Dune (2021)
Great movie!!
I wasn't expecting much but was so surprised at how good this movie was. It really encompasses the cultural practices of desert dwellers, which i thought made for very consistent and nice background details.. best sci-fi movie i have seen in a long time and an even better remake!
Dr. Death (2021)
Had so much potential but fell a bit flat
The podcast of this was amazing, it's such a horrific story and I just don't feel they were able to capture that in the way this drama was directed. An all star cast and unbelievable story but just wasn't directed right. It was slow paced and dis-jointed.
One scene from his college football opened in a blur, it may have intended to be a transition effect but just seemed out of place or badly edited. The timeline is hard to follow and the pace is too slow for some things to make sense in the way the played out in real life.
My parting comment is "pity"
The Tomorrow War (2021)
One of the best 2021 movies
This movie was really good, I wish i could have seen it on the big screen. Great special effects, pretty decent acting and character development and a pretty cool fantasy war storyline. But overly sentimental in short spaces at times but that's probably the only bad thing.... I was very pleasantly surprised and think it deserves a bit more credit!!
Unhinged (2020)
Not what I expected and not in a good way...
This is the first very negative review I have ever written and although there are some spoilers, they are not ones that would make any real difference...
Firstly, I picked this movie as Russell Crowe was in it and expected it would blow me away but it failed to do so, as did Russell and I felt weird for him to be in this B type movie.
It seemed to be half based in the 90's to cover certain plot holes for example. no ability for police to trace the guy on a murderous rampage who is still driving all over the city. However the use of iPhones and iPads lets us know it's actually at least 2009 or 2010 onward. There is even a scene where he brutally murderers a lawyer in a diner and everyone is filming it on their phones yet still no police....
Secondly, the level of violence was unexpected, it reminded me of Final Destination but it was jumpy and gratuitous so at least that made it somewhat exciting and horrifying.
Thirdly - does Russel Crowe now remind anyone of John Goodman? The opening scene is horrific but never really explained, seems just to develop his character that he's a monster out for vengeance.
Finally the movie is basically a collage of every female driver stereotype, I'm surprised they didn't have the main character eating breakfast cereal while driving. It portrays her as someone who has no ability to focus on anything she is doing or understand anything about driving or the rules of the road or road safety even with her child in the car. One scene even shows a random woman applying mascara on a highway before she gets smashed off the road and probably killed, the movie doesn't wait around to confirm that.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone other that people who hate women drivers, love gratuitous violence and have little or no interest in Russell Crowe's acting prowess.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
What was it about?
I'm not the biggest fan of Leo, he's incredible in some films like Blood Diamond and the Departed but I don't know why I just don't like him in Tarantino movies.
At the end of this movie, I was left with the thought, what did i just watch?!. It didn't make sense to me at all. It seemed to be a lot of different ideas placed together with no real connection. So I didn't like it.
