The Munsters (2022)
It's the Munsters!
Rob Zombie's latest flick, the Munsters, is a campy, visually-mesmerizing, zany fun film. Paying all due respect to the original series while keeping to his dark vision and style influenced immensely by the Universal Monsters and the horror loving kid fans of the 60s and 70s drawn to the horror movie hosts.
The Munsters is ambiently a masterpiece and the script and characters themselves, as in the original series, are zany, crazy, and corny and campy. It's a new take on an old concept and I found it works. Quite well. Rob Zombie knew what he was doing here and if you know and somewhat appreciate his other films and know the Munsters as they are, then this film is more than satisfactory.
Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa was great as was Sherri Moon Zombie as Lily. Just look at Al Lewis and Yvonne DeCarlo for reference. The same goes for Jeff Daniel Phillips' Herman Munster. The cast was great and on point with typical Munsters antics.
Monsters: Museum Hearts (1990)
Horror Fandom Fun
Yes, its a typical Monsters-y'know-that-tv-series-from-the-80's?-fashioned episode with a cheesy storyline with relatively unknown actors and some interesting effects. This episode doesn't stray far from what I think the series was trying to achieve. If you love zombies and witches and the undead, which are, after all, Monsters this one is sure to please.
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)
Not bad at all
As far as most sequels go they more than most likely start thinning out the original concept. This is not the case with Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, though. This one retains all the creepy elements of the former films and branches it out to another level. Talk about adding some fear into our lives during a season known for Santa Claus and elves and reindeer. The character developments were fresh and the story line builds on as the film plays out making for a really eerie ending (and, of course, more than enough room for another sequel). I would have given it a 9.5 had it not been for the CGI effects ingrained into the VHS copies they were viewing. These were, at best, somewhat OK. The film also took on a demonic presence unlike the others and we even have a portal to that dimension made quite evident here. The little girl portraying Leila made quite an impression as well. It really was tons of creepy fun watching this latest of the Paranormal Activity movies.
