Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
Could they have at least tried to skip just 1 cliche
If I wanted to watch CNN I could simply logon and and link to it. What a stupidly biased political rant. Boring, insipid, plastic, and generally no different from any other current offering. Thankfully I own the beautiful original series and have rewatched it at least a dozen times. I forced myself to sit through the new pilot but won't waste another second of my life on this tripe. Question "Have IQs just suddenly dropped"?
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Shameful, Dishonest, Teeny Bopper Pulp
I was 16 years old when the original Star Trek awakened my dreams of the future, who could look away from a series on TV that was so far ahead of everything that existed, not only on TV, but in the real world as well.... no racism, a world fueled by peaceful relations with the entire universe, A world of exploration with no discrimination between, cultures, gender, race, or species! But STD has replaced all of that with an abomination of collected 21st century political PC jargon, I wanted so much to see Michael become the new Janeway, instead all I see are once intelligent Klingons reduced to ... whatever... Orks? Flash! Dazzel! Jr High School scripts and acting, disjointed story lines with a dash of LGBT thrown in for good measure..., gotta keep the PC crap going. But this is not Star Trek, and it's an insult to the original creators, writers, producers, actors, and audience. I forced myself through the 1st few episodes hoping they would finally reach watchability. they never did, in fact I ordered the CBS streaming app just to have his show available. I've cancelled both, but fortunately I have the complete collections of all of the previous Star Trek series, and am content to re-watch them over, and over, and over until something better comes along, all of the previous Star Trek series, and movies, oh yeah and also SG-1. Please cancel this show before any more damage can be done to the memory of Gene Rodenberry and Star Trek!
Dune (1984)
The 2nd Greatest Sci-Fi story ever = the best Sci-fi movie ever made.
I consider Asmov's "Foundation Trilogy" to be the firstest & bestest sci-fi novel ever penned. But certainly Herbert's "Dune" series rates very, very closely. I've never understood all the fuss over Lynch's adaptation of this novel. I first saw it on opening day way back in 1984, and have watched it a zillion times since then, never understanding the critics points of view. I do understand that trying to fit this novel into 2hrs or less is a very daunting & I'd say most likely an impossible task for anyone. Lynch does a terrific job portraying the events accurately, vividly and artistically. He captures the complete essence of Herbet's "Dune"., The fremen are exactly as I imagined them when I first read the book way back in 10th grade, Duke Leto & Paul were precisely how I envisioned them, the Baron Harkonen .... just as I imagined, we didn't get to see a lot of Duncan Idaho in Lynch's version .... he was always a favorite of mine from the book,; but, what we did see of him, was, again ... right on the money. The intrigue of the Emperor & the Harkonens filled the screen and the mind's eye, I have never seen the extended version but am waiting on pins & needles for my copy to arrive. The only problem I have ever had with Lynch's Dune, is the apparent desire to keep the movie within the allotted 2hr time frame.
Supurigan (1998)
Simply excellent, Total entertainment from act1 thru the finale.
Maybe it's cause I'm new to anime, or maybe it's cause I'm a dinosaur looking for a fresh face on entertainment ... I dunno exactly what it is, but I found Spriggan to be the absolute best movie I've seen in years ..., make that tens of years. I've read reviews that lament the lack of story line and character development; Hogwash! I found these areas to be well covered and extremely easy to follow & cheer for. Granted the movie offers an extremely over-simplistic view of world politics by blaming all of the world's woes on the good ole U.S. of A., but that's to be expected when you're the number 1 world power & the world is as screwed up as it is. We all know, hopefully, that evil & greed existed before America & will continue for a long time after the USA, but it makes for one helluva story line. Action packed, extremely well drawn and acted, I found myself completely absorbed from the very first minute. A previous viewer commented on the sound problems, I experienced this too. I found that at times voices were very faint, while background effects were overloud, this was not very discomforting & did not at all distract from the on screen fun.
