The Lovecraft Investigations (2018)
Spooky, atmospheric and gripping!
I've listened to a lot of radio drama over the years and this is the best by far.
It really got its Lovecraftian hooks (or should I say tentacles) in to me.
It was genuinely chilling and scary and I'm a difficult one to scare these days.
When I first started listening I thought it was a real true crime podcast and was absolutely terrified.
When I realised it was a drama and calmed down a bit it was still really effecting.
Something about lying in the dark, on your own, with this in your ears really does the trick 😁
Do yourself a favour and go to BBC Sounds and have a listen, you won't regret it.... Or maybe you will...
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
It's another Saw film, that's it.
I don't know who convinced Rock, Jackson and Minghella to be in yet another Saw film but they should have turned it down.
They are not bad in it but their caliber really should have kept them well away from what's another cheesy, gory Saw film with not much actual story.
Taskmaster (2015)
Literally the most I've ever laughed at a TV show
I was in a really deep depression (really, I have mental health issues) and I started to watch a random episode of this and got into it, I ended up howling with laughter like I never have before.
I have now watched every episode and always really look forward to a new series.
It so funny but in such a simple way and it also has the tip top gold of the UK comedy scene.
Watch it now!
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015)
Ultimate mix of feelgood and irreverent comedy
The core subject at the beginning is essentially quite dark (something I didn't really think that hard about until I got my mum to watch the first episode and she felt awkward laughing at it) but its instantly more feel good than anything else.
It gets funnier and funnier as the characters and their relationships develop.
Also the writers seem to get into their stride quite quickly, whilst still having great scope for development that they continue to achieve.
The humour is a brilliant mix of innocent joyiousness, smart slapstick and clever satirical and cultural references.
Also one can't ignore the amazing cast. Just brilliant!
Slight spoiler alert (but not really) Titus's pastiche of Beyonce's Lemonade is one of the best things I've ever watched!
