Azumi 2: Death or Love (2005)

Slightly more believable and emotional than Azumi 1

I didn't bother commenting on Azumi 1 since there's w really not much to say. It's a very good modern ninja movie. And it's good to see a female hero for once, though I'm sure it has existed before in Asian movies (Lady bloodsnow or something right ?) Anyways, i liked Azumi 1 and rated it a seven (7). But i liked this one slightly more. I feel you get to understand the character better as well as there's now need for the long introduction which was at the beginning of Azumi 1.

The story is pretty much the same, but the fighting sequences are more believable and interesting.

That's all i have to say, really, slightly better is my final words.

Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (2003)

Simple story but VERY good fighting

I don't have much to say. Only that the story is recognizable and simple. A simple revenge drama about one lone fighter doing what he can to save his village.

But the fighting is one of the best in modern movies. It's fast paced and well coordinated. It really looks like real fighting, only, obviously one cant take that much damage in real life (though I'm sure nobody actually thinks so).

This movie is a must see for all martial-art fans out there, and i would also like to recommend "Tom yum goong" aka "The protector" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427954/ ) which feature the same actor and the same kind of fighting (i believe muai-thai ).

When the Raven Flies (1984)

A true viking movie

I don't know if you've ever seen a movie about vikings, but as far as i know they are few. Of those I've seen this and it's predecessor are the only "true" viking movies.

This movie has pretty bad image and sound quality which is understandable since its old. But it wins my heart for it's story, it follows a kind of norm in viking tales, basically an eye for an eye.

I am no expert in vikings or history but i have read a lot about them and many sagas (if not all) from the "Edda", anyways i liked this movie because it feels natural and real.

Some warnings though:

1. It may not be so interesting for you if you're not interested in vikings.

2. They speak Icelandic and the one i saw had Swedish subtitles only, so beware, you may not understand a word.

This movie has pretty bad image and sound quality which is understandable since its old. But it wins my heart for it's story, it follows a kind of norm in viking tales, basically an eye for an eye. This movie is a follow-up on the story told in "Korpen flyger" so that one should be watched first in my opinion.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

America, oh you are so great

This comment contains spoilers ! And a lot of nagging =)

I have not seen the original but i looked forward to this movie since i like sci-fi. And it started of fair enough, all the worlds (meaning USA) masterminds are summoned because something is traveling at high speed towards earth. They are basically told that the earth is about to be destroyed within 76minutes.

Why these masterminds needed to hear this, or why the military is preparing for an assault of mass proportion (when they think its a meteorite) is never explained.

So far, the mood of the movie is good with only a few question marks. And it doesn't get much more complicated either. The basic story of the movie is still good and interesting. But everything seems to be a big commercial about how great USA is instead of the vulnerabilities of the human kind.

It turns out that the thing which were about to collide with earth landed instead. Obviously in central Manhattan USA. No other objects were found by whatever system that detected this one, yet they say that these kind of gigantic orbs have landed all over earth (but who cares).

Anyways, they capture an alien who knows the English language and everything about humankind because they have taken control over American satellites.

The captured alien wants to meet with all of earth leaders but his wishes are denied by the vice president or some other extension of the president of USA. He will only need to speak to the president of USA (off course !).

Furthermore the DNA collected from the alien will not be analyzed for decades, since it's now property of the USA.

This movie is full of this sort of commercials/propaganda and it does nothing for the story. Also, there is product placement for at least McDonalds, Honday (the car), LG (phone service), Microsoft Windows, and probably many more.

What we learn from movies from Hollywood is the following:

* If a disaster is threatening to the humankind the epicenter will be in America for some reason.

* If the disaster is some kind of attack it will be towards America cause that's were it would hurt mankind the most off-course.

* Where ever and/or whatever the disaster is, it will be solved by America(ns).

I am no "USA-hater", people may think that America is the greatest nation of earth, maybe it's so. I don't know, it's possible. I just don't like it when movies aim towards this. Its almost as if there's kind of board in the movie industry which have to acknowledge the movies and check so that there's enough USA-love in it.

Anyway all the above comments are annoying features of the film, but it's still rather enjoyable to watch. I saw it on its premier and i don't think it's worth paying for, i give it a four (4) out of ten (10) Klatuu was believable and graphics OK, that's all. I'd would have liked to know more about the origin of the aliens "community of nations" and in what way humankind was destroying itself (climate, religion or war ??).

Postal (2007)

well... bad

I probably shouldn't rate this movie. Because frankly i couldn't find strength enough to see it through. But as far as i got it was just boring. The acting was bad, the dialog's in particular. And I did not find the unnecessary violence that one might expect from the game fun in any way.

Perhaps people with some knowledge in American politics can find something in the movie to enjoy. As for me i am more interested in the connection to the game. The game didn't have a really good story... But this movie did not even follow that. I am not gonna blame the staff however, i think postal was an entertaining yet bad game. And probably a bad choice to make a movie out of.

So, i didn't see it all the way... I've got better things to do... Like writing here for example =) But I cant recommend this movie to anyone.

Wanted (2008)

Unrealistic to the extreme (in a bad way)

I hope that this movie was not supposed to be smart in a Matrix kind of way. I'm pretty certain that it was intended to be more of a comedy then a action. But for me this movie was way to exaggerated. It was simply to many unbelievable and unrealistic events for me.

If you can relax with that, and enjoy the movie for it's action then ignore this comment.

I don't like to be negative and comment on films just because i don't like them. It's more fun to give a movie credit or at least good constructive criticism, but this was one of the worst modern "blockbusters" i have ever seen.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006)

For the Tenaciouse D fans

I would normally think of these kind of films as childish and "corny" i believe is a correct word. But if you really like the band as i do the movie is lovely. They seem like a down to earth kind of band and they are truly masters at their art (music), but its not really a very good movie to be honest.

As it's explained in the bonus features the movie is meant both for new audience and for those who have seen the short HBO series. Som elements of the series such as the bar where they first played is in this movie as well but i think that the connection is a little loose, when does this movie actually take place? I guess what i am trying to say is that this movie is directed more towards the Tenaciouse D fans.

But i loved it, and i recommend it to anyone who likes music in general and Tenacious D in specific.

Spermaharen (2002 Video)

No read the book instead

If you have read the site on the Webb or the later released pocket then you'll be disappointed when watching this movie. The title is really the only thing they have in common. The class of the jokes are much worse then it uses to be.

This set of brilliant actors can do better! We have seen it in "NileCity 105,6" among others.

If you haven't read the site or the book then you might get the impression that these fellows has lost it but i don't thinks so, read the book it's filled with high-class humor.

I still have faith for these guys, this was just a small setback.

And you really don't have a lot of reason seeing it if you don't understand Swedish and/or Swedish culture... but thats just my opinion.

And plz excuse my English (im from Sweden) i just write in English cuz thats the rules =)
