Cheap Old Houses (2021)
Good start, but something is missing.
As other reviews pointed out, it's nice to see unique older homes for a change instead of the run-of-the mill-modern homes that lack any kind of warmth or charm, but....this show falls flat. The hosts are okay, but they travel around aimlessly. You never see any of their suggestions or ideas come to fruition. And when they do showcase homes that have been saved, the owner gets a flimsy little flag that looks like it was picked up from the souvenir section at the last gas station on the way there.
If they're given a season 2, I would definitely change up the format. Instead of going to see vacabnt houses, the hosts should focus on followers that have purchased homes seen on their page, offer design services, and document the work being done.
Nobody's Fool (2018)
Just awful
I generally don't like Tyler Perry films, but I do like Tiffany Haddish, so I gave it a try. This was all sorts of awful. Tiffany overacted her part and Tika's character was a terrible, selfish person. Whoopi was okay, but wasn't enough to carry this to the finish line.
Tall Girl (2019)
Mehh...
I tried to like this, but couldn't. Steve Zahn and Angela Kinsey and the reason for the crate were good, but everything else fell flat. None of the characters were well developed and the main character was unlikable. No chemistry between anyone, so it was pretty much anyone's guess who would end up together at the end. Definitely overplayed the whole height thing, because 6'1" isn't that tall.
Russian Doll (2019)
So many layers
I just finished binging Russian Dolls, and it was awesome. While it's loaded with dark humor, this show is not a a comedy, but so much more. Its smorgasbord of topics, including loneliness, guilt, depression, fear, forgiveness, and moving forward.
You, Me and Dupree (2006)
Better than expected
I went to see this movie with a few friends from work. I was skeptical at first. I thought it would be just another trite comedy with gross sexual humor and mediocre situations. I'm not a big fan of any of the main actors, but I must say that I was impressed overall.
The advertisements had the main character, Dupree as a bumbling and annoying freeloader, but by the end of the film he's sensitive, funny, and all around lovable.
Matt Dillon's character is a man that you can love, hate, and pity at the same time. Michael Douglas as the controlling father-in-law was hilarious. He along with Seth Rogan gave it the right balance.
Miami Vice (2006)
By the end of the movie I was $12 poorer and that much dumber
This will probably be the most unbiased comment on here. I had only seen a few of the old Miami Vice episodes and I felt that they were pretty good. So I'm not a hater or one of those fanatics that will say that it was absolutely wonderful when it wasn't.
Me and a couple of buddies from work decided to get together and see a movie over the weekend. The majority wanted Miami Vice. I was skeptical at first. Few remake movies are ever as good as the original, and how good can a remake movie be when the main song in the advertisement is also a cover? That pretty much answered my question. In typical 1990-2000-ish fashion the movie starts out with a girl dancing provocatively in a night club. This basically foreshadows about 75% of the movie.
Farrell and Foxx were horrible as Crockett and Tubbs. Not to mention Naomie Harris. Throughout most of the movie it was hard to tell if Crockett was from the South or from Ireland. And I'm quite sure the Latin community holds more respect for Taco Bell than Naomie's attempt at a Hispanic accent. Foxx's Tubbs was also over the top to the point where it was unbelievable. I'm starting to think that Jamie's skills are just over-hyped because one movie turned out to be a fluke. Yes, Ray is an awesome movie, but it seems as thought that's Jamie's limit.
The action that you see in the trailer is just about all of the action you'll get. Out of 135 minutes you'll only get about 7 minutes of action. The plot was basic and didn't work for a movie that was over 2 hours long. It seemed as thought the writers and directors figured that having several sex scenes, three explosions, and two gun battles would be good enough to hold the audience. By the second sex scene a majority of the movie theater laughed out loud because it seemed like an unnecessary filler.
I say wait to buy it as a secondhand DVD off of Ebay, but even that would be paying too much.
Overall, 60% Sex+ 35% Plot + 5% Action= 100% Garbage.
Soap Center (2000)
The worst thing to hit soap land since PC
All I can say is good ridden to bad rubbish. This show had to be the worst of the worst. The interviews were old, the information was outdated, and it was more than evident that the hosts were reading off the teleprompter. I thought things would be better once SN made a name of itself, but I guessed wrong. They would create only one 1/2 hour episode per week and literally re air it 35 times that week. The only good things I can say about this show is that it kept on the topic of soaps, unlike it's counter part, Soap Talk, and they gave Mimi Torchin her own segment. Mimi was the one who asked the interesting questions unlike the cover questions that Tanika would ask. I guess they thought if they aired it from different sets that people would want to watch it more. I'll take Tanika over Lisa on any day.
