Rubikon (2022)
Premise of Eco Death Cult did not help this film
The film is based around Eco death cultism and is therefore on a downward spiral right from the start of the film. Texts appear right the beginning of the film laying out its eco premise, sorry guys we only have 30 years before this happens to us too!
The space station is the base of the story with little interaction ever with the one sister and the 'selfish Earth corporate executives'. Executive son is the super elite eco warrior who has been chaperoned up into space with a brain interphased warrior spy who has been tasked with bringing back corporate space developed oxygen generating super gel.
Eco death cultist gets his wish, but no one acts on his actions and story picks up in the end.
Ending was filled with hope, but only because 99% of the human race are wiped out down below on Earth where a new beginning will happen.
There are parts of the film where you have no idea what and why things are happening. Thin plot and characterisation development really show up far too often. Actors work hard to make you want to connect with characters, unfortunately it doesn't happen. Only the final introduced character achieves this as the cast relax into their roles.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Brilliant script & direction
Great film throughout. Brilliant story where Godzilla plays second fiddle to main characters. Godzilla is impactful in every scene and is a homage to his early Japanese character.
The story telling and characterisation is brilliant throughout - there are no hollow interpretations and the ending returns to the main characters with a side clip of what is to become of Godzilla.
I didn't give it a 10 because more of the film could have been in English where the prospective audience would have been huge!
I would happily recommend this film to anyone, truly a masterpiece for this title. American script writers need to watch this film and take note, this is how you write a successful movie!
The Laundromat (2019)
Self indulgent protest film
This was a poor protest film concerning the release of the panama papers.
The film attempted to make it slightly jokey, which it never managed to pull off.
Best thing about this film is you can s ooze through it as there are no sudden noises or outbreak of acting skills at any time.
Ad Vitam (2018)
Cool concept, suspense & mystery only 1 series
Exactly what you want from a sci-fi series, cool concept, excellent execution, good acting and several red herrings taking you off into not such a distant future where eternal youth is just beginning, and the young are treated as kids until they are over 30 years old.
It's too easy to press the next episode in this series as the investigation progresses with the characters and plot building into the last episode. There are some shocking scenes that are quite graphic, although not violent. A must watch for those who don't want 'Wham, Bam, smash and grab' kiddies sci-fi.
