Passengers (2016)
For me
For me, one of the most popular films, by accentuating the element I probably value most - that personal happiness - finding a soul mate and living with it for a short time at least, is of greater rank than nation-building. Which implies, of course, that I never had political ambitions.
Earthquake Bird (2019)
the photographer's lens
Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough in the photographer's lens. On Netflix's super-HD or 4K quality, it was a treat both visual and auditory - my headphones were running almost to capacity. But: the way Alicia played that strange mimic of a deeply introverted woman, the fascinating experience of acting, not to mention hearing her speak -- sometimes in English, sometimes in Japanese. For me, a full complement of stars.
Vuosaari (2012)
Finnish tragedy
For me, too fragmented a rambling narrative, dialogue taken out of context so it doesn't capture, characters mostly unsympathetic, in other words: boring.
