Kon-Tiki (2012)
Mainly Poor Action!
Despite this movie depicting Thor Heyerdahl's theorem on how South Americans may have been able to cross the Pacific on a balsa wood raft followed by Heyerdahl and his crew actually conducting the trip, this movie is not set to be a documentary but rather a drama, action, adventure movie. Movie contains great photos, are at times visually wonderful and we witness how the theorem is set into place, the money funding issues and the life on the raft. The act is somewhat theatrically at times. The clipping may suggest several potential turning points or endings by the director even though this cannot be said for sure, however, some of the events are very over-dramatic and midways several events takes place in which the solution to those problems are never really revealed. Movie does not contain enough material to fill the whole length of the movie and hence the extra drama, also containing non-logical events makes parts of the movie boring at best, if not annoying. A movie with nice photos and good momentum at times!
Hodejegerne (2011)
Static dialogic acting
Visually very good movie with well combined clipping and choice of music, a movie about an art thief with twists in the story, this movie has very good dynamics at times. The main character dramatic play is at times extremely good! Unfortunately, this is yet again a Norwegian movie where the dialogic acting is way to static and pretentious, this is especially true for the main character who also at certain times acts weirdly mad. Choosing of the main characters name may also have been different. The quality of the twists varies and as the movie progresses the solution to problems in the manuscript are poorly solved. The police depiction goes from natural to almost cartoonlike, which does not fit well to the at times high dramatic happenings.
Pax (2011)
Extremely theatrically and pretentiously.
The Norwegian play is extremely theatrically and pretentiously, in a poor way. Some glimpses of really good play is spotted here and there but a real quality difference are seen from the Swedish actors, holding a much higher quality. It takes a while before the real themes of the movie, realization and conciliation of the characters flaws and misdoings is addressed and even though the movie is only 75min long, slow rhythm is present, in the sense of slow logic movement of the happenings. The use of background music only is chosen in some of the scenes, unfortunately this only add's up to the pretentiousness of the movie as a whole.
