The Uptown Comedy Club (1992–1994)
Bigger Better Things
1 March 2004
Flex Alexander,Lisa Nicole Carson,Tracy Morgan and Yvette Wilson have had fine careers. Jim Breuer,Debra Wilson,Paula Jai Parker and Joe Torry have had decent careers. Monteria Ivey passed away.

The "Yo Mama" contest was called "The Dozens" an insult filled street game played primarily in the African American community.

Gideon's Crossing (2000–2001)
I Completely Disagree
25 January 2004
Gideon's Crossing was a fine show. It got an Emmy Nomination after it was axed. I liked the ensemble cast that had a young black Doctor as the Chief Surgeon and Indian,Jewish,Female and Gentile Whites all interacting as colleagues and friends as the other Doctors.

It was better than ER to me because of that ethnic mix. Per the reviewer, what made the woman not seem like she could be from Long Island, because you are? Are there not various ethnic people on L.I.? The subject matter and story lines were good.

It's biggest problem was that it came on at 10pm eastern on Monday nights, replacing Monday Night Football. ABC's ratings drop in the offseason and viewers go elsewhere. Had it come on at 9pm on Tuesday, things might have been different.

Also why does the reviewer seem to like Andre Braugher's projects when he's a "sidekick" or supporting actor on Hack or Homicide, but trashes the show that he's the dramatic lead in?

Underdog (1964–1973)
Underdog Sub Cartoons
18 January 2004
"There were a number of other cartoons that ran along with Underdog, including one about 2 American soldiers in the old west tangling with two Native Americans (who would probably be seen as racially offensive today). I can't recall the others."

That cartoon was called "Go Go Gophers".

Platinum (2003)
Cancelled Too Soon
8 January 2004
I liked this show. I'm in the music industry and it was a semi realistic portrayal of it. It was basically a Hip Hop soap opera or "Hip Hopra". It was not given enough time to materialize and I was surprised that UPN cancelled it. Especially since it produced Eve and Rock Me Baby, both HORRIBLE shows and lets not forget The Mullets.

Platinum had the hot Erick Sermon track "Just Like Music" with those hot Marvin Gay samples as it's theme song.

The Apollo Comedy Hour (1992–1995)
An underatted show
8 January 2004
I liked this show. It appeared during the black comedy explosion of the early 1990's. Actresses like Lisa Nicole Carson and Paula Jai Parker were cast members.

My favorite comics were Kool Bubba Ice,with his tremendously silly hats, and Derrick Fox with his Chante character.

This show was part Saturday Night Live, part In Living Color, and part Def Comedy Jam. It was a spinoff of "Showtime At The Apollo" and came on after that program. It's late start was it's downfall. I think it would've lasted longer if it preceeded Showtime.

Jackson 5ive (1971–1973)
Great Cartoon
20 December 2003
First there was the Beatles cartoon. I couldn't wait to hear the songs on the show. When the J-5ive came out I went WILD. Not long after,The Osmond Brothers had a competing show and we used to debate who was better,Michael or Donny Osmond. Some of the stories were hokie, but enjoyable. There was an episode showing how Diana Ross discovered the J-5. That is purely Motown myth. Ross never discovered the Jackson 5,she only introduced them on their public unveiling.
