The Lost (2022)
Touching story but difficult to watch.
As a parent, I found this to be a difficult movie to watch at times. Hollie Lewis did an excellent job of portraying a grieving mother, the emotion she showed seemed fitting and accurate. Some of the other acting, of different characters was not quite so believable, but overall, this is a movie worth watching.
Devs (2020)
Fantastic Series
This series kept me engaged and captivated all the way through it's first season. The content is thought provoking and complex. Surprisingly well acted too. Can't wait for the second season!
Prospect (2018)
Sci-Fi at it's Absolute Best
This was such an entertaining movie to watch. Pure Sci-Fi goodness, as if it was froman early sci-fi novel, but then actualized brilliantly to the screen. No BS, just a solid, captivating story, great acting. Everything was believable, I didn't question anything that happened. Effects were simple but hgh-quality. I would heartily recommend this movie to any die hard sci-fi fan.
Miranda Veil (2020)
Interesting concept.
I have to say that I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was quirky and weird at times, but that added to the charm. Annabel Barrett and Vida Ghaffari did a great job playing their characters. The writing at times felt a bit forced and unnatural but it didn't detract too much from the overall production.
Essentially, aside from the kidnap and torture, the movie is about a quest for identity for Miranda. What is she, and what does that mean for her? I wou.ik wholeheartedly give this movie a chance.
Cousins (2021)
Beautiful Film
This was one of the most touching, and yet difficult to watch films I've seen in a long time. It makes me think long and hard about the pain, suffering, and tremendous damage my colonial ancestors caused to indigenous people all around the world.
Zoe and the Astronaut (2018)
Interesting idea
Throughout the movie, there are holes in the plot, questions that never get answered, important details just glossed over. I actually thought the acting was quite good for a low budget sci-fi film. The sound was just horrible, with uneven levels from scene to scene, and random very loud footsteps that seemed out of place. I found myself really wanting to know more about the astronaut, details about where he came from, what his civilization was like, but absolutely no details were given. Twice, we saw the start of conversations that might reveal these details, and the scenes just ended before we could learn anything more about the astronaut. The real question the movie asks us to think about is "What would you agree to, to save the life of your child? How far would you go?" I think it did a fair job of addressing the emotions, and torment that making a decision like this would evoke.
Hell, or Tidewater (2020)
Terrible acting, AND offensive for Indigenous Canadians
First Of all, the acting here is abysmal. I've seen high schoolers in drama class who would be better than these actors.
Secondly, the writer and director did absolutely ZERO research on the First Nations culture and traditions here in BC where the movie is set. Most Of the First Nations characters are acted by white people, and the depictions of religion and tradition bear ZERO resemblance to the actual people who live in these communities. Cultural appropriation at its worst. Or is it even appropriation since they bungled it so badly? I don' teven know where to start.
The concept for this movie is half-decent, and it's a real shame that a better job wasn't done.
Dark Light (2019)
Worth watching, NOT a one star movie!
One star reviews really should be reserved for the worst of the worst movies. Over 2019-2020, I have certainly seen my fair share of one star horror movies. This was NOT one of them. The acting was better than average for a relatively unknown cast. The script started off strong, but wavered in quality for most of the movie. The concept for the"monsters" was fairly unbelievable and detract from the movie in my opinion. Headlight faced indigenous monsters living among us was just too much of a stretch for me personally. Overall though, the film is very watchable, and it is a better horror pic than the majority of what is out there recently. Don't listen to all the one star reviews, i think those people are only capable of rating something one or ten, nothing in between.
