Nope (2022)
Not bad, but fails to stick the landing.
The movie starts off pretty good, scenes move along quickly and says what they need to get the story going while building tension.
The mood is set very well for when things start to happen, and it plays out in a very creepy way, tapping into the fear of the unknown in a way that feels oddly familiar.
The failure in my opinion comes closer to the end where the movie changes its tone from creepy, almost cosmic, horror to heroic optimism and it is very jarring, this would have been so much better as a straight up cosmic horror movie, the restraint of the first part of the movie is just gone for the ending, and I feel they would have made a better movie if they just kept that restraint throught the whole thing.
All that being said, its still a pretty good movie, it was well cast and while being quite diverse, it does not fall into the same trappings other diverse projects tend to fall into, where diversity seems to be their only real priority, here it seems to be included, but very low on the list and the cast is pretty much perfect.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Painfully mediocre
This is just bad, its like it came off a conveyor belt from a mediocre factory, I think Disney is just too big for its own good, it just feels off in so many ways like its trying so hard to appeal to literally everyone while failing to appeal to anyone, there is nothing unique or interesting about this, its just characters you know in a bog standard story that plays it so safe that its just boring.
Ewan McGregor is the only thing keeping me from giving this a lower score, and there has so far been nothing interesting except for him, I think Im just going to skip this one and wait for the scenes with him and Anakin to come to youtube or something, because this show is a snoozefest.
Oh and the way Leia is portrayed as a savant genius 10 year old looking like a 5-7 year old is just grating and annoying, no child speaks or behaves like this, who thought this was a good idea?
Blueberry (2004)
The best DMT visuals ever made
This movie is just an excuse to show DMT visuals, its average at best but the visuals are 100% spot on, and this movie has THE best representation of a DMT trip ever made, the closest you will get without doing it.
So unless you are interested in that kind of thing, this movie will not be for you, its too bad they used a comic license to do it, but its still a masterpiece.
Bad movie, good DMT visuals.
Moonfall (2022)
Feels like it was made in a factory.
Like seriously, its not very good, I was expecting a dumb disaster movie, wanting that, but I was disappointed.
Halle Berry seems to ham it up the whole movie, the supporting cast is alright, but whenever someone is trying to come off as serious or dumping exposition, it just feels forced.
It's like some money men decided they wanted a movie where the moon crashed into earth and then had 30 different people cobble something together that barely works.
If you want a good disaster movie just go watch Deep Impact from 1998, skip this one, its not even worth it just for the effects, seriously.
Giving this a 5 because its imo the worst rating, not bad enough to be entertaining, and no redeeming qualities.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
A big pile of doodoo
Smells bad too. Flush it fast! Becasue it smells, like its up its own ass, because it totally is.
This is the best review you will ever read, trust me.
Dune (2021)
Not for your average Marvel fan.
Let me just preface this by saying that I love Marvel movies, and this is not a dunk on those who do, but Dune is more or less the complete opposite of those movies, its slow, its heavy and has a somber tone, people looking for a blockbuster with fast paced action and witty humor are gonna be disappointed, and there is nothing wrong with that, some people want light entertainment, if not most going by the popularity of Marvel movies, and this just isnt it.
What it is tho, is the most visually spectacular adaptation of Dune you could ask for, and the most accurate you could hope to achieve with a 2.5 hr runtime.
I see alot of people complaining that the movie is emotionless and boring, to me it conveys the feeling of living in a strange and hostile future perfectly, if you and your family is about to go face first into an obvious trap to take control over the most important planet in the universe, chances are you are not going to be a happy camper.
For those who have wanted sci fi aimed more for adults and like slower movies, this is fantastic.
For those looking for a movie to replace star wars after disney ruined the franchise, this might not be the movie you are looking for.
Gemusetto Machu Picchu (2019)
Drop som acid and try not to laugh for 5 hours straight.
If you don't enjoy hallucinogens or adult swim humor(they usually go hand in hand) this will probably just confuse you and make you angry.
But if you do, then oh boy, you are in for a treat.
We actually had to pause this half way through and cool down with an episode of Blue Planet, we were laughing constantly, Simonet is a genius!
Avenue 5 (2020)
Lacks the Iannucci touch
If you are coming to this as a fan of Iannucci's previous work, you will probably be disappointed like me, it lacks his style for some reason. The Thick of it and Veep is where his style comes out the best in my opinion, and I was hoping to see Laurie as a blend of Malcolm from the thick of it and House but in space. Instead this reminds me more of 30 Rock in both humor and pacing.
I get that Iannucci might be tired of doing political shows, but he does them so damn well that maybe he should have stuck to that, or used speculative future politics as the backdrop for the show.
The first episode picks up a bit near the end but ends too fast, which seems like a bad idea when theres only one episode to watch in the age of binging.
Was looking forward to more Iannucci, but this has yet to impress, or even indicate that its Iannucci's show at all, the first episode is very much a "get things into place" type of episode so I would give it atleast 2-3 episodes before I make up my mind about it.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019)
Awful
Didnt expect much, but I expected more than this. Its just the same movie, while hammering in the fact that they are "aware" with a spinkle of poorly executed self deprication while adding nothing at all to the formula. It attempts to be a meta commentary but fails spectaculary at it.
