Still Life (2005)
What are you guys playing? This is a GREAT game!
Microids has done it once again! After their terrific classic 'Syberia I' and 'II' they knock it out of the ballpark with this game...and it's brilliant.
The game is incredibly creepy, the main character is a badass, smart woman, the premise is interesting, and the graphics are incredible for their time (they're still great even to this day). I have played almost a hundred crime adventure games before and this still remains to be one of m favorites. This game is superbly underrated and overlooked. I really do think it will become a cult classic like Syberia has become.
I do warn you all, this game can be intense. There is graphic violence throughout so do not play this if you are queasy.
The Bye Bye Man (2017)
Oh my word this is terrible.
I will admit that there are some very creepy parts to this film, yet watching this film I kept getting flashbacks on better horror movies that presented bogeymen way better than this one did. I felt like I was watching a movie that decided to reanact scenes from other movies.
I'm just going to come out and say it: The acting is HORRIBLE. This movies presents us with stilted, horrendous caricatures of what I think is supposed to be acting, but overall it's some of the worst I've seen in a while. The character's dialogue is so clumsy it gets awkward after a while. This is seriously worse than what college kids fresh out of film school can do!
Another error with this film is the characters describing the plot of this movie repeatedly to us OVER AND OVER AGAIN. This movie could have been about 20 minutes long! This may just be one of the most incomplete films I think I've seen in a while.
I didn't have very high expectations for this movie when it came out, but my god is it a lot worse than I had imagined it could ever be!
Kaze no tani no Naushika (1984)
This movie is a Gem
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is a breathtakingly beautiful film...and I'm putting that lightly. When I first popped the CD in, I was expecting an anime fairy tale, not an awesome sci-fi flick with a heavy and still relevant environmental message. I was both wowed by the plot and the fluid animation that had a relatively cheap budget (only about $1,000,000 estimate d budget).
I think this is the first Miyazaki film that really shows his impeccable talent (sorry, Totoro). This is a film I had to watch more than once to really fully understand it (and even then most Miyazaki films can still remain confusing). However, if I were to show my kid their first Miyazaki film, it would be this masterpiece. Heck, Is make this their first film to ever watch along with 'Spirited Away' to challenge their brains and show them some of the troubles in the world without frightening them.
Thank you Miyazaki. You are a genius.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016)
Ugliest TMNT Turtles I have EVER Seen!
Oh sweet mother of god...I think they screwed up even more on the looks of the Ninja Turtles in this film than the first CGI one. They made their complexions this sickly green color and made their faces look so human they look like Shreks on steroids.
Okay, now to the film part I guess...
It's quite possibly very lame. The jokes fall very, very flat on themselves. Something tells me that Michael Bay had something to do with this movie. I can tell by all the awful jokes and the weird design they gave to the turtles (whom I don't want to call turtles anymore).
I honestly don't think the first film needed a sequel (we all knew it was gonna happen, though). You know how we knew it was gonna happen? Well, because of the ending of the first TMNT movie and these films are being produced by the same guy that is working on the fifth Transformers movie. Haven't we seen enough ugly robots in films lately?
Overall, this movie is very, very boring with incredibly bad jokes and acting. I know there's gonna be a movie made after this one so why am I even bothering to review? I have no idea...
The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
Beautiful CGI does NOT make up for the poor story...
I gotta say one thing, Rovio did a GREAT job animating this movie. The animation is smooth and absolutely breathtaking at times. Bravo, Rovio. I can give you a few points for this.
However, then there's the story and then you realize what this movie is based off of. Yeah, it kinda sucks. I won't spoil anything too big, but the film is extremely boring and the plot is simply: misfit bird finds other misfit birds and they team up to defeat an evil green pig who has no development and is simply...evil. This guy was supposed to be like Galaxar from Monsters be Aliens...wants to take over something but is kind of incompetent and is supposed to be funny. I admit, a couple times he can be funny but overall he is very flat and after a while he drove me crazy!
Also, they kind of released this movie late. Who do you know has Angry Birds of their phones or tablets? It's in the past like Bitstrips and did not deserve a movie since...well, the game is just bird knocking down green pigs. Yeah. Real-depth story telling going on here!
However, I personally think you can make a movie based off of anything. I think Rovio focused too much on the $$$ and the animation instead of the story (kind of like Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle), which is a total shame. It had some potential.
I think Rovio after this should hire better script writers and start making movies instead of games. Seriously...their animation is beautiful. I can imagine themselves teaming up with Pixar or Dreamworks someday.
Also, the minion pigs in this movie are obviously Despicable Me Minion wannabes. Sorry Rovio...you didn't hide that too well.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
They over-hyped the movie.
I swear to god l, this is one of the most over-hyped films films I've ever seen. I was seeing Batman and Superman's faces glaring malevolently at each other on pop cans, popcorn bags, sides of city buses, candy bars, cracker boxes...it goes on and on. Even on Facebook if you wanted to post something on your feed it has to say below "excited about Batman v Superman. WTF really?! This is a terrible idea! I know you're trying to make money, but people were already excited for it anyways when they saw it at Star Wars showings! Over-hyping makes people think it's going to be the best picture ever.
So I see the movie.
Well, I can say it's a lot better than 'Man of Steel'...but is it the Dark Knight? Abseloutely not, but I digress.
The Superman bits were actually, I admit, pretty cool. I'm not a Superman fan but in this film he was pretty awesome. Batman on the other hand, was...odd. He wore this weird metal suit and was shooting at people WITH A GUN. I was thinking "what in the world?" Batman has a gun? Shooting at people? This is just wack!
This movie is entertaining in some aspects if you're bored stiff. The dialogue in this just out me to sleep. I could tell the actors were trying (mostly Superman) but it just came out all wrong. Sorry, Batman v Superman. You could have been better. Next big franchise you do, focus on the film instead of trying to sell toys and do product advertising.
Wait Until Dark (1967)
Creepy and Hell and Fabulous Acting from Hepburn
I remember being show this movie on Halloween by my 6th grade teacher. we all dimmed the lights and all my other classmates were looking around at each other. We had NO idea what kind of movie we would be watching and we were all anticipated about getting to watch a movie in class.
When the credits rolled I believe it was me and all my table mates that were quaking in fright after all that we had witnesses. However, I think I may be the only one who remembers it all vividly. Even to this day I'm still shocked that that movie was presented to us yet at the same time I was glad to see it. If it weren't for my 6th grade teacher I probably wouldn't have ever thought of seeing it.
The acting in this movie is great and Audrey Hepburn does a wonderful job playing a blind woman. I bet that's a very hard role to play without screwing up at one point if you can see perfectly well.
The shadows and the quiet yet eerie soundtrack will make you shudder at times. However, even if you're not into Thriller, Crime of Horror, your eyes will always be glued to the screen.
Gods of Egypt (2016)
Wow, this is pretty bad.
I am a huge fan of Egypt, and if you are to then don't bother to go see this flick. Casting Gerard Butler as Set is like casting Morgan Freeman as Jason Voorhees. They don't go together at all and Gerard's acting is just way over the top. All the actresses in this film are incredibly bland...so it's balancing out as shite on the scale so far.
Then there's the CGI...holy cow is there CGI. I believe this film has more of it than the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy combined. Not joking. I bet there's CGI in every single freaking scene of the movie! It really started to feel like my eyes were going to burn out of my sockets after almost an hour of watching it...and then getting a headache knowing I still had an hour more to sit through.
The main character is an idiot and is also terribly bland. I think the only *kind of tolerable* character was Horus...even then I knew this movie was doomed. I just sat there tapping my fingers on my seat as the credits rolled by slowly. The movie theater was almost packed yet nobody clapped. Me and an elder woman booed. I wouldn't have been surprised if anybody else would have joined me if they weren't with their girlfriends or boyfriends or 12 year old kids.
Don't go see this movie. I am shocked at how much it costed to make and have a feeling it's going to be a bomb. I'm sorry, but I predict it. Go see any other movie, but stay clear from this one.
