so be warned!
The timing seems to be perfect; the message it tries to convey is delightfully relevant to the confusing times of today. Tolga Karaçelik had the capacity to see this enabling him to crystallize this vision graciously weaving it into a beautiful form; a film that speaks vividly not only to the eye but also to the mind and emotions of the receiver. You will be challenged!
What do you do if the the root of the problem has grown so thick that it seems impossible to eradicate it without the requirement of suffering and sacrifice? What will it take to inspire, enable us to move forward again when we're stuck, stranded and have no heading?
Tolga Karaçelik has proved himself to be a gifted story teller. His voice strikes true and with strength yet remains grounded in its efficient and charming simplicity.
