Der Commander (1988)
Good series
I have enjoyed watching 'The Commander' and recommend the show to others with one caveat...
Spoiler Alert!!!!!
Clare goes to bed with a suspect when she should keep her knickers on. No police officer would do that. I was disgusted. It was so stupid & not worthy of such a high-ranking officer.
Death in Paradise (2011)
Good mystery
I have watched Death in Paradise over the past several years & enjoyed Ben Miller's crime-solving methods. With Kris Marshall, a totally different style of solving crime is used. It is interesting to see how the two work their crime scenes. I enjoy the supporting cast as well. It is a bit formulaic, but the scenery is gorgeous & makes me wish I could visit. Great show!
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Very true to the books
After the first episode, I was hooked! Matthew Goode is fantastic as the vampire. As I read the books, I realized his casting is perfect. The rest of the cast is terrific, as well. The actress playing Diana Bishop is wonderful in the role. I was scared, in love, cried & generally reveled in the first season. Hurry up, BBC, get that second & third series completed do I can dive back in!
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Exciting Adventure
I have been looking forward to 'Avengers - End Game' since I saw the first film. The sequel was everything I expected. Action-packed but lots of slow parts, which makes the movie drag at times. But thete were many fast-paced action scenes & I loved the Doctor Who reference. I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat. Good performances, but almost too many characters for me to keep track of for me. If you love superhero movies, this one is a treat!
The Hunger Games (2012)
The Hunger Games left me wanting more
I was a bit worried that I wouldn't like The Hunger Games movie, but I shouldn't have worried -- it was terrific! I loved the books and devoured them, so was a bit nervous about seeing the film. I couldn't find fault with the film. It was just as smart as the first book, lots of action, scary bits and romantic bits, thrills and chills. The folks who put this together definitely did well with casting -- love seeing Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence and Alexander Ludwig all grown up and doing well -- the sets were reminiscent of Brazil (another movie I love) and the writing was first-rate.
Elizabeth Banks was hilarious, Stanley Tucci (such a great actor) was fabulous, Woody Harrelson was great and even the short time Lenny Kravitz was on screen showed some acting chops. Of course, Donald Sutherland was terrific. The costumes were pretty wild, which really helped keep the otherworldliness of the 13 districts alive.
The parts that were changed didn't really interfere with the story, which was a nice departure from other teen films based on best-selling novels. It didn't hurt that Suzanne Collins helped write the screenplay. I was so surprised when the movie was over -- I kept thinking, surely it's almost over but I don't want it to end. While the second and third books weren't as strong to me as the first, I am still anxious to see the films hopefully being made from the final two chapters of Katness and Peta's story.
A must see!
This Means War (2012)
I thought it was great!
This is a funny movie -- why don't critics get it? Chris Pine and Tom Hardy played off each other very well and Reese Witherspoon was terrific. I even liked Chelsea Handler in this movie and she isn't one of my favorite comedians. It was action-packed, thrilling in the right places, wasn't too predictable and made me LOL. Hy husband liked it, too. Course, he was one of only six men in the theater but it was good. I have liked Chris Pine since Star Trek and there was a bit of a homage to that film in one of the music choices -- don't know of that was deliberate or not but it was funny to me. Didn't realize I had seen Tom Hardy before -- hope that doesn't mean he isn't memorable for me. I thought his character was sweet, especially with his son. It was nice to see Rosemary Harris again, she is almost a treat.
The Lightkeepers (2009)
The Lightkeepers
This film is the kind of movie you wish you could see all the time. It was sweet, a bit slow but not obnoxiously so and well acted. Richard Dreyfuss is one of my favorites and he is perfectly curmudgeonly in this movie. Tom Wisdom is delightful and Blythe Danner was gorgeous! Mamie Gummer's face kept taunting me until I looked her up and discovered she is Meryl Streep's daughter. She was very understated in the film and is quite a good actress. There was mystery in the film, which was not what I expected. It reminded me of the old British comedy of manners films where there is misdirection and mistaken identities. It was a fun movie to watch and I would recommend it to anyone who likes films that are thoughtful and amusing. I just loved it!
