Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Amazing Film
I haven't been following the Marvel films, but I'm a big fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and Sam Raimi, so off I went to my favorite Las Vegas theater to check this film out. Even though I didn't know the Doctor Strange backstory, it was worth every penny. The CGI is the best I've ever seen, Danny Elfman's score is perfect, the entire cast is outstanding, and there are lots of cameos to enjoy (Bruce Campbell). Sam Raimi has always been one of my favorite directors and he really excels in this one.
I think this film really raises the bar for future superhero movies. Yes, it is that good!
Sharkenstein (2016)
Oh, it's bad.
Oh, it's bad. Almost BIRDEMIC bad. Horrible acting, cheesy CGI, and a storyline full of holes. The only redeeming qualities are that is unintentionally funny at times and it is mercifully short.
Uncle Peckerhead (2020)
Gory Fun
Cool concept, good cast, excellent music, good gore but not excessive if you're a horror freak. I really enjoyed this movie very much. Some genuinely hilarious moments and the guy playing the title character really nails it, making a killer monster sympathetic and very likable.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Superior superhero flick
I totally disagree with all of the negative reviews here. This is not your typical superhero movie. I know that many people would prefer more action, fighting, things blowing up, etc. But there are plenty of other films where you can get all of that stuff. This film has a message and it has heart. The special effects are outstanding, the opening is brilliant, the story is outstanding and intelligent, and the musical score is absolutely sumptuous.
Obviously, I liked it and I usually don't really enjoy most superhero movies because I find them to be adolescent, juvenile, and prioritize action above character development and story. I think that this movie will be getting more well-liked as time goes on and more people enjoy it.
The Girl in the Photographs (2015)
Not your typical slice and dice
Violence isn't predictable and in the real world it is chaotic and random. The good people don't always win. The virgin isn't always the "final girl." This movie demonstrates that convincingly.
The acting is very good, especially Kal Penn's depiction of a spoiled, self-obsessed LA hipster photographer. Direction is adequate. The music is excellent. This film leaves you a little confused and disoriented. Great to see something different in the slasher genre.
Hell Is Where the Home Is (2018)
Kill 'em all.
There is not one likable character in this film. I won't give anything away, but I spent the first half hoping that they would all get killed in various gory ways.
Humanity's End (2008)
Generic Han Solo
Ok, the CGI and special effects are cheezy, the story is a bit confusing, and some of the acting is wooden. But the cast seems to be having fun with this and the lead actor chews the scenery. The ship's computer gets some of the best lines and there are classic sci-fi and pop culture references galore.
Best line? Our generic Han Solo is making out with the "Breeder" girl and in a matter-of-fact voice she says "I'm ovulating." He passionately whispers in her ear, "Me too."
This movie is fun!
