Black Mirror: Loch Henry (2023)
Interesting Connection to Joan is Awful...definitely a "Source" world
Just watched the previous episode and the first thing that came to mind was Joan & her fiancé discussing what to watch and a Scottish true crime show comes up as an option. How meta is that?
So, knowing this it makes sense that this episode has a gritty realistic feel film grain wise and in acting style. Shows that weird can be found in our reality and doesn't need gimmicks. This really capture our fascination with the irresistibility of the morose under the guise of seeking justice.
Then, back to discussing a Netflix show called The Waltonville Claw (sounds real, but not), in which the characters talk about it's commercial appeal...proof of our being numb to the terrifying. If the blood splays, it plays, right?
Love, Classified (2022)
Refreshingly Original
I've been binging several hallmark romances since the Covid lockdown started. A majority are, in my opinion, formulaic. Love, Classifieds is the first one that I've seen that is seems real. Less restrained, spontaneous, not-so-perfect-&-shiny. To me it's a refreshing take. Even this movie makes a statement about that. Love is unpredictable, murky, imperfect & real. So much more rewarding. Loved this movie! Highly recommend!
NOTE: Would love it if they made it a series. Just saying...
Malignant (2021)
???Confused???
Hard to follow, because at first I thought it was a parody of horror movies, I was even able predict dialogue as it was spoken, more than one actress resembled the lead (The doctor at beginning, the tour guide, and Madison...even the ghost. I felt misled to who was who.). Nothing really original, a retread of horror tropes I've seen many times before. Take it or leave it, just my opinion.
Prodigal Son (2019)
Netflix, Pick it Up! There's more story to tell...
Just read on google about Fox Networks poor decision. Too bad. Only show I like on Fox. Netflix, do what you did with Lucifer (the other show I liked on Fox. TBH, it got better when it went to Netflix. Please please please consider this.
Scream (2015)
Seasons 1 & 2
Really miss the cast & story of the first two seasons. There was so much more story to tell & a lot of unanswered questions. Who killed Kieren? Emma's Dad or Brandon James' brother? What other murders will Noah & Stavros write about? What does the future hold for everyone? I guess the 3rd season is a reboot.
Summer of 84 (2018)
Lead kid frustrating
Intriguing movie, but found lead kid frustrating. May be right, but his intentions are murky. Love when Mackie calls him out later. Scary as hell, but rings true.
Hysteria (2011)
Questionable...
Doctors bringing patients to orgasm in their offices...if that happened now it would be considered in a negative light. Maybe I'm overreacting but it's on the fence tipping towards offensive.
A Fall from Grace (2020)
Help no more
Watched a little over 15 minutes and can't continue. Enough said.
Horrible Bosses (2011)
Double Standard
Why is a Ramey female dentist considered funny? If it had been a male no humor would have been found. Made me cringe. Poor taste.
Nancy Drew (2019)
Something Wrong
The story arc is good but for me the problem is likability when it comes to the main character. Something wrong when the supporting characters are more dimensional and likable. Difficult to watch...
American Horror Story: Final Girl (2019)
Really Enjoyed this Season A Lot! But I Have a Question?
For a lot of the same reasons as other reviewers, O enjoyed this season and the final episode. Loved all the new actors mixed with regulars. Made me focus on the story which I was drawn into. However the one blaring problem is the Richard Ramirez situation. I wholeheartedly agree it is more than a bit confusing. If he wasn't able to leave Camp Redwood for 30 years, as of 2019, then how did he die of cancer in prison in 2013 and attend the Devils Night shindig at The Hotel Cortez every year after that? It's a head scratcher. Makes me start thinking parallel Universes. Also. What is up with Brooke looking like she never aged? Deal with Satan? Lots of questions but that's a good thing; means this season got me thinking. All in all happy with it, just wish it was longer.
His Dark Materials (2019)
Never Read the Books Nor Have I Seen the Movie & I'm Intrigued
I for one am glad I am coming into watching this without having read the books or seen the movie. Some reviewers say there are gaps and unanswered questions in this 1st episode. Now why SHOULD all the gaps and questions be filled/answered in the FIRST episode? That's just silly. It's an episodic show, not a movie. I like that this show makes me wonder/question. It makes me want to watch next Sunday's episode and those thereafter to see where the story goes and how the characters develop. I really don't need naysayers at such an early stage saying it's not adding up to the books. Give it time to breathe & grow.
Evil (2019)
Kids getting on my nerves
These kids are so annoying . Can't understand a thing they say, winey & cutesy to the point of annoying. Have to bare with their scenes.
Light as a Feather (2018)
Odd
Good premise but I found myself sympathizing with the "villain" Violet rather than the four "mean girl " friends.
Criminal Minds: A Good Husband (2017)
Meh...
The acting of the guest stars was on par with a bad movie of the week or a D straight to video movie. Was this the first time these actors ever acted? The regular cast was good.
Into the Dark: Treehouse (2019)
Jimmi Simpson's Performance
I'll keep this short. Jimmi Simpson's performance made me give this a higher score. That's all.
Captain Marvel (2019)
So Weird
Scrolling through reviews...a lot of 1's...was there a campaign to give it so many 1's? Don't see the negative points at all. It's just different. Like it so far.
Lucifer: Everything's Okay (2019)
Inspired Me to Binge Watch the Whole Series
So glad this moved To Netflix! What was already great is even better. Watched all of Season 4. Liked it so much I binged Seasons 1-3 and am now watching Season 4 a second time. Love how much more racy and fleshed our the characters are. Now back to Season four...again. Woo Hoo! I hope there are more seasons in the future.
Deadly Class (2018)
I like it
Uh...it's on the SyFy channel and it's based on a comic book and it's fiction...so why are people complaining it's not realistic? It deserves a chance I think. I like the premise, especially a student who HAS a moral compass amid a student body of sociopaths...interesting to see where that will lead...
Six Feet Under: I'll Take You (2002)
Good Riddance to Brenda
She's always rubbed me the wrong way so good to see her gone. Hateful, selfish & self involved are hard to take.
Six Feet Under (2001)
Love the show otherwise...
Every character great but find myself fast forwarding through Claire scenes. It's not necessarily the performer but the character that is unbearable. Love the show otherwise.
Supernatural: Bad Boys (2013)
Emotional!
Really moving in conveying what Dean, the heart of Supernatural, has sacrificed for his relationship to Sam. Moved me to tears.
Arrow: Elseworlds, Part 2 (2018)
Gotham! Batman!
Liking this crossover so far. Love it when characters from other shows come in. Highlight of every season.
Christmas Wedding Planner (2017)
Too Hard to Watch
Tried to give it a chance, but gave up after 27 minutes. Unfortunately the lead not a very strong actress which made it hard to be drawn into the story. Too much surface & mugging. Too bad, cuz I like a good cheesy Netflix Christmas movie.
Halloween (2018)
Great Continuation of the First Movie
To me, what separates this from the pack of other Halloween sequels is the likability of all the characters who fall victim to Michael. Especially the couple (they're actually really sweet and funny) babysitting. I actually heard someone in the movie theatre go "aw", with a bittersweet sound to their voice. I won't go into more detail cuz I don't want to spoil it. I, too, actually felt bad when he killed the people...the veil of horror movie anesthesia dropped away and my empathy kicked in. I personally find that refreshing. It's kind of scary when one stops being scared by that level of violence. So, thanks to the film-makers and actors for not having the typical silly over-sexed and dim characters but actual human beings.
