Pure uplifting, feel-good entertainment
20 August 2022
Really liked the first film but this is even better. Funnier and more dramatic. Just the kind of feel-good movie we need in these dark times. Loved Imelda May and James Purefoy delivers a powerful and moving performance as Jim who is struggling with grief. Supporting cast are very funny and visually it looks amazing, definitely booking a holiday in Cornwall. Came out of the cinema with a big smile on my face feeling happier about the world.

Very funny satire with Judi Dench on fire!

What a breath of fresh air. Why don't they make more screwball films like this? It was total escapism with a hilarious and preposterous plot that ended up being quite moving. Judi Dench delivers a masterclass in comic timing and Dan Stevens proves himself to be as good a comic actor as any. Great performances from Isla Fisher and Leslie Mann too. Definitely a lockdown pick-me-up!

British Gangster Classic

Just got back from cinema. Haven't seen a British crime thriller this good since Sexy Beast! That said, this is a lot darker than that and is more in line with American crime movies. It was pretty full on and I had to look away a few times. My sister also screamed at a scene which I won't spoil for everyone. Thought all of the actors were on top form and what's not to like about seeing Sam Claflin with his top off! 8 out of 10.

VERY FUNNY, VERY MOVING AND VERY UPLIFTING!
7 February 2018
Watched this absolute gem of a film at the Telegraph's special screening at the Vue cinema in London's West End last night. I went with my friend who is much older than I am and is much nearer in age to the target demographic but I will certainly be recommending it to my friends as I came away feeling that age had nothing to do with it. It was about tacking life's issues with courage, humour and strength, no matter how old you are. Haven't laughed and cried in a cinema like that for years and looking around at the end when the lights came up I definitely wasn't the only audience member. I'm probably not going to go out and join a dance class but I will remember Sandra and Bif's sense of humour and spirit for a very long time.

Powerful, Intelligent and unrelenting

Ron Scalpello has directed a great film with real flair on a shoe-string budget which leaves the viewer bloodied and battered... in a good way. I've always been fascinated by what makes a man so violent, well this film explains that very well. Strong performances from the main leads. John Hurt was amazing.

Absolutely loved it!

Can't believe some of the negativity on here and in the press. And I really don't why people are saying that it isn't funny. This is a very funny, charming film in the tradition of the old Ealing comedies. The cinema I went to see it in was packed and was laughing all the way through. How anyone can say that Landis has delivered a turkey is baffling. It's witty, well shot, got great performances and it has Ronnie Corbett! Hilarious. I think this is a film that has suffered from all of the expectation and the mass marketing. I don't think it is consistently laugh out loud movie but it is consistently funny. I'm so glad that I got the chance to see something different, other than all of the franchise crap on offer at the moment. Two thumbs up to Landis, Pegg and Serkis and of course, Mr Ronnie Corbett, long may your career continue! 4 stars!
